We travelled from a distance for a wedding and requested an early check in which the hotel advised they couldn't guarantee but said they would provide a place for us to freshen up. In the event the room was ready and we checked in early. Breakfast only being served until 9.30am!!

The room and the surroundings. I mentioned in our booking that the visit was for our Pearl wedding anniversary and thought that you may have supplied a little extra touch.

Everyone who staffed the hotel, the architectural and interior design, the Japanese influence seen through the selected artifacts and furniture all enriched the ambiance of St.Michael's Manor. The surrounding environment is beautiful. Just go and stay at this hotel. It is magnificent.

Comfort. Good food. Comprehensively equipped bedrooms. Excellent service. Convenient and spacious car park. Beautiful grounds. Impressive conservatory dining room. Rather intrusive vocal 'musak' at times in the dining room, some of it tasteless 'pop' not in keeping with the elegant surroundings. Quiet background non-vocal music is all that is required when diners are trying to enjoy a conversational meal. Bedside reading lights could be brighter.

Our room was very quiet, clean and spacious. There were no winding staircases so access to public areas was easy.

Good location and nice grounds. Beds should have been more comfortable and the dining room lacked a bit of atmosphere.

It is a beautiful hotel the staff were wonderful, attentive and made us feel really welcome. The hotel is beautifully furnished and the restaurant is a perfect room to relax and dine with the grounds surrounding it. We celebrated my Mum's birthday here and it made it a memorable occasion. The beautiful town of St. Albans was walking distance which made it even more relaxing. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We liked the intimate atmosphere of the hotel, the beautiful setting, especially the park with the birds, and afternoon tea. The only thing we were disappointed in was the price for dinner. We did not feel the amount of food justified the expense.

We were very impressed with the friendly and professional staff and excellent presentation of the room. The food was top notch and the hotel sits in its own parkland with a lovely lake to walk round. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We have stayed before, and believe it is the best hotel in the area. The staff are excellent and our room was superb! We shall return as soon as we can. One small negative comment, was that we felt the bar prices were a little high. But this did not detract from the enjoyment of our stay.

Nice hotel in beautiful surroundings. Very quiet. They urgently need to sort out the water supply levels from the bathroom sink taps. I was scolded twice by floods coming over the side, over my lower regions! Very dangerous.,Then slipped later on the water on the floor. They tried to charge me for a ( not cheap) bottle of wine I never had. Its one of those places which could be excellent, but isn't quite, because of little things that add up to annoy you..

The grounds of the hotel are stunning, complete with mature trees, lake and resident waterfowl. Our garden wing room was beautifully appointed with four poster bed, easy chairs etc. and was very comfortable. Dinner in the conservatory was excellent. The staff were attentive and pleasant.

Our room was tastefully decorated - chinese influence. The bed was extremely comfortable and the facilities in the room were very good, ie coffee/tea making, ironing board etc - attention to detail that really makes a difference. The grounds are immaculate - the lawns would have done Wembley proud!! Also the lake made it an idyllic place to relax. The breakfast choice was extensive and very good. We ate in our room on the last day and it was like a banquet!! Overall a very enjoyable experince and we would definately return. A few little niggling points that just stopped it being a perfect break!!. We asked for an early morning call which didn't come!!?. This meant that we were really under pressure to get into breakfast in time, as we wanted to use the restaurant on the first day. It was also extremely hot in the restaurant and the air con should have been put on to make it more comfortable. The shower is the most complicated of contraptions to use, and in fact we had to ring reception to ask for help. She said 'yes they are very difficult to use - shall I come and show you'??. If this is the case it is time for a re-fit !!!! - I must have spent 10 minutes trying to work them out!!!. The water also came under the glass and flooded the floor!!!

Location and gardens were beautiful Reception was very unwelcoming and abrupt. Were not shown to rooms.Bags not carried.Noise of dismantling diso equip until 1 am.Breakfast times not long enough, especially as we were celebrating our first night of honeymoon.Breakfast poor, very limited choice on buffet table and cold meat and cheese was in direct sunlight, very un appatizing look.Porridge or cooked breakfast?at this high price I would expect both.Mini bar not switched on in room.A Totally overpriced unsatisfactory stay and I would not reccommend to anyone, for this price I expect excellence.Very dissapointing stay, especially as was cellebrating something special.

My wife and I stopped just the 1 night on our way back from our honeymoon as we had had a night flight from Miami and we both felt we would be to tired to drive back to Lincoln the same day, we both enjoyed the gardens and the area when we went fora walk around the town. The garden and lake were terific and everything about the hotel was a very nice finish to our honeymoon we will deffinitly keep the card for future and also tell our friends about the hotel. Thankyou Tony Thornley

Location and quality of rooms. Excellent staff who accommodated requests freely and in a friendly helpful way. Food was too specialist and exotic for my tastes and quite pricey.
