The staff are very helpful and it was ideal for what I needed for my work, a clean comfortable bed plus clean shower and bathroom. There are plenty of local food outlets for a late meal plus Peterlee I’d just a few minutes away

Since staying a month previous, the 'snags' experienced previously had been fixed. There was one issue, which one of the guests noticed in that the shower was not draining away freely. Staff were very friendly and helpful/interested in the well-being of the guests.

We had booked a budget room so were not expecting any frills but everything was as expected and our requests were quickly met. What was so lovely though were the staff, they made us very welcome and were very helpful. The location was why we chose this town, with bus stops immediately outside it was ideal for Durham and Newcastle.

Sacred English Heritage
Durham could definitely be one of those towns that appear in fairy tales and stories of kings and knights. Lying on a hilled peninsula formed by the Wear River, the striking cathedral overlooks from the hilltop, surrounded by the castle, palaces and historic buildings. Get transported back in time by the magic of this English jewel, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Though archaeological evidence suggests the area has been inhabited since 2000 BC, the present-day settlement was founded by monks from Lindisfarne in 995, choosing the area as the final resting place of Saint Cuthbert. Symeon of Durham stated once that ‘to see Durham is to see the English Zion, and by doing so one may save oneself a trip to Jerusalem’. Hotels and B&Bs in Durham’s historic centre are a popular choice to enjoy this historic legacy.
Its powerful religious position granted such great honour to the city, that the bishop still holds the rights to a seat in the House of Lords, and to accompany the sovereign at the coronation. During the 19th century and encompassing the industrial revolution, the university was founded, with Durham Castle becoming its first college.
Whether you’re searching for a cottage, a modern hotel, or a cheap hostel, Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation in the area.

A lot of pubs where the students go were scruffy and uninviting ( ripped furniture etc). Loved the areas around the cathedral, castle, town square and the river. Tour of castle was limited to 4 areas due to students living in the castle which we were not informed about when we purchased tickets. Thought it was a total waste of time going.
Some nice places to eat such as the Spice Lounge just off the square,Turkish kitchen near the cathedral and the Boat Club near the river.

I loved Durham. I did a tour of the Cathedral and Castle. I felt very safe being on my own and people I did speak to were very chatty.
It was very peaceful walking along the river.
There did seem to be an awful lot of Church's,
I attended the Easter Service at the Cathedral, it was lovely. The choir had 30 children and 11 adults in it. The volunteers were very good.
I would like to come again soon.
I stayed at the Kingslodge Inn, and ate there and at an Indian Restaurant Alishan. The food was delicious.

Durham Cathedral is a must, of all the cathedrals i have visited this must rate as the highest. It was warm, packed with history and information. Great shop, cafe and clean toilets.
Durham guided tour of the Castle is also very good, just be aware to do either or both, its going up quite a steep climb.
You must take the time to visit the living museum at Beamish, although be prepared to allow two days or at least a day and a half. There is so much to see, and the interaction with the characters on the site is fantastic and so informative. Enjoy the vintage tram and bus rides and dont miss out on puffing Billy.
FInally make sure you see the Bowes Museum, it will probably take you 3-4 hours but its worth it.

Durham is a stunning university town with a traditional marketplace. The architecture is beautiful, there are a few museums and lots of good places to eat. No visit is complete without visiting the cathedral!
The property itself is a warm, wooden interior, very cosy feel, but then with all modern amenities provided. the look and feel of a much more expensive hotel. We were made very welcome—including our little dog—and the staff were efficient and friendly. Beds soooooo comfortable. For me, who doesn’t drive, being on the bus route was great, and the 10 mins ride into Durham was definitely worth the huge saving vs a city centre hotel. will definitely book again.
The hotel had the basic amenities. Everything was clean and well maintained.
Please note that I was here for longer than the average stay ( I was there for 14 or so days)
I cannot praise the staff highly enough. I had a couple of personal crises with family members and the staff helped me to navigate the situations very competently and professionally.
Aside from that, the staff were always receptive, helpful and attentive to any needs I had.
The hotel rooms within are up to the latest standard of a proper modern hotel. The heritage model of the building gives a beautiful lasting impression which makes me feel delighted. The hospitality of the receptionist and staffs is excellent. If I could give it ten stars, I will give it ten. Location wise, it is only 15 minutes walk to the Durham city centre.
Great value, food & drink were good prices, the atmosphere was great. Richie the manager was so welcoming & a big thank you to Claire who looked after us all weekend, nothing was too much trouble for her, really friendly, king room was great, close to Durham city centre. The singer on Saturday night was so good. Can't wait to go back.
Lovely quiet location, very comfortable, great staff and beautiful breakfast. Definitely a hidden gem and will now be our 'go to' place in Durham. Felt like we were really looked after and nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely relaxed stay.
Very nice little hotel. I was in Durham for my daughter's graduation and this hotel was a block away from her accommodations. Breakfast was fantastic, room was exactly as described, and staff was super friendly. Would definitely stay again.
great location close to city centre booked mainly because of free parking very nice hotel clean and tidt staff were excellent good dinner and breakfast menu much better than a lot of city centre hotals would recommend
A good-cooked breakfast was included with the booking, and the avocado toast was freshly made.
The room was clean and modern.
The hotel is in a historic building including stained glass windows.
A great location, able to walk into the city centre, however guests should be aware that this is not a hotel or B&B, it is just a bedroom inside a residential house within a housing estate.
Beautiful hotel in the centre of Durham. Room had a Durham university theme, very stylish with great attention to detail in the decor. Very comfortable room, had a great nights sleep.
We were virtually first in for breakfast and the range of foods was excellent, the room was spacious and beds were cosy, ideal location to walk in to the centre of Durham
A bit of a wander from Durham City centre's train station, but pleasant enough.
Good breakfast.
Great helpful and cheery staff and welcoming friendly public house.
Lovely attractive property on a stunning location with great views and gardens. Chapel is definitely worth a visit. Easily accessible from Durham city centre.
great location, close enough to the city but far enough away for peace and quiet. Great place just behind the hotel to walk the dog and a fantastic breakfast.
