Location off the motorway Not my type of hotel. 6 years old and looking tired and dated. Designer shabby without the chic. More like an expensive travel lodge not "a luxury boutique award winning hotel" An expensive stop over, should have carried on our journey.

The staff are friendly, good food. No soap etc in the bathroom. Hairgrip on the side of the bath. Water left in the kettle. No spoons in the saucers at breakfast time. Being referred to as "you guys" by the male waiter as we entered the dining room. At dinner there was a grease spot as if spilt butter on the table and also butter/grease inside the napkin ring.

Food was superb! Hotel was very clean and staff extremely friendly and helpful =) Air con wasn't working and kept half the hotel up for two evenings due to the noise it was making. Not exactly a quiet break! However hotel manager did discount the stay of one of the nights to compensate for this. =)

Make Up Girl Pet Spider, Cobwebs in room, 10 years of dust behind tv, room wasn't made up next day till gone 4 pm leaving us with no tea or milk, or fresh towels. tiles in bathroom need regrouting (mould present). Noisy as hell due to busy mainroad next to room. Food overpriced for what it actually was. £6+ for a pint of lager. No different to a Premier Inn in many respects. Inadquate shower gel (1 small tub) provided for 2 guests per 2 days. and no soap so you had to use this shower gel sparingly when washing your hands too. Paid £220 upfront on arrival for both nights and on checking out, they insisted i had only paid for 1 night and owed them £80 for second night....luckily i found the receipt in the depths of my luggage.

I attended a wedding..the main course received the most complaints amongst the guests, though starter and sweet were excellent. It was the only thing which really marred the day in any way..I Personally could not fault any other aspect. However , my grandchildren ,who stayed in a family room with their other gran, preferred not to sleep in their bunk beds because of stained sheets...

The staff at Reception were very helpful, our room was large and well appointed and we had an excellent evening meal. The room was good value for money a the reduced rate we paid. Our first room smelt of cigarette smoke (we were quickly moved without a problem). Our room was not serviced until 4.00pm on the second day and then it was not serviced thoroughly as we had come back to change (we had been out from 9.30am until 3.45pm). The tea and milk were not replenished (again, quickly sorted by Reception). The newspaper ordered arrived on Day 1 but not on Day 2. We couldn't get the broadband to work (this may have been our laptop: again, Reception were helpful). Breakfast was ok but some of the food had been kept warm for a long time so was not at its best.

Can't say that I particularly liked anything - there was nothing special about it - at the price! My room suffered noise from motorway traffic which disturbed my sleep. Had I been a traveller stopping en route unexpectedly in the evening I would not have been pleased just to find a minute piece of soap and shampoo - nothing extra, i.e. no "temporary" toothpaste/brush, conditioner, or comb. I would have though at this price these minor "necessities" would have been provided. Double room - admitted single occupancy - but just "one" biscuit provided on both days ... !!

Lovely setting for a wedding, Nice modern hotel. Only double beds in the room. They advertise free internet but it did not work in the bar area and you needed a connection wire to use the internet in the bedroom. I asked reception if I could loan a lead however they did not have any to spare, not good enough for this class of hotel. They did not seem bothered when I said that I could have no connection to the internet downstairs either and said that this is often the case. There was no clock in the bedroom, and I feel that an hotel of this star rating should have complimentary water and a mini bar in the room.

Size of room, and very nice dinner on the evening of our stay. Breakfast was a big letdown, especially after such a nice dinner. coffee was stewed and nearly undrinkable, scranbled eggs were dry, and to our surprise they had no butter in the hotel! There was some flora for the toast which had turned into oil. The person on duty was anything but helpful. Took the edge of our experience.

Leaving after 1st night. The only pleasant experience was the Polish girl who served us at breakfast. She was extremely nice and could not do enough for us. Wrong information about room. Take it or leave it attitude. Your only paying 50 pounds per night comment by duty manager. Dirty room, Tired Mattress. Lighting in room. Breakfast not nice. Owners not particularly interested. Offered a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner but as we were not having dinner this was withdrawn. Tough luck. Will not be back. Certainly not four star

We liked the location as we were getting married in Gretna Green. The rooms were a good size and great beds. There are no facilities in the room such as mini bar etc water etc. We had a meal and the staff got the numbers wrong and the food was expensive and average quality. The staff were also impatient and service was not good.

I liked the location because we were getting married at the blacksmith's shop. I thought the rooms were a bit run down looking. For the price and the way the lobby/restaurant/bar looks you'd expect more from the room.

The location, the rooms were very large and the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was very good. Initially the hotel was a disappointment as they stated that Booking.com did not pass on the information that we required a twin room, fortunately I had printed my booking form therefore could show them I had booked a twin room. Instead of getting into the room for 15:00hrs it was 16:10hrs and then it was still a double. Eventually they sorted the beds out and we had an enjoyable stay.

Very spacious room and great value for money (£60 B&B for a double room, single occupancy). The staff in the restaurant were polite enough but it seemed as though they were just going through the motions.

We came up for a family wedding at Gretna Green, with the reception being held in the Smiths Hotel, so it was very convenient having rooms at this hotel which were spacious and well appointed. The hotel spa facilities were excellent and the fact that you could get your hair, nails, make up etc all done there before the great event, took all the pressure off and made for a relaxing run up to the wedding. The housekeeping team didn't come to clean the room until 3pm which was inconvenient as we were getting ready for a wedding at 4.30pm. The lady did however leave us clean towels and more coffee/milk
