staff extremely friendly and helpful food imaginative, well presented and appetising - as vegetarians we were well catered for. All areas clean and comfortable. Public rooms smaller than illustrated, a slight problem when over populated esp during daytime when events or functions taking place.

if you are going to the forest of dean you couldn't ask for a better location as this hotel is right in the middle of the forest so you can access all areas of the forest and surrounding areas easily. the hotel itself is clean with friendly staff and we stayed in a family room in the courtyard for one night and would happily stay here again

Excellent staff and facilities. This was our second stay within two weeks and I cannot express how much we enjoyed staying at Speech House. A slightly later check-out would be useful

Excellent location at the start/finish line of the Forest of Dean Half Marathon. Weather put pay to the race but we still enjoyed an excellent stay at Speech House and will be back. The four poster was comfortable and the bath easily fitted two; what more could we ask? Checkout is at 10.30, 12 would be more appropriate plus the hotel accidentally charged me twice though this was easily sorted.

The 4 poster bedroom. The food was excellent. The whole `atmosphere` of the hotel. This is our second trip there & we would go again. The staff were efficient & friendly. Our room faced onto the main road & as the building is fairly old, it did not have modern double-glazing.So the noise from the trafffic was a problem early in the morning.

The welcome was good, the evening meal was superb, the location we knew was wonderful The room was small, adequate is the best description, bathroom had 'adequate' shower, but a lot of black mould, bedroom, had many many cobwebs, especially above and around windows. The only reason this was not mentioned was that the receptionist was particularly helpfull. I don't think we'll be staying at Speech House Hotel again. It is such a pity, we like the area very much, and the hotel does only need some tlc. Elbow grease!! It is down to poor housekeeping.

The friendliness of the staff. The only disappointments were that our room was advertised as a luxury double, but it was no bigger than our double at home. The shower unit was exceptionally hot, and took patience to wait for the regulator to kick in. The pressure died when switched to a cooler temperature and we felt it was not more than a trickle!! But then we were positioned at the very top of the hotel.

Good location ,that's the positive. We had booked a family room and a double. Both rooms looked as though they needed re -decorating, carpets were stained . The shower had hair in the plug hole and a dripping tap in the basin . We could here the people talking clearly in the room next door. So don't think we will be staying again
