The whole ambiance of the hotel was super, would liked to have had dinner at the hotel but unfortunately we were attending another function
Nothing, everything was perfect
This place was just perfect. The staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. The hotel is beautiful, from tip to toe, very clean and it has everything you need. They will do everything they can to ensure you have a perfect stay! Dinner was lovely too. I honestly cannot fault any part of our stay here. We were both delighted.
There is nothing to fault about South Lodge. Nothing.
The room was fantastic - we had a large ground floor room with direct access to the grounds which made travelling with a dog really easy (the hotel provided a dog bed and bowls) All staff was incredibly welcoming and overall the ambience of the hotel was great The food in the restaurant was lovely
Loved the service, it was second to none. Loved the Christmas tree in our room
Service had significantly slipped since last visit - lack of consideration and slow provision
We stayed at south lodge for our first wedding anniversary having spent our wedding night there the year before. We LOVE this place, the staff are amazing, nothing is ever too much & they are such fun. The place speaks for itself, beautiful, clean, such luxury without being pretentious or cold. The people are what makes this place so special.
I guess the only slightly negative thing I have to say about it is about the other guests! Nobody talks to you or smiles. We got lots of disapproving looks from the other guests, perhaps because we are a young couple staying in such an amazing place I don't know! Nevertheless, to say the staff made up for it is an understatement (we didn't say anything obviously but they are overly friendly & kind naturally) & it didn't bother us & we just smiled about so their loss!
We attended the BBC Community awards ceremony my wife was shortlisted to receive an award. As a special treat I booked a room for the night after the event . My Wife won the nomination for fundraising so in all it was a very special and momentous occasion for us both. The stay at the hotel was our icing on the cake. Thank you.
As you drive in you know your going yo have a super stay . The welcome from the front desk was warm and helpful . We ere shown to our room by a very knowledgable young man who was a great ambassador for South Lodge . We had a corner junior suite which was large and had lovely views . The breakfast was superb . The only thing that could improve this lovely hotel would be a full spa like its sister hotel Pennyhill Park . Wonderful . Thank you .
The suite and huge bathroom
Having only one nights stay
Open fire burning in entrance The elegant historical building and the new refurb annexes Large bedrooms Large windows Stunning views Quality of food. Piano bar
Bar service was disgracefully slow Staff shortage on a peak The hotel common areas were far too overheated. The last dining room had little atmosphere & the service was therefore a little neglected
The staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. Our dog was welcomed and enjoyed his stay. The rooms and facilities are excellent.
Staff Beds Room Facilities Bathroom Size of Rooms Breakfast
amazing bathroom, comfy bed, great service, beautiful grounds and choice of scented pillows!
No pool or spa
We loved the luxury of the old traditional hotel. The staff were caring and accomodating. From the moment we arrived to the time we left nothing was too much trouble for them. This type of service is a lost art - we were made to feel most welcome. We would stay again on another trip.
The only issue we had was not to do with the hotel but with the fact we were from out of the country and didn't have a car so getting around became a bit inconvenient
Grounds that you can actually explore and feel like you are in the countryside and not about to be hit by a golf ball. Outstanding food. Very comfortable room and bed.
The style of service was a little too formal for our taste.
The stay was wonderful, the staff could not have been more friendly or attentive. The Hotel and grounds were fabulous.
Not a real dislike but A/C would have been more comfortable
The staff are amazing, nothing is to much trouble. The bedroom was glorious and the bathroom was huge!
The hotels grounds are huge and just need a bit of nurturing.
Space for kids and dogs Good dining experience spacious mini-suite/ larger room Good views of South Downs Attentive staff
TV in bathroom No minibar of fridge Taps that cannot be turned with wet hands Very poor terrace service during the day Technology that didn't work
Everything. Literally everything. A wonderfully warm welcome from Ella on the front desk. A complimentary upgrade to a room with a steam shower - that's a shower room that doubles as a steam room, whatever next. Grub great, all the public rooms superb ambiance. Fabulous grounds.
Beautiful comfortable hotel with wonderful gardens and walks
Lovely big beds, very polite room service staff. Beautiful grounds and building.
I booked with family as it was my wedding weekend but obviously the hotel did not know this until I arrived and informed them. We went for dinner but were stopped on our way back in and asked when we were leaving the next day for my wedding. When I told them it would be about 1.30 ish I was told that I couldn't leave then and must leave before then as there was another bride and she had paid a lot of money to be there and would be arriving at the time of me leaving. I said I may not leave them and could leave later but not earlier and even suggested that perhaps I use a different exit. No compensation was offered for this which I feel considering the supposed "quality" of the hotel this could have been done, generally I think their approach to dealing with this was a little insensitive and could be handled better in future. Some of the rooms were fairly tatty with brown water marks on the walls and ripped upholstery on the chairs although mine was lovely I must say. At breakfast the following day we did have to ask 3 times if we could order and there was no one there so I'm not really sure what was going on.
Very good size room with excellent en-suite facilities. Housekeeping very good. Good location for Hickstead. Dining outside excellent -garden terrace for all meals. Very warm feel to bars. Staff for service a little light, not always around. Well equipped gym.
Acres of park land not well looked after, lake walk very rough. A few wild flower meadows set around the edge of the large lawn and lake would have improved this without too much extra work. Leisure facilities could be improved with a pool and spa.
Lovely hotel extremely clean and beautifully maintained. Staff very pleasant and courteous. Bedrooms were comfortable and spacious.
We had to wait for our room it wasn't ready. Had a complimentary drink in bar where service was slow considering we only had a water and cider. Shame no swimming pool or Spa.
