Score from 140 reviews Fabulous
Superbly located in Portsmouth’s lively waterfront development, Gunwharf Quays, this hotel offers bright, modern rooms with buffet breakfasts. Shops, bars and restaurants are on the hotel doorstep.
Score from 1033 reviews Very good
Breakfast was excellent. Overall 'boutique' ambience and decor of room quite pleasing. Staff pleasant, efficient and helpful. Good shower.
Room disappointingly small for an 'executive' room. Cheap loo roll did not come up to 'executive' expectations. Not enough shower gel etc for two people. Did not like having to go to a different building for breakfast. Free parking mostly on road in surrounding streets - not very convenient.
The décor Very comfortable bed Food in the restaurant very good
Parking was difficult
Beds were comfy. Breakfast was amazing.
Bathroom needed updating.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. We were able to check out an hour later thanplanned without extra cost. The spa bath in our room was a lovely addition to our stay.
The bed wasn't great for a deluxe room as it creaked every time we moved, also could hear other guests in the hotel.
Superb hotel, stayed here twice in one week! Very comfortable and homely!
Food and facilities were excellent
Being woken up at 3 in the morning by drunk women next door who proceeded to talk rubbish for the next hour which could be clearly heard through the thin walls.
Good location, amazing English old house in excellent condition. Clean, quiet and warm rooms. Staff does everything to feel you at home. Breakfast and restaurant are good.
The breakfast could be in buffet mode, not à la carte, because that would be quicker: it is better for business travellers.
Quality fixtures & fittings. Well presented room. Attention to detail. Helpful friendly staff. Excellent restaurant, good choice of menu.
Room were good size and was very clean
Being next to the front door was pain as people were in and out a lot and slammed the door loud every time
very spacious and comfortable room. Quiet location Excellent breakfast Helpful staff
I was annoyed to find that the restaurant was closed for refurbishment which meant that I could not eat at the hotel.I would have liked to have been notified in advance so that I could have organised something. Diffciult to find even with GPS Hotel appeared to be based in different houses in the area - confusing Poor parkingfacilities
The size of the room was nice, nice bathroom too. More like a B&B though, not a hotel.
The other buildings seemed fresher & more 'boutique', the ground floor room we stayed in was pleasant but cold despite full heating (which went off despite minus temperatures outside & the only duvet in the room was thin, no extra blankets available), it had a tatty looking chair in it & the room lacked a 'boutique' hotel touch.
Very nice and helpful staff. Good breakfast.
The bathroom had windows that were completely see-through inspite of a little frosted pattern. Not a good idea!
THE STAFF WERE VERY GOOD AND WELCOMING. THE ROOMS WERE NICE AND CLEAN. THE BREAKFAST WAS GOOD CHOICE.
COULD NOT CONNECT TO MY WIFI.
A good hotel although we felt it was more like an upmarket b and b..Still nice place for an over night stay.
Parking difficult on side streets. Pot luck if you can park nearby.
Atmosphere of the hotel. Staff very friendly and observant to needs of their guests. First visit to Portsmouth. We would like to re-visit and we would use Somerset House again and the restaurant was excellent, food and service.
Homely self-contained feeling. Restaurant. Staff.
All the service and facilities were faultless. The breakfast was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble to make our stay perfect. The location is a short walk from the sea front and the shops and restaurants of Palmerston Rd.
What a fabulous hotel. Everything top spec. Staff very pleasant knowledgeable and nothing too much trouble
Having to go home to reality
Typical English building, breakfest great, stuff great
Narrow common stairs.
Very friendly and helpful staff. A really nice room with a comfy bed and a nice powerful shower.
One member of staff was exceptionally helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was fairly good.
- The hotel is split into 3 separate buildings, you have to walk across the street to get to reception, the bar and breakfast. Our room was in a separate "house" which felt unsafe. - No 24 hr reception. - The first room we were given had only 1 very small free standing wardrobe for storage, no drawers at all, we were there for 3 nights and had an average amount of clothes. My husband put his jacket on one of the 6 hangers (!) and the wardrobe would not close! - when I complained we were offered another room which was a lot smaller but at least had a larger wardrobe (still only 6 hangers) and 3 or 4 drawers. Simply not enough storage space in either room for a stay of more than one night for a couple. - the bathroom was concrete tile floor which had gravel/stones that were loose. - The electricity cut off 4 times one night - apparently a dodgy kettle in the building was the cause! - The room was very dark, especially the bathroom, no shaving light. - Noisy street outside, people fighting in the middle of the night. - Very noisy in the building - heard everyone coming and going and talking in their rooms. - Parking - very limited - only 5 or 6 places in the reserved areas. If you don't get one of these you have to park on the very narrow streets. - Overall a very poor 3 star standard hotel in my opinion,I definitely would not class this as 4 star.
The friendly atmosphere of the hotel, and near the sea location.
Possible parking problems if you are unable to park in their car parking spaces.
Booked a room for 3 and would have liked a proper 3rdbed rather than a put you up
Friendly Staff especially Mary She took extreme care of the young one
