Extremely friendly greeting with tea and cake in the garden. Location was perfect - total peace, no traffic noise. Superb views and most attractive gardens. Bedroom totally clean and comfortably "shabby" - luverly! Excellent breakfast menu. Ideal centre for walkers.

Minor points really Toast too thin and underdone. A simple evening meal option would have been most welcome in view of the isolated location.

It is in a superb location and it's such an interesting, attractive accommodation with a strong sense of history and yet so thoughtfully decorated. The breakfast was excellent and we had an equally enjoyable evening meal at the Watts Russell near by .

Booked room on booking.com, arrived only to find we'd been double booked with couple who had a groupon offer. Weren't informed of this until we had traveled considerable distance to get to location. They then tried to sell us the last available room, which was a far lesser specification, at a discount. In my opinion they allowed us to travel to the hotel in the hope we would agree to fill their last available room. A phone call in the morning would be, in my option, a far more professional way to conduct business. Probably an innocent mistake but could have, and should have been dealt with better.

The quiet rural location, modern facilities in a building that is kept as close as possible to the time it was built ( English civil war ? ). With no street lighting to be seen for miles around & a clear night sky it would be an excellent location for astronomers. Also being an aircraft enthusiast it was nice to watch the aircraft heading to I believe Manchester airport.

Lovely individual rooms good breakfast tea on lawn on arrival with delicious homemade cake

Only downside is if you want to go and eat in the village there are no local taxi firms

Lovely place, once I found it! Staff were very accommodating. Enjoyed the breakfast and tea and flapjack. I would stay here again.

Booking.com states that Stanshope Hall is 10 miles from Bakewell. On the AA routeplanner it is 17 miles from Bakewell. I believed the distance to be 10 miles so this was the dealbreaker. I booked the accommodation on this basis. Realised I should have checked out the distance with AA routeplanner first as I had to be in Bakewell at a certain time the next morning. This meant that breakfast had to be rushed (served at 8.30 a.m.) and eaten within 15 minutes - felt this placed a certain amount of pressure on both the staff and myself re time limit.
