The attentiveness of the staff at all times and the food

We had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were excellent. Breakfast was excellent. Only had B & B so didn't go in the a la carte restaurant - felt it was expensive. The pool was fantastic and despite it's large size could get crowded and probably not enough sun beds to relax on. Our room was at the back, which as we weren't in it much was not a problem and for the money felt it was ok. Decor was very nice, bed comfy. Location was fab and a stunning looking old Victorian building. Although the beach at Newcastle is not good! You need to walk some way to find the sand.

Ate in the other restaurant on site but didn't think much of the food or ambience - bit of a bar, bit of a restaurant, bit of a pub!- didn't quiet know what it wanted to be! Had a coffee in the Lighthouse Lounge one evening after dinner but it was understaffed and had to wait ages for service, then the milk was off! Shower room was badly finished off. No way of keeping fresh milk cool so my jug I had for breakfast was off by the morning!

Lack of security at front door in middle of the night

The Spa facilities are excellent. The staff were friendly and courteous

I stayed at the Sleive Donard in early June. The heat in the room was unbearable at night. The room temperature reached 29 degrees making sleep impossible. Staff dealt with my complaint effectively the following morning.

I liked the friendliness of the staff and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The pool area was absolutely breathtaking with full views over the beach and the Mourne Mountains

Bueatiful hotel,we were suprised by the high standard of the room.Excellent friendly staff,Excellent food and bueatiful surroundings,,,Room service was polite and quick..We will stay at the Slieve Donard again,,,,Booked on line and got an excellent rate...

Rooms were very hot,it needed air conditioning or fans,,,,,,,We stayed in June & it was very hot weather,,,,,,,,,,

Good food, comfortable and good facilities enjoyed spa

Room cleaniness good but common area toilets and dinning room window cills radiators etc cleanliness not so good.

The setting and the facilities , above all the Staff were outstanding.

Location

Nearly everything, especially the location, but see below for the downside.

The maintenance left a little to be desired - loose hooks, loose tap, wobbly loo seat etc. On the second morning there were 2 large piles of used linen on the restaurant floor. While they weren't offensively dirty, we thought the mere idea of leaving them there was not acceptable.
