We were here to film a wedding and were very well looked after by the staff, whilst the rooms were average rooms, the venue is beautiful and clearly has a lot of history.
Rooms were average but the venue, history and environment made up for it.
Put stay was a birthday treat for my partner, as it was so close to the beautiful cuckmere haven. The room was lovely, situated in the older part of the building, so full of character. Food in the restaurant was amazing and extremely filling! Couldn't manage desert sadly. We will definitely be visiting again!
The room was uncomfortably cold and the bathroom was icy, despite the radiator being on. Also we were next to a staircase used by the waiting staff for bringing up food to an event which was very noisy till late and again very early in the morning.
The place in the center of the village Nice hotel
The bed very narrow The breakfast was charged even if we didn't have it
Location and breakfast were great, attentive and helpful staff.
Room in the 1960s extension was antiquated and had that library/village hall type of aroma. Felt like it would be perfect for a bargain hunting pensioner. Should have been more diligent.
village was superb with character and style
bathroom a.bit bijou
The food and location in particular.
Bed was sunken and very creaky, and the corridor floor need replacing. Otherwise great stay
Very dog friendly. Staff very helpful and friendly.
bed moves when you sit up. A very small point but irritating when want to sit in bed and watch tv.
Staff attentiveness and family atmosphere
Slow breakfast service on second morning, obviously due to only one waiter to cover an influx of guests. Need to sort out staffing levels if guest levels increase.
The bar areas that are in the old parts of the building are lovely - as is the frontage onto the high street.
The rear of the Star does not quite match the lovely frontage, which is a shame.
Lack of atmosphere as primary use wedding venue. Food at breakfast could be improved
Being a hiker, I look forward to a good nights rest in a quite and comfortable hotel. The Star Alfriston was just the perfect place for me. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay at an independent hotel, which quite different from the usual chain hotel operations.
Location of hotel. Helpful staff. Excellent Breakfast.
Room needed to be redecorated. Wallpaper coming off wall. Restaurant/Bar meals pricey.
Beautiful building - the oldest in Alfriston. Warming open fire in bar area. Dogs allowed in bar area. Good all you can eat breakfast.
Friendly and helpful staff, at all hours. Very good buffet breakfast. Excellent location and parking is an absolute bonus.
Decor was a little tired and somewhat dated.
Location, staff and ambiance were all excellent.
Dinner in restaurant was good rather than excellent. Quite expensive for what it was
The facade was splendid but around the back where the rooms were located was like a B Grade Motel complex
Comfortable room, pleasant location, historic building
Smoking area in car park created excessive noise for our bedroom, breakfast no more than adequate. Overpriced for the quality of the accommodation.
Relaxed atmosphere. Staff tried hard, very pleasant. Receptionist very helpful with problem with bath & shower, partly rectifying it herself.
Training of new chef made a 45 minute wait for dinner rather trying. Scalding hot water in bathroom dangerous.
Staff very friendly and efficient. Comfortable room and pleasant public areas, particularly the bar. Excellent evening meal in the restaurant.
Breakfast was disappointing quality (particularly as we had a lovely evening meal on the previous night). Staff did not know any details about public transport in the area. I resented the fact that there was a 2% surcharge on credit card payment for accommodation: surely this is not the norm. It would potentially put me off if there were other options available.
The bedroom and the staff
Price was a bit steep on that particular occasion.
The location was ideal for us as we were attending a wedding in Eastbourne. Have stayed in Alfreston before but at a hotel across the road. Hotel was big, plenty of rooms, and most importantly available on the date we wanted.
We were not informed that our written request via booking.com for a noon check in would incur a fee of £15! they also charge 2.5% on credit card payments./ Breakfast adequate but choice uninspiring.
nothing special and expensive for B&B, water issues too hot, not an easy cool water adaptation
Location Half-timbered frontage Nice bar area Hanging baskets Staff Good sized room Breakfast
Some tired decor Plumbing in bathroom Armchairs comfy but threadbare
Lovely village. Pleasant bar area
The star was a real old pub with character, food was good and friendly staff.
