We had a warm welcome and the 2 rooms we had were spotlessly clean with great views. The owners stored our bikes securely under cover and we had a nicely cooked meal in the evening. Unfortunately they were very busy in the bar, so the ordering of our evening meal took quite some time, but once they knew what we wanted to eat, it was produced quickly. The Landlord did give us some complimentary drinks to apologise and celebrate the completion of our cycle challenge from Lands End! The hotel looked shabby from the outside but was very clean and friendly inside.

Sorry but I didn't like anything about this hotel. It smelled really bad. Freezing and we stayed in summer. Single glazing upstairs. Very dated decor and furniture. Door lock difficult to operate. Shower difficult to switch off. Noisy bar downstairs. Hugely overpriced. Staff unfriendly. Will never ever stay again and will never ever reccommend. Wouldn't even stay if you paid me.

In simple words, it's home away from home. Even after me checking in after the restaurent closure time, they took order and prepared food for me. Extremely friendly staff. Outstanding location ! the two windows in my room had sea views! Food is fantastic ! Lovely, lovely place to stay. There is nothing there which can be disliked by anyone ! Just like home, there are a very few, very minor things like, shaving mirror bulb not working, temperature control on electric room heating not working very well etc; which hardly matter to me but if the owners attend to those kind of stuff they may be able to make 100% of their guests happy.

The bed linen, towles were clean and fresh. The location was too far outside of Wick approximately 6miles, to be classed as a Wick based hotel. The room did have it's own bathroom across the hall and it could be locked, but again it could have done with a make over and apart from towels and toilet rolls nothing else was provided.. The T.V. didn't work, the food was average (don't request the juciy steak pie, more like a limpet mine and nearly as indestructable aswell), and the most annoying this was the noise from the bar if you happen to be unlucky and be given room no. 7. The noise went on until 3.00am and when it was mention to the staff on checking out they did apologise but still charged the full price. And it could do with a serious make over, letters were missing from the outside sign.

The staff are very friendly. The 'family room' consists of 2 bedrooms, one of which has a bathroom, so there is plenty of space. The village beach is beautiful. The food was good.

I wanted to stay somewhere near John O Groats that had a bar, potential for evening meal and parking. This ticked all those boxes very well. It was a cozy locals bar, with separated out sections for guests if you wanted to some quiet time. The staff (presumably the owners) were very kind and welcoming. Free high speed wifi was a welcome bonus. The beer was execellent. Nothing as such, except there is nothing there apart from the hotel. Fine for me, but if you wanted some kind of options for dining you'd probably have to drive down to Wick.
