Very close to the cathedral and city, but not noisy. Easy access. Room comfortable, nice en-suite, staff helpful. No hesitation about staying again

    Good location, clean and pleasant.

Lack of bottled water in the room. A four star hotel should at least have one small bottle of water by the bedside of each guest!! Shouldn't have to call room service for such a basic necessity of life.

The situation close to the city centre is excellent and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food and wine again are excellent but you need to take advantage of the offers to bring the cost to a reasonable level.

The cost of the wines is high - unless there is an offer available. The background music in the restaurant, although fairly quiet, is of a very poor choice.

Excellent reception staff - very efficient , helpful and however busy they were they never rushed dealing with your enquiries or the attention you needed. Also the dining room staff made you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

That my stay went too quickly!

A friendly welcome. A helpful staff.A tasteful decoration. A cosy atmosphere. A quiet location. An up-to-the-mark breakfast buffet.

In the bathroom: No make-up mirror + You stand 70cm from the non-lit mirror when in front of the washing-basin!!No hairdryer (it'splugged in a drawer in the bedroom!). Practical details you shouldn't miss in a Priviledge Room!

The hotel was one of best I have stayed in. Excellent location - bedrooms were spacious and very nicely decorated. Had a really good nights sleep as it was so quiet. We will definitely recommend the Mercure to others and will be back very soon!!

Thought the parking could have been free as we were guests in the hotel.

Have stayed many times at Southgate Hotel however just a small point the lane swimming floats made the pool somewhat restricted.

Lovely, helpful staff. The décor of the hotel is very nice. A 5 minute walk from the Cathedral and the city centre.

Disappointed with the leisure facilities. For the money we paid and the standard of the rest of the hotel the spa facilities really let it down. Our main reason for booking this hotel was because of the leisure facilities.

I've stayed here many times and always get a good sized and clean room. The experience is always enjoyable and relaxing. In regard to facilities, the bathroom was fine although the shower took some turning on and off as the mechanism was quite tight - I suspect the elderly might have struggled to operate it effectively.

My room did not have a safe for valuables.

Staff were helpful and friendly and our room was a good size. We enjoyed a swim in the pool, used the jacuzzi and sauna...very Relaxing as was our last drink in the bar to end our lovely evening. I would recommend this hotel. Parking was abundant and great value in comparison to charges in Exeter itself.

    Nothing.

The room and its facilities were clean and comfortable. Soundproofing on window was extremely effective. Breakfast was very good.

We were told at check-in that room was on ground floor, which was fine. But not when we discovered that it looked onto the car park. Car park not problem for sound - see 'likes' - but NO privacy without having curtains closed. Spoiled an otherwise good 'birthday' visit.
