We Booked this hotel because it had free Wifi throughout the hotel on the web site, and was in a convenient location, however when we checked in we were told that our room did not have internet access, so I told them of my dissapointment and they promptly moved us to another room which did have, very efficient service, for which I thanked them, the food in the hotel was excellent and as a stopever hotel or to explore the region would recomend it.

Fine hotel. Warm and cozy rooms. Very clear. The magnificent personnel. I think, very small price for so good conditions. Wi-fi works only in foyer and a bar. Also often there are faults in work of a cellular network.

We have stopped at the Hotel before and liked it the first time so when we traveld up to the Orkneys this time we stopped again at the castletown hotel. As it is in the ideal posistion to get on to the Scrabster./ Gill bays Ferry portsThe staff are exelent and the food is wholesome and well prepaired. So I would not hasitate to stop at the Castletown hotel again. So I would score this hotel 9 out of 10 the good all round service that the hotel and staff provide

We found the staff to be cheerful and very helpful - they are trying very hard and succeeding well in the important things - despite the fact that they are able only to be gradually improve the hotel's facilities.Strongly recommended.

The food was very good and well priced. The room had plenty of storage for three people and we could control the heating. Our room slept three people - in the bathroom there was one tiny towel rail, no shelves and no hooks. Would be a nightmare for a family. Had to search the room for a socket to plug the kettle in safely

The bed was very comfortable and the food in the restaurant was amazing!! The room had an unpleasant smell when we arrived. The weather was terrible and as a result the window in our room leaked, unfortunately all over one of our bags. The staff were very unsympathetic and there was no apology offered, which left us with negative feelings towards the hotel, despite everything else being good.

This is an old fashioned hotel which is at the value end of the spectrum. The hotel is pretty 60's with rather old fashioned bathroom and tiny shower. I found the staff were very friendly and worked hard at keeping their clients happy. Given the price of the room, the facilities were okay.

Friendly helpful staff. I was visiting friends and the location was perfect for me. Hand held shower only available. Corridors to rooms very narrow,. Room very hot but unable to open windows as they seemed locked which I considered a fire hazard.

Great little family run hotel with friendly helpful staff. Excellent food is served in the lounge at reasonable prices. Fine traditional cooked breakfast with good selection of healthier options, cereals, fruits and yogurts. Small Public bar is fine for a beer and chat with the locals. the room I had was on the small side and in need of a bit of a makeover. Its only opening window was at a hight that made it dificult to reach. The shower room extraction fan was very noisy and remained on for about 10 mins after switching off. However the room was clean and serviced to a high standard and I slept well in a very comfortable bed.

Centrally located. Value for money. Bar food good. Large & comfortable bed. Bathroom not maintained - shower thermostat faulty & very hot, dripping taps. No toilet roll & none forthcoming after a request?! Breakfast - probably good if early - not so when under lights for a couple of hours.

This hotel was excellent value for money. The town seemed to have nothing in it, and although I ate in the hotel and the meal was nice, there really was not any other choice. Staff also seemed to have far too much to do, and were rushing around everywhere. From checking in, to ordering a meal, to check out in the morning, I always had to look around the hotel for a member of staff as their was never anyone where you would expect to find them; (but they were very nice and helpful when you found them.)

For just £25 I can't complain! The hotel is a typical example of its type - an old coaching inn that has been extended some time in the last 30 years and serves as a sort of social centre for the town. A bit rundown and do not expect 5* luxury - but everything worked, the kingsize bed was comfortable and the room was warm. Highlight was the huge carvery meal (I arrived after the official restaurant closing time but the manager nipped into the kitchen and plated up a very tasty selection of meats and proper veggies). In the morning - I needed some water for my "camelback" - so I got invited into the kitchen - spotless and well organised (I am a trained food handler). Ideally located for the Gills Bay ferry - just 15 minutes drive along the coast. Just minor - getting attention in reception took a while - but I was one of only 3 guests so reception was unmanned. The senior staff are great - the junior staff are small town teenagers - be understanding!
