The staff , Serena & Isie, they were helpful and friendly nothing was a problem. Room very spacious and bathroom good. The breakfast was very nice and the Kitchen for dinner was excellent
Only the stairs. The parking was on narrow streets.
Decoration, food & service
Nice staff Good breakfast Good bed
- Difficult to get a good parking spot - Food in restaurant was very poor and can not be recommended. - Third floor room had several inconvenient features - Overrated and not good value for the price
The rooms were individually decorated, larger than the normal hotel room (even the executive), breakfast was good, and the onsite bistro served reasonably priced and tasty food.
If you have any problems with stairs, you should request a ground floor room when booking, as there are no lifts to the upper floors, as the hotel is made up of converted Edwardian houses, which adds to the hotels charm.
The decor in room was really tasteful as was the dining room. The room was spacious, very clean and the bed was luxuriously big and comfortable. The breakfast was really good as was the evening meal we had. Although not in the centre of Portsmouth, it was easily accessed by bus and was a quiet place to stay.
The entrance painted black at the sides was drab and needed tiling. The room doors were not secure enough and because of its position the room was noisy when guests arrived and climbed upstairs. The plug did not fit the basin and water came up the shower waste when the full basin emptied. The bistro needed finishing as the dresser was empty and it needed a few pictures. It needed background music to warm the atmosphere and break the uncomfortable silence. The dining room did also.
Character/Individuality of hotel and comfort/cleanliness of rooms, with excellent facilities. Would certainly stay there again!

Slow service in restaurant
Rooms very nicely decorated and furnished. Nice staff.
Prices in restaurant far too high so we ate in a very nice pub very close to it.
The staff were fantastic. Really pleasant : they really went out of their way to help. The food was excellent. We ate a in the garden a couple of times which was very peaceful.
The hotel consists of several old houses, which means we had to walk outside for breakfast and reception isn't actually at the address shown. Not a problem in the summer but….
We arrived late off the ferry and it was a 10min drive, the staff were fabulous, the room.immaculate and breakfast the best I have ever had!!! Shame it was only for one night! Would definately return.
Location for Victorious Festival, rooms were nice with nice bathrooms, WiFi throughout. Booking staff (Ellie & Serena) very nice and professional.
Breakfast arrangements, have to go down the road for breakfast & you dont get served what other guests receive in a separate dining area although probably pay the same price.
Pleasant staff, Excellent food.
Hotel complex, set over various buildings.
The quality of the rooms and the service.
Because of our badly fitted door, we were kept awake all night. ( rattling and creaking with every breeze that blew through the house).
Breakfast was good but service was poor as the hotel is understaffed. Some staff also unfriendly. Parking was an issue.
Bathroom was ridiculously small (3ftx7ft) with only a shower and the sink so small my husband couldn't shave. We were woken up in the middle of night by a huge row that went on for a long time from the neighbouring house. Also in the day, there was a large group of men lingering outside drinking. The Receptionist at check in was surly and disinterested and was also the same serving breakfast. My elderly husband had to carry his own luggage up the narrow stairs to our room. This hotel has an over inflated opinion of itself and is way overpriced.
excellent small hotel, very good decor and well furnished. excellent staff, very helpful and who can't do enough (mostly - see opp, re: restaurant). My wife was taken ill overnight and the on-call manager was brilliant, even kept contact after we got home.
street parking is a negative, though there was enough available; (keep to the rules and the traffic wardens leave you alone). Restaurant seemed short of staff initially, had to wait to be "noticed". Not a great choice of dishes on menu, and how can Tilapia (a river fish found in Indo-china), be chef's 'catch of the day'? Poor choice of 'special', but otherwise food ok>
Pleasant rooms, Good breakfast, staff friendly.
On street parking, (with permit)
Accommodation was excellent, bathroom, towels could not fault any part of the hotel. Staff need to smile more, but perhaps it was a bad day.
The place was very nice and the breakfast was first class.Parking could be an issue (it wasn't for us) as it is in the middle of a residential area with some quite narrow streets.
The bathroom would benefit from some shelving in the bathroom for guests toiletries rather than having to use the toilet cistern.
Would stay again
Good size room King size bed Good breakfast
Toilet very small
Lack of on-site parking
The staff were very helpful at all times. The bedrooms are fitted out to a very high standard. We tried the restaurant at the hotel one night, which was first class and the food was excellent. We will be returning again to this hotel, the best in Southsea and Portsmouth in our view.
Staff we're very helpful, and knowledgeable about the area
Very poor soundproofing in the rooms meant I was woken up when anyone walked past and could hear conversations in other rooms. The restaurant wasn't available.
The staff were very friendly and helpful
The toilet was so close to ceiling my hisband had to stand awkwardly to us the toilet.
