The decor in the hotel is pleasant and although the furniture is showing signs of wear it is of good quality. When I arrived at 11.15pm the night porter was not there. It took 15 minutes to find him - huffing and puffing with bags of towels and dripping with sweat. He was rude and ignorant when giving me my key. The hotel was noisy and little sleep was had. The jacuzzi wasn't working, my breakfast although requested earlier arrived later and without OJ - kind of standard on a full breakfast! In summary it was mainly the attitude of staff that was lacking and attention to detail. You certianly know you're not in a city but in a rural area when you stay here - don't have high expectations.

All we can say is the hotel was adequate We did not like the over powering heat in the room (no fan or air conditioning) No face cloths in the bathroom. We were there when it was beautiful weather and believe it or not the radiator for the towels was left on, everytime we came back from a day out, this made the room even hotter, you opened the windows but there was little breeze coming in to cool the room down. Too heavy duvet on the bed for hot sticky nights, a tog rating of 4.5 would be better for summer as there is no air conditoning. There is no luxury to this hotel. We went to book an evening meal in the small restaurant one evening and were told they were too busy. I would have thought that residents to the hotel would always get a table but unfortunately not. We did go to another hotel that evening and were treated to better service even though we were none residents.

Staff excellent, leisure facitities would have been good if working breakfast excellent Steam room and jacuzzi not working on first day of visit, pool out of order second day, perhaps we were unlucky. Dinner presentation and food pretentious, trying to be something it isn't room small and ensuite in need of update

Its location close to the beach. The internal decor. The bedrooms are cramped and not soundproofed from the room above resulting in a disturbed night's sleep

Friendly staff with some shining stars but the individual shift teams could be inconsistent with their professionalism. Slightly overpriced and not entirely open and honest about the room descriptors. Spa far too busy as it has a gym that has outside membership which seems to take precedence over hotel guests. Dinner menu overpriced. Generally 'nice' hotel with clever styling. Could be improved considerably.

Having been there before I was actually disappointed. The restaurant was fantastic for his fish and it is now all changed. I was not impressed by the new restaurant or food. The hotel has become a venue for weddings and corporate functions. Its no longer a very cosy personal hotel. The room did not reflect the price we paid.

The rooms were nicely done out, the staff on reception friendly The breakfast service did not clear the plates fast enough and the bedrooms should have bottled water and a mirror near a plug.

The restaurant was very good and good value. Staff young and polite. Location was excellent for town centre. Room was nice but had poor air quality and window overlooked neighbours balcony. No water in room, staff said tap water was drinkable but not good enough for four star rating. Should have been advised to book treatments before travel as none available on day of spa day.

Vey pleasant staff, lovely light decor very relaxing, great location and sea views. Good food. The outside patio lets the hotel down. The loungers and cushions all need replacing. The whole area could be made more welcoming. The sound proofing in bedrooms is almost non-existent. You can hear noise, above, below and in the corridoors. I do not think this is due to over noisey guests in our experience. I would recommend the hotel to others but with a warning re risk of noise in bedrooms

Location close to beach. The evening meal was good value. Breakfast was not exceptional. Car parking is difficult when they have functions, but they were very helpful in finding us a space on the road, and a memebr of staff moved their car so we could park closer to the hotel.

Breakfast was fine, some good options to order, E.G. smoked haddock was nice. We booked 2 rooms. When we got into the rooms it was quite warm. We found an a/c unit in one room but not the other so we asked for the 2nd room to be changed to one with a/C. The staff started by telling us none of the rooms had a/c, then after we said the 1st room had one, they changed to say that the 1st one was the only one with a/c in the whole building - really doubt it. Not the most helpful start.

This hotel is in a splendid position, looking down through attractive and well kept, tiered gardens to the sea. The staff were welcoming, courteous and very helpful. Although expensive, the food in the dining room was of very high quality, and the service outstanding. There was an extensive choice of breakfast, and service was again welcoming and helpful. The public rooms are attractive and spacious; and the Spa and pool are extremely well maintained. We made use of these facilities on each day of our stay at different times. They were never overcrowded whilst we were there. If they had been, there were ample staff on hand. However, we were disappointed in the size of our double room. It was far too small for more than an overnight stay only, had no 'fridge and was poorly insulated. On our last night we were kept awake by persistent snoring from an adjoining room ! It also smelt musty and damp unless the windows in both the bedroom and bathroom were kept open.Whilst it was clean, comfortable ( apart from being cramped ), and well furnished, we felt that we were entitled to expect more for the price charged and for an hotel of this purported quality. Also, although we could just view the sea, it was a partial view only and we believe that some guests might feel misled by the description " sea view ". Having said all that, these were irritations rather than major problems, and we had a very enjoyable stay. With the caveat as to the small size of the room, we would recommend the hotel to others. Small size of our double room; poor insulation of room; musty smell when windows and door had been kept shut for any length of time.

staff were excellent. very professional. car park was over crowded. car park outside the captains house is in dire need of repair. Shower has very little power. Stains on carpet in bedroom (however the room was clean). Worst thing about my stay was the breakfast buffet. Eggs were brick hard, bacon very fatty and greasy, and not a big selection.

Our stay was only marred by the use of water saving heads on the shower and basins which is an excellent move, however the pipes howl under pressure when the water is turned on, so whilst you were lying a sleep you can hear the person above or in the next room getting a glass of water at night or filling the kettle at 6am.

The Location, the service was excellent, public rooms are lovely, the hotel has a great relaxed "feel" about it. The room was very small for the price paid(a very marginal sea view!),our first nights meal was very poor, alot of other guests where complaining also, in fact we ate out for two nights because of this.

The location The pool was dirty- full of hair and bits floating around. On arrival at 3pm we were told we couldn't use the pool and facilities as they were full due to non guests of the hotel being allowed to use the facilities too. I was livid and spoke to the manager who said I had to wait until there was space. I waited 40 mins- I was not happy at all. No drinks were even offered to us while we waited- the pool was full of kids splashing and screaming and was not very relaxing. Very dissapointing- I don't know why the pool isn't closed to non residents from 3pm onwards when they can check into their rooms.

The food was excellent and there was a very pleasant ambience in the lounge areas. Staff were veryfriendly and attentive to our needs Our room was claustrophobic due to a low overhead beam and little natural daylight. The noise of the air conditioning disturbed our sleep

The bar was nicely done and the spa was satisfactory. Rooms varied considerably. (I booked 3 in all) Breakfast was ok. Beds were comfortable. No dressing gowns in some rooms, even on request, some small rooms (allocated, it seems, on arrival, rather than when booking), insufficient toiletries, no wifi in Captain's House. Definitely not the luxury hotel it is made out to be.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and its surroundings are lovely with a very short walk to the beach and a short walk to the town centre. The room we stayed in this time was a little smaller but pleasant as had a small terrace. Breakfast was lovely. Was noisy with neighbouring doors banging!

The pool Sauna and general public spaces were excellent. Reception staff were very nice. Rooms were very small. Staff in the restaurant for the evening meal did not seem to understand what was on the Menu, and in the morning for breakfast the staff were awful in service. I think this hotel is failing in what it is trying to deliver due to front of house staff. Food was good though.

The staff were very friendly and most helpful. Parking is very difficult as the facilities are open to the public and the place is always busy, I had to circle the place 8 times one evening before finally managing to find a space in one of the small surrounding roads. The room had a faulty shower and was very stuffy as you could not turn off the towel rail in the bathroom.
