There seems to be more eating/bar places opening up along lord street which is good because it was starting to look empty. More shops would be good and maybe longer opening hours for some that holiday makers like to browse in.
The biggest downfall for us is the pier having closed down and I am sure a lot of people must think the same because it was always busy with people walking the length of the pier and this really does put us off going as often as we would have done.
I would not like to walk along lord street on my own after the majority of shops close because it can be a bit intimidating when the doorways start to be taken over with sleeping bags and duvets etc.
We have stayed in the Waterfront hotel but not since all the building works started all around it and such a shame the big Hungry Horse there closed down. So finally Southport is not as appealing as it used to be at the moment and fingers crossed it will improve quickly.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size and variety of shops within the town. Lots of lovely little arcades and side streets as well as many big known brands and some independent shops. We loved the old buildings and the walk around the pleasure lake. We were only there for the weekend and could have spent a lot longer exploring. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops to chose from. Southport had authenticity and charm.

Really like Southport, lots for children down at the marina, so many beautiful swans and huge geese😊crazy golf , timber playground, helter skelter and funfair, open green spaces and parks, more than enough shops & supermarkets , great pubs and endless eating places. Trains every 15 mins gets you to Liverpool City and beyond to Chester City and Chester Zoo, take a train or bus to Ormskirk market.

A tired Victorian seaside town that is still, overshadowed by the stoic stature of Queen Victoria, the boulevard Lord Street among others, aping those of Paris struggling to appeal to visitors and the locals alike. Didn't visit the Museum as planned, the Street flowers pots are grey, the flowers are barely springing up inline with the weather. The area around railway station and the Merseyside Rail itself, are in such a sad state, a reflection of the current local poor economy.

We have stayed at the same hotel many times and we particularly like the secure underground carpark for peace of mind and the easy lift access from it to reception and to our room after checking in. The new Restaurant menu is now much improved, so we gave it a try and we were pleasantly contented. Normally in the evening we would eat out at the Grand Brassier or the Vincent.
Southport itself has a very pleasant atmosphere and is a nice relaxing place to be.

Southport is ok. Just not Balmoral Lodge hotel.
Southport is ok. Just not Balmoral Lodge hotel. As a seaside resort there are much nicer places In the North west but it is ok, I suppose. I wouldn't choose to come here for a holiday but as a single woman visiting her mother in a care home in Bootle, I thought I may feel more comfortable in the evening here than closer to Liverpool. However, I didn't feel very safe in the hotel unfortunately although it felt ok walking up and down Lord St after dark to stretch my legs. For a walk near the sea Crosby sea front is far nicer - you can walk there for a few miles across the beach and along the coastal path towards Formby. The Anthony Gormley statues there add to the atmosphere and are well worth seeing. The sea or at least the Mersey is visible and very present there even if the tide is out. However Southport is seaside without any actual sea although I suppose it is pleasant enough in its own sweet , slightly run down way. The sea is rarely visible, be warned if you want sea.
From the moment we step through the door on our first arrival we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. The room WOW what can i say it has to be one of the nicest that we have stayed in on our many many trips to southport over the years. Later stopping off in the bar for a drink we found out the long history of the hotel and along with the added touch of the continental breakfast in the morning just made our stay perfect.....Will definately be returning back to this little gem.
The apartment was exceptional. Situated along the main road in Southport it allowed us to spend time as a family rather than stuck in separate hotel rooms. The flat was super clean with a well equipped kitchen. Bathrobes, huge towels and toiletries made the stay special. Access was via a lock box by the front door. Contact with the site before our arrival was via the internet and clear instructions on location, parking and access was excellent.
This was a budget hotel with rooms and delivered what it promised. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. It is not a top of the range hotel, but does not claim to be one. It represents good value for money in the lower price range. A free parking pass was supplied by the manager and I was able to park nearby for nothing all the time I was there. Location is also very central.
Everything! Jane made us feel so welcome from the minute we stepped through the door.
The hotel is a beautiful Victorian villa, exceptionally clean throughout, comfy, lovely relaxed breakfasts, a real home from home….well, better really!
Very good value for money.
Southport itself is a beautiful town, a pleasure to explore.
I had a close family member admitted to Southport and Formby Hospital and needed a hotel as close as possible and for an indefinite period. Debbie and Ken who run the Talbot could not have been more helpful. I had everything I needed. The hotel was clean, well maintained and very comfortable. I couldn’t have asked for more.
Everything was amazing love the food staff were polite and friendly service comfortable beds beautiful stay and easy to get about and find your way in the hotel amazing amazing beautiful stay
