The hospitality, cleanliness, the welcome cup of tea and sherry, the standard of food in the restaurant, the quality and service of breakfast Although the bathroom was very clean, the fittings were out of date, but not out of line with many British B and B's

On arrival we received a very warm welcome from Robert with a sherry, cake and tea in the cosy garden room. Our room was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Dinner was superb as was breakfast. Once you have stayed here you will always want to return.

Wonderfull breakfast with fresh fruit, croissant, the best black pudding/ nice room, good food in the evening It's a pity that if you book with booking.com, the half-board formula is not an option, even on request.

Decor and comfort excellent! Lovely fluffy towels and facecloths. Plenty of lovely soap, body lotion etc. Food absolutely delightful - an experience!!!! Very welcome, friendly hosts. Husband found sink in shower room too small.

We were very well taken care of in a warm and inviting B&B. The restaurant was top rate. Nothing at all.

This is an outstanding Guest House and restaurant for the money; practically I think they could charge more and people would still come. Robert and Glen work incredibly hard on every little detail. It feels very cosy and homely and Robert's service is impeccable: attentive without being intrusive and he included great suggestions for activities. Robert put in a lot of effort to communicate with my mother-in-law who stayed with us who does not speak english which we greatly appreciated. Lastly, perhaps the biggest strength is the high quality of the restaurant which for the money was excellent. We will definitely be going back and recommending others.

We didn't get the chance to sample the restaurant but Smiddy House was comfortable and had a friendly feel to it. Located at a major junction, this was an ideal "jump-off" point to tour in almost any given direction. Also, there were plenty of local facilities (shop, cash point, pub and chip-shop) so we didn't have to drive anywhere for basic amenities. Our host was excellent and offered lots of helpful advice about the area; places to visit and eat out etc. We probably had the best en suite, double room available which, although perhaps on the small side (which we didn't mind), was immaculate and had everything you would want for a short stay (for instance there were more clean towels than several other B&Bs put together)! All-in-all very good value and we would definitely consider going back as our stay there was so enjoyable.

From the second we arrived we felt looked after. The host understands the details of what makes a stay special. The rooms are comfortable and the food is some of the best we have tasted. Best hotel/bed and breakfast we have stayed in. loved it all (maybe reduce the amount of ornaments as they take up all the surfaces)

A special treat for my birthday! I was not disappointed. We stayed in a twin room, which was very comfortable with fluffy towels and quality toiletries in the en suite shower room. The meal in Russell's Restaurant was fantastic. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. I can highly recommend the scallops and the venison. There is a cosy lounge where you can enjoy a pre-dinner tincture, meet other guests and take your coffee and liqueurs after dining. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg for breakfast - wonderful! Robert, one of the proprietors, was most welcoming. We will definately return.

Robert was brilliant - attention to detail made you feel like you were the only people who had stayed there. You were definitely not seen as just another punter. Rooms, albeit a wee bit small were great - clean and everything you would need. The food was exceptional. I've seen people say its expensive, but the quality is incredible and well worth the higher price than bog standard pub grub. If you want the equivalent of a Michelin star meal then you've come to the right place. Will definitely be back - and not just because we're passing through.....

Everything was fabulous! The tri-partite dessert with poached pear and chocolate was so good. The home made bread with the evening meal and freshly baked croissants at breakfast had my mouth watering! The rooms had everything one would ever need and more. Liked everything. Pity it seems to be booked for the week in august we were looking for!

The food was excellent, in choice, flavour and presentation. We didn't want our meals to end, however it was a little pricey. The hotel was friendly and welcoming. It was beautifully furnished and everywhere was finished to a high standard. Our room was a bit small and we struggled to accommodate all our luggage. The shower was electric and not very powerful.
