Beautiful building - the oldest in Alfriston. Warming open fire in bar area. Dogs allowed in bar area. Good all you can eat breakfast.
Friendly and helpful staff, at all hours. Very good buffet breakfast. Excellent location and parking is an absolute bonus.
Decor was a little tired and somewhat dated.
Location, staff and ambiance were all excellent.
Dinner in restaurant was good rather than excellent. Quite expensive for what it was
The facade was splendid but around the back where the rooms were located was like a B Grade Motel complex
Comfortable room, pleasant location, historic building
Smoking area in car park created excessive noise for our bedroom, breakfast no more than adequate. Overpriced for the quality of the accommodation.
Relaxed atmosphere. Staff tried hard, very pleasant. Receptionist very helpful with problem with bath & shower, partly rectifying it herself.
Training of new chef made a 45 minute wait for dinner rather trying. Scalding hot water in bathroom dangerous.
Staff very friendly and efficient. Comfortable room and pleasant public areas, particularly the bar. Excellent evening meal in the restaurant.
Breakfast was disappointing quality (particularly as we had a lovely evening meal on the previous night). Staff did not know any details about public transport in the area. I resented the fact that there was a 2% surcharge on credit card payment for accommodation: surely this is not the norm. It would potentially put me off if there were other options available.
The bedroom and the staff
Price was a bit steep on that particular occasion.
The location was ideal for us as we were attending a wedding in Eastbourne. Have stayed in Alfreston before but at a hotel across the road. Hotel was big, plenty of rooms, and most importantly available on the date we wanted.
We were not informed that our written request via booking.com for a noon check in would incur a fee of £15! they also charge 2.5% on credit card payments./ Breakfast adequate but choice uninspiring.
nothing special and expensive for B&B, water issues too hot, not an easy cool water adaptation
Location Half-timbered frontage Nice bar area Hanging baskets Staff Good sized room Breakfast
Some tired decor Plumbing in bathroom Armchairs comfy but threadbare
Lovely village. Pleasant bar area
The star was a real old pub with character, food was good and friendly staff.
Room comfortable with two chairs
The bar food was a great disappointment - incredible prices for a very limited choice and not great food.
Location and comfort were just what was needed
It was a particularly busy night for the restaurant and so the service was quite slow. Rooms were a bit corporate.
The staff were lovely and the location was excellent. The place was clean inside and I loved that my pet had a welcome package!
The bed was like sleeping on wood! It was so solid. A friend of mine was also staying there in another room - both of us agreed that the rooms weren't value for money - really overpriced for what you get. I've stayed in hotels for the same amount of money which have had spa baths, four poster beds, lake views and dog friendly rooms. This was just quite standard for what you pay, I was left really disappointed.
Lovely place, good food, Excellent staff. Very helpful. We would go again.
The coffee was awful, but you can't have everything.
They got our booking for about 18 people a bit mixed up.
Stayed three times and deterioted each time with price going up
Breakfast was very good but was expected at the price paid
dinner was extremely poor especially the main course which had too many onions in it and most seemed to be pickled onions from a jar!!! The meal was game and beef bourgeon and contained bacon which is neither game or beef !!! The waiter was over attentive and continually attempted to get us to order more drinks. Never again.
The decor is lacking in any charm. The front if the building us beautiful it is a shame the extension to the building wasn't done more tastefully. Very over priced for what you get. Regretted booking here the moment we got to reception.
Very comfortable and great for may partner who is disabled. The parking was close to the entrance and the room on the level with lots of space. Alfriston is a great place too.
I thought Breakfast could be better. I don't like food sitting around in hot plates. It seems much more special if individually served and if you can choose crispy bacon. Also it is nice to be offered fresh fruits and berries
location ease of booking checking in and out
room had cobwebs desk light didn't work two cups one saucer difficult to get a cool shower no food available on arrival due to wedding
The staff were very helpful. The room was very comfortable and clean.
The vegetables served with the dinner were very hard, which was a shame, as the rest of the meal was good.
the location in relation to the wedding venue.
the bathroom. in such small a space, a shower would suffice.
