everything. the situation, decor and dinner in the stable restaurant superb
nothing to dislike
Well maybe not. But the grand drive up to the house was worth the fee, instantly taking you back to a time grind by. The house itself had maintained its gravitas while adapting subtly to cater for more modern tastes. The evening meal taken at the stables was impressively high quality. As was the breakfast. Overall it had a feeling of visiting country relatives.
Using the sat nav takes you to a golf course
Beautiful historic buildings. Serene grounds. Very friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Large, modern bathroom. Lovely restaurant.
Room was not spotlessly clean (though I certainly wouldn't call it dirty). Without discount, the room price is high. Biggest spider I have ever seen in this country in my bathroom!
I’d booked Soughton Hall via booking.com as a birthday treat with my Dad, ahead of a work meeting in North Wales the following day. We turned up to find a wedding in progress, and asked by reception if we were part of the wedding party. When we said no, we were told “well there will be a disco going on until 12.30.” The hotel restaurant was also shut, meaning we’d have to go out to and look for something. We were shown to our room, which turned out to have a double bed, rather than the twin beds we’d requested specially. No explanation, or even apology was offered for this. The room itself was comfortable enough, but hardly faultless - no wi-fi, a flickering light, a few stains on the duvet, and several minutes of running the tap to get hot water. The public rooms in the hotel (including the library, where I might have had some internet access) were basically out of bounds to us, as they were being used by the wedding party for photos and drinks. The wedding disco was pretty audible during the night, which didn’t make it easy to get to sleep, and this was compounded by having a skylight in the room with no blinds, meaning we were awake with the dawn’s early light. We had been told that breakfast would be served between 9.30 and 10.30, which meant that because I had a business meeting the following day, we had to do without breakfast, and my Dad had a 2 hour drive on an empty stomach. This is a hotel which clearly thinks it’s much better than it is, and having stayed in plenty of high quality country house hotels, I can say that this is not one of them. Had I just wanted somewhere to spend the night, I could have booked a travel lodge for a quarter of the price. I wanted something nicer – a bit of a treat. Instead, we were made to feel unwelcome and awkward, and received a level of service well below what I thought we were paying for.
The décor of the Hotel and bedroom was befitting of the style of the building. Nothing seemed out of place, everything was appropriate. Beautiful surroundings. I would love to return to explore more of the grounds, more of the menu and some of the other rooms!
Some of the Electric Sockets did not work, which was limiting for a modern traveller with multiple devices, hair dryers and hair straighteners!! I couldn't find the remote control for the TV. Very minor issues, hardly worth mentioning (But I just did!)
Room ,Walls ,Bed and chairs were all damp. The chairs were too damp to sit on. In addition the window was situated within a couple of feet of the main car park. The room smelled of damp with no way of heating it up. "DREADFUL"
Hall was beautiful, room was fantastic, setting was fab and 2 mins Away from mold
There was nothing
The location and the friendliness

nothing to not like
Friendliness of staff and quality of Accomodation
Limited time for breakfast
Very comfortable and clean
The period features
Great staff who were very helpful and polite.
This old country house is the genuine article. It has been beautifully maintained and has good facilities. The staff are very pleasant and it boasts a decent restaurant in the handsome stables across from the main house. The clincher for me is the picturesque parkland that the house is situated in. A real pleasure to stroll around. I shall be calling again when I am next in the area.
wifi struggled in some areas of the house
It was a lovely place and very beautiful surroundings, I was expecting the room to be oldie worldie but unfortunately not. We did enjoy ourself and dinner was amazing.
That the jacuzzi bath was broken it was a bit disappointing
The setting, lovely old hall. Clean, quiet room if a bit small.
Noone there to check you in. There was a notice to call the restaurant but it was hidden & we had to go and find someone. A waitress ran over and checked us in, very casual if not rude. The restaurant's menu us a real mish-mash of food and not very good. Portions so massive we only had starters. Worst idea I've EVER seen for ordering wine... go to a shelf and pick your own, marked with prices! (But not in right places and no one to help). Who wants to get up and stand choosing wine as if they're in Tesco?? Ridiculous. (And the wine by the glass seemed like it WAS from Tesco... at x6 the price!)
brilliant team running a beautiful mansion house ,very very comfortable stay couldnt do anymore for you
A real hidden gem that I can't recommend highly enough. Beautiful rooms and lovely staff who make you feel like a VIP.
Thoroughly enjoyable stay . Super place and lovely staff . Great breakfast and ate both nights in the stable bar which was very good . Would definitely come back
Beautiful location and property. Excellent staff
The house and gardens.
The customer service and attention. No reception and no point of contact.
Location House Decor Stables restaurant Stake very helpful
The tea and coffee tray could have been stocked better One biscuit between 2 people
Food was expensive for the quality Wifi - limited
The house is a gem, a quite unique period piece. It is extremely informal, not run like a hotel, more a family house. The gardens are spectacular. The staff were helpful and friendly.
My only regret is that I didn't have time to try a meal in the stable restaurant as I've heard excellent reports...
The setting in beautiful grounds and a lovely old house. Lovely meal in the Pub in the grounds.
Not being booked in. A small room at top of the house that they managed to find for us. long time for shower water to heat up. Water Too cold for a bath.Trouble flushing the loo . No soap in the bathroom only a small shower gel . Pub in grounds closed on a Sunday. Having to ring to say we were back in On the Sunday night at 7 O'clock so they could lock the door. having to ring down for heat to be turned on as it got very cold and no heat in the room in the room. Finding out on the Monday morning that they didn' t open on a Sunday anyway.
