Rivendell is a striking Arts and Crafts mansion, set just 15 minutes' walk from the town centre of Dumfries and its railway station. It features rooms with antique furnishings and free WiFi.
Score from 241 reviews Excellent
The Station Hotel is a beautiful Victorian building only a 5-minute walk from the town centre. It still retains many original features, and offers free Wi-Fi and free parking.

We were greeted with a warm welcome, the staff were attentive and smiled, the rooms were comfortable with character and we had a delicious dinner. All in all our stay was most enjoyable. The hotel lived up to our expectations - and more. Thank you to all concerned.
It would do the hotel an injustice if we were to gripe about anything.
Room 10 was a wee bit noisy through the night because of a boiler or air con but room was very comfortable
Room was beautiful very large bed
Towels should be replaced looking pass their best . Especially in these new rooms .
Friendly, helpful staff, good food and comfortable rooms. Easy to find and easy access to the motorway.
We booked very late on our day of arrival, when we turned up we were upgraded to a deluxe room. Staff we're very welcoming and made us feel special. A lovely last minute surprise to the end of an excellent holiday touring the uk. Thanks
The only two very slight concerns were the hot water tap in the bath in room 4 needs attention as it does not flow correctly. Our waiter while serving us was convinced a sirloin steak was a venison steak! Then when the venison steak arrived he assured us it was the sirloin steak. It obviously wasn't but he insisted it was which made an interesting moment. We did mention this and recieved a very nice apology saying he was only new. Other than than that it was excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel
Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Room good size, would recommend this hotel to friends and family. Great value for money in fact I think they could charge more.
Very friendly service from Brian and the team. Very comfortable room and good location if you're travelling to/from England/Scotland
The eating element was a disappointment. The menu is too large and suggests that most items are bought in ready made from the wholesaler. They should consider reducing the choice to a manageable level which would allow for a higher quality of home cooking.
Warm welcome, nothing too much trouble. Super new room at the back of the Hotel. We were heading for the commonwealth games so needed an early start - they made breakfast available early!
Nothing at all
This was organised with the minimum of fuss for 20 people. Food was good, we ate in a private room. Altogether a good occasion enjoyed by all.
I liked everything about this place. The staff were so friendly and lovely. The room was beautiful and spacious, spotlessly clean. Very interesting history about the place designed by Alexander Greek Thompson, a beautiful building will be visiting again.
Very comfortable beds, lovely modern room and great value. Handy for the M74.
Good sized rooms.
WiFi reception not available in room.
The restaurant offers excellent food with a smile. Grilled salmon, venison, lamb sirloin steaks, fish and sticky toffee pudding are a must try!
-spacious room -room recently done up -big flat screen TV -great price
-Noise from kitchen's fridge outside could be heard in my room. Annoying. -WiFi not working in room although I understand will be fixed -Restaurant food average given the price
Pet friendly hotel. There was a lot of choice on the dining room menu and the food was very nice. Breakfast was good we think the hot food was cooked to order so it was fresh.
The room was quite small for 2 adults and 2 dogs.
Only stayed overnight as a stopover on the way North, but impossible to find fault: - + very warm welcome; + excellent room - spacious, four-poster bed and monster tv; + very good evening meal - with locally-sourced meat; + friendly bar, with fine selection of malts;
Nothing to dislike.
The relaxed efficient and friendly manner each person in this family hotel pulled together to make our stay a really pleasant one.
Tried to book for another week but no joy as hotel fully booked - no wonder considering service provided.
Very nice room and friendly staff the food is good but my partners main was not as described on the menu
Loved our stay at the hotel staff where wonderful and room was gorgeous will be staying more often for family events and will recommend to other people
Generally very impressed.
Decor, food, friendly efficient staff, comfortable beautiful newly furnished downstairs room. Liked the attention to detail.
Nothing we didn't like
Good rooms and friendly staff.
Some of the older parts need a bit of TLC.
My room was wonderful. Wood panelling of rare wood taken from a ship wreck many years ago. A four poster bed, a chaise longue, this was not what I expected at all. The bathroom was fine, the linen pristine, I slept like a log. The staff were lovely.
Dinner was not spectacular, but I did only order a chicken salad.
Personal service all staff were very attentive. I got up one hour early by mistake but they still made me breakfast early so I could get on my way
Friendliness of staff, cleanliness and comfort
Quality of food, both evening meal and breakfast.
