Overall a really good stay, great breakfast and the quality you would expect for this price. The hotel was very close to the main shops, but about a 20 min walk from the main beach. Very uncomfortable bed, car parking a little crazy - our car got blocked in and we had to do wait for enough cars to leave to get it out. On the flipside, the staff were very willing to help us find a car park when we arrived.

This hotel does need a little modernisation, the room was adequate, though the shower was hardly a power shower. The best feature was the staff, the cute barman/waiter/general everything was excellent, so was most of the rest of the staff. They were all very young but very enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming. Great Yarmouth is not the best of seaside resorts suffering much like the UKs other once grand holiday destinations, run down, poorly maintained and shadow of its former self.

Our trip was short, but necessary to visit a sick friend. Location to railway station and for our bus the following day was excellant. All staff were friendly especilly the resturant staff. Our evening meal seated on the terrace was equally enjoyable food was first rate. Thankyou. Our room very well appointed (but as getting on in years could have done without room down 4 steps and up 5 in stair well) to put card in door. Would have asked for change if we were staying longer. But not detered us for joining you again. Already recommended hotel to my son who travels quite alot.

The bar and reception staff were exceptional, room was clean and bed was very comfortable, food was of a good standard, owner is friendly and genuinely trying to improve things since he took over the hotel, enjoyed our stay The restaurant staff do not really have a clue how to look after guests or to serve tables and loud music is not what you want when you are trying to talk to each other at breakfast, food is good though, much training needed for the waiting staff

The staff where great, very friendly, the Hotel is a little old but I think they make the best of what they have available. Having WiFi availble is a bonus. One small point; at breakfast I asked for bread and brown sauce with my meal, my meal arrived at my table unfortunately the bread and sauce did not arrive at the same time, in fact I was half way through my meal when the waiter delivered them. Not a big issue but annoying.

Handy for the centre of Great Yarmouth. Parking on site. Noise from the downstairs disco was too loud for comfort as it went on until midnight at least on the Saturday night. This was compounded by the locks on the doors which make it impossible to shut them quietly, so consequently after the disco and early in the morning noise is a problem. If I had known there was a party booked in to celebrate a family birthday I would not have booked that weekend. Never had this problem before so may have been the room's location above a central well in the building.

The Star Hotel is a building full of character and charm and is located in a riverside setting which is easy to find being close to the end of the A47 in Great Yarmouth.

The staff were absolutely wonderful with our young son who'd just turned one. He was abit noisy at times but nothing was too difficult. Id recommend dining in the hotel as well..excellent service .... id recommend a bigger room if youre taking your own cot with you..we stayed in a double room which was okay but our son who usually stays in his owjn room at home decided he wont go to sleep after all with us in the same room after all until he was reallly tired.... ....Wished we had gotton a family size room where we could tuck the cot in a quiet corner.

we had a lovely time, staff very well organised and very friendly. breakfast was really nice and the dining room was lovely, we saw the large bridge over the river working to let some boats through whilst enjoying our coffee, through the terraced window (25 years of visiting Great Yarmouth and first time we have ever seen it working). Parking in a safe place was a bonus too. And thank you to the nice young lady behind the bar who shared her after eight chocs with us.

I was taking a short sea cruise, the vessel docked at South Quay, which is a short distance walk from the hotel. also the hotel provided free car parking .The restuarant was excellent. The rooms are adequate and clean. As with all town/city locations the surrounds could do with a clean up and litter pick.

Room was lovely - quiet, spacious, clean and in very good decorative order. Big bed and very comfy. Lovely old building. Enjoyed evening meal.Only a short walk to main shops. Breakfast was very unorganised. No one greeted us and we had to part lay our table. Waited 1hour 10mins for cooked breakfast and to make matters worse a group of people arriving after us got serviced long before us. The manager did say that 2 staff had failed to turn up but if we had all be serviced in time order everyone would have felt less angry.

The staff - from the minute we arrived until the moment we left the staff were warm and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Unfortunately booking.com hadn't forwarded our booking to the hotel so when we arrived there was no reservation for us but luckily there was 1 room left available. Would stay at the hotel again but would.book direct next time! The walls were a bit thin. We stayed at the hotel with a baby and were in a room next to a group of lads out on a stag weekend. Their shower was very loud in our room and we were dreading them coming back in the early hours of the morning but after a word with the front desk a message was left for them with the night porter and we didn't hear a thing.

The hotel was clean with victorian charm. The staff were very helpful and polite. Some parts of the rooms are a bit poorly maintained, but this is exceptable given the age of the hotel.
