Clean,catering staff friendly
reception were not very helpful, gave me minimal information I had to keep asking questions to get all information I need. there was a Christmas party and very loud music again reception should have warned me about it. I would say reception had poor customer service
We have stayed at South Lodge before but on this occasion we felt the hotel was looking rather neglected and tired.
Stay was disappointing. Would not recommend.
The breakfast was nice.
I think the room is over priced, considering it's very basic & the bathroom fan has a very loud noise.!!! Our bedroom was situated at the front and the sign light which made the room open to a lot of light ; and makes you harder to sleep. There was also a large fan in the room which took a lot of space and was unnecessary in the room for winter .? You unfortunately also hear a lot you room neighbors .
Food was very good
Bed linen was fresh and clean bed comfortable ,bar & restaurant food was excellent staff also.
Rm 24 to stop the bath room extractor fan we had to remove key card as light switch when switched off didn't make a difference (either no timer or us) also noise from back stairs sounded like a boiler. breakfast and tea & coffee luke warm
Very helpful and friendly guy behind the bar
Clean and comfortable.
We were on upper floor and ceiling slopes in. Sitting of bed in room meant on oneside if you got out of bead in the dark you could walk into the slopping roof. I have the bruise to prove it. Needs bead repositioning
Welcoming staff, nice bar and restaurant
Good location with good sized room & comfortable bed. The staff were friendly & the cooked breakfast was more than adequate.
The hotel exterior could do with a bit of TLC.
The four poster bed was very comfortable, had a great night sleep.
A few cobwebs around the window.
cleanliness was good breakfast was good parking was good
We couldn't get hot water in overhead shower...I specifically asked for a good working shower when I made the booking! The hotel manager dithered around when we asked for a refund for this, he said he had to check with booking.com and ring us later. He either had to think about a commission payment or he was unable to process a refund on a card?? He did ring us later and we received a part refund on the room. Why he couldn't make a decision himself at the time was appalling! We left the hotel feeling very disgruntled. I am sick of shoddy plumbing in English hotels.
Clean & comfortable ,good location and easy to find. Staff very helpful , good breakfast.
I think there should be bottle water & biscuits in room ,extra chair in room. leaking sky light in bathroom. Very hot building. even with windows open.
Near location to County Cricket Ground. Helpful staff.
No atmosphere in Restaurant so had to look elsewhere for Evening Dinner (not easy in Chelmsford)
Breakfast was nice
Mix Match of old furniture. Hotel looks tired.
Accommodation clean comfortable and fair value for money.
The full English breakfast, presented as a buffet, was poor, expensive at £10.99 with undercooked fatty bacon. When we got there at 8am is was cold having been sitting out since 7am!!!!
seven out of ten, staff a bit difficult at times but helpful.Wifi very sketchy in the rooms but ok in the bar area.Nice english breakfast
Good central location, but street noise at night was a bit disconcerting. The rooms were clean & comfortable but would have benefitted from better sound proofing.
Breakfast was well presented, but the room where it was served was much too small & cold.! If every guest came down at the same time, at least half would have nowhere to sit.!
Décor old fashioned and could do with new curtains that fit the window
Nothing is bad. Everything is excellent in this hotel.
There were no good views to my room. But it is a minor thing since the other facilities were excellent.
mostly friendly staff They were flexible with the evening meal on the second night - wish I had asked on the first night - my mistake as it was really lovely
hot breakfast was cold, the menu in the room was not the menu in the resaurant trouble with the TV access and volume - so could not work it out on the first night and tt tired to ask
Breakfast was very good Room clean and tidy but Could do with some biscuits with tea making facilities
Having to carry my own heavy luggage up the stairs no one offered to carry for me as I am quite old and not so strong
Very good and helpful staff Restaurant and garden very nice
No lift Only bar menu available in evening when I was there
clean accomodation, helpful cheery staff, well cooked food
Think £85 is too high, (£55-65 would be fair) and restaurant prices are also very high, some rooms overlooked by bus stop so no privacy....
not too far from the town centre.
unbeknownst to me, my room was tucked away on the top floor, but the staff did not offer to help me with my luggage. There are only two plugs in the room, and one of those is for the telly, so if you want to charge your phone, laptop etc, you will be a bit inconvenienced (unless you carry around an extension like I do). My sat nav didn't take me to the hotel, so i had to go round the road a couple of times
