Clean accommodation, at a good price.
Pub downstairs was a little rowdy until one in the morning.
Friendly locals bar. Clean, quiet and comfortable room
confort location staff
the amenable staff - willing to even have a midnight arrival! very nice breakfast, nice location.
The location of the hotel was good, only 7 miles from John O'Groats. Plenty of parking. Plenty of choice at breakfast Friendly staff
Had a shared bathroom, didn't see any mention of that on the booking site. Bed slats fell out 6 times during the night, I gave up putting them back in the end. Top of wardrobe covered in accumulation of dust. Mould on roof of bathroom. Hotel looks a bit dilapidated from the outside.
Price Fresh and clean rooms
Fantastic welcome to our final night after lands end to John O'groats charity cycle ride. could not ask for a more friendly stay.. they were fantastic..
Good old fashioned hotelling, lovely living room great for rainy days which there are plenty up there. Breakfast was lovely.
Bit dated and the outside wasn't appealing which nearly made us leave but we are glad we didn't as it turned out great!
Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. No problems with parking. Good location for both Wick and John O'Groats.
Noise from bar until after midnight.
Keiss is beautiful,breakfast was great
Paid £60 for a very tired room went down to the pub for a couple of drinks with a few very enebriated locals, was like the pub in American werewolf in London
Bedroom was clean, modern and cosy. Children had proper beds not a pull out one, Good choice for breakfast.
The welcome was quite cold and it was almost like it was a chore for them you being there. After a 400 mile drive, even a smile would have been welcoming.
Friendly staff. Good breakfast selection. Easy parking.
Room a little cramped but that may not bother guests when they are out all day.
Down to earth both owners and staff.
A bit further out than I thought but my fault for not checking a good map.
The staff and the food where excellent.
Did not get any sleep because of the noise in the bar until the early hours of the morning.
The breakfasts got better as the week went on. Parking was always available
Not sure if it's worth the £60 pn. Breakfast time, initially 8am, got it down to 7.30, which seemed to putting them out Evening meals stop at 20:00 a little early compared to everywhere else I've stayed especially if you're not finishing work until 19:30. A lot of noise traveled from the bar downstairs well after midnight, TV signal iffy.
Staff were friendly. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Food was really good. Location was good for us because we were touring Scotland and wanted to be close to John O;Groats that day.
If we were staying more than one night would probably have preferred to stay in nearby Wick where there would be more going on. From the outside it didn't look very welcoming but once inside it was clean, comfortable, with friendly staff and good food and drink.
good room good food easy to find
Staff were friendly Room was big and clean Food was very good
Pub was tatty and needs updating Some locals enjoyed using very colourful language , others were abit more friendly
A nice welcome. Good rooms with good facilities. Very tasty food, freshly caught baked cod. Had a real ale. Allowed us to put bikes in secure place. Breakfast was good. Great value for money.Owners both very pleasant people.
good people good food good beds as it should
nothing (some frayed carpets, but just right for the ambience)
Attention to detail in the provision of towels, flannels, accessories and hair dryers. Far more than one would expect in a hotel at this price. Excellent & wide menu choice for the hot breakfast. Handy lounge bar in hotel
Rooms & furniture were clean and comfortable, but the building is old and the windows need repainting.
Location good in relation to John O' Groats Helpful & Friendly Staff Comfortable Room Good Breakfast
Location for a traveler going via Gill's Bay to St. Margaret's hope by ferry with a car. It is 20 minutes away in morning "traffic" and is a good price. Evidently this ferry is also a good price. Food was fine and the staff were very friendly.
It is isolated. However, we just needed a place to stay that was affordable and near enough to the ferry. Also we asked for the room NOT over the bar, which was a great idea. (the man with a room over the bar said it was noisy til 4 a.m. it seemed.) The quieter room only has a bath, not a functional shower. Minor point; we were only staying one night.
We were scheduled for a day trip to Orkney Islands and used this Hotel as a home base. Well located for that purpose with very friendly staff.
staff and food very nice
