The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was first class. We had not been warned that renovation work was underway. Negotiating ladders, wiring, builder's sheets, etc, was a problem at times, and there was work noise from the room next door occasionally.

Location - town centre but secluded. Service and cleanliness excellent. Breakfast menu varied and catered well for anyone who can't face the 'full english'. Noise insulation. We could hear other guests talking especially in room above so were (eg) conscious of not keeping telly on too late ourselves. (Sleep was not disturbed though.)

Staff were pleasant. Proximity to town. Good size room The room has a dressing table but no mirror. The cupboards need to have some shelves. Definitely need some luggage rack. Only the last day of our trip was the room cleaned properly.Pastries, fruit & yoghurt were not always there.

Nice hotel - our room overlooked the gardens which was lovely. The staff - with only one exception - were extremely pleasant and helpful. Could have done with a warmer welcome but that aside the food in the restaurant was superb. Im sure it will be very nice when the refurb is finished. Over efficient young man on reception. Our room was recently refurbished but unfinished. No mirror for hair drying and very dusty. No hotel details/fire escape route/etc in room so we had to try to remember what we were told very quickly at check-in. Piles of builders materials at top of stairs. Price of room was eventually adjusted.

Everything was clean. The price we paid through booking with Booking.com, My cooked breakfast was fine, but my husband's egg benedict was really not at all nice with what looked like cold mayonnaise instead of sauce and a wilted piece of watercress on top. I thinks when the builders have left the place could be good. The house itself has a lot of character. We were there to see what it was like to book a lot of rooms for a family wedding. The receptionist said that the rooms should all be finished by the time we wanted to book again, but was happy to show us the refurbished ones and we could stay in one but it smelt of paint. He showed us two, and one did smell of paint. The other was not booked but we would have to pay more for it. The room we had booked had a thread bare carpet, squeaky beds and the workmen seemed to arrive very early in the morning in the room above as there was a lot of noise around 7.30 or even earlier that woke us. As we were on holiday, we really wanted to get some extra sleep. Shame about my husband's breakfast. We decided to use the next day looking at other hotels for our large party of wedding guests as we would not want to chance the building work being finished in time. Shame as this one would have been the best position in the town.

The hotel and grounds - very peaceful location and close to town centre' Public rooms nicely furnished and bedroom was large and comfortable. Hotel is being refurbished at present which means a certain amount of disruption but that should soon be finished. Coffee at breakfast was bitter.

Friendly staff. General setting it will be very impressive when renovations have been completed. Great potential. Very stylish potential. Great service and interior dining bar areas. Currently the reception staff appeared to be fitting in greeting duties with more pressing business. Staff should never discuss online problems in front of arriving guests. Discuss management problems out of hearing of guests on all occasions.

Price, convenient location. Friendly staff. Didn't sample the food because I was meeting a group who were staying elsewhere. Did not like the large tree. It seemed, late at night, that it was not possible to park without being under a part of it or under one tree or another, so in the morning the cabriolet hood on my Porsche was covered in congealed crusty bird poo! Not a happy bunny but not directly your fault.

Clean & tidy Could do with full paint revamp. Room we stayed in was far too nosiy - could hear couple in room above very clearly and also appeared that the water pipes in the hotel ran through our room it was so noisy in the middle of the night when people was using the toilets etc.
