The rooms are great, the service is usually excellent.
language problems with waitress serving breakfast. I had asked for no haggis and just the sausage, she then omitted both! I then had to wait a long time and ask several times to receive my sausage in the cooked breakfast which I had finished.
Breakfast is really one of the best I have had, and I travel every week. Room had just been refurbished and was really excellent.
Choice of bar food is very limited. Heating in Garden rooms is far too hot.
Stood in bath, had to bend as head hit the ceiling. No socket or mirror near by to plug in the supplied hair dryer? Service at Breakfast non existent Management at breakfast non exist ant Waiting over an hourt for sausage and beacon. The price
I liked the location, the main house looked lovely from the outside, lovely grounds, staff were all smiles, accommodating for our late breakfast arrival, ipod dock was a nice touch, Under floor heating in the bathroom, heating and air con was nice.
My room was outside, for dinner and breakfast i had to put on my coat and walk in the cold, the building needs a bit of a refurb, telephone in my room didn't work, no one at reception when we got there, waited a few minutes, eggs benedict for breakfast was cut up ham and not bacon,
Restaurant Decor Location Grounds
Thin walls, sound proofing terrible. Food not as high quality as would have expected but still good.
couldn't get internet
Capability Brown designed grounds. Elegant hotel.
Traffic noise in Garden View room. Excessively hot room with little ventilation (although air conditioning in room but noisy at night)
Beautiful location and property (make sure you sleep in the house!) Good value Breakfast was incredible! Red lion pub nearby (good food)
Rooms not soundproof Supper at the house is very expensive
The room was comfortable and restaurant and breakfast was very good
As it was just one night we did not complain, but the cold water came out hot, and the shower was only warm.
Cutlery and teapot dirty and dusty for afternoon tea. In garden room no stops on double glazed windows which were ridiculously heavy. As I went to open the window it slammed down catching a finger which resulted in severe bruise and discomfort . It was mentioned at the hotel .
Helpfulness of staff
Occasional lack of attention to allergy requirements
On arrival the welcome was very good. The booking in was easy and seemless, we were escorted to our room, rather than just being left to find our own way there. The decor and facilities were very good and there was a good range of products in the bathroom. We were staying here because of its proximity to stoke park (open air concert) so we ate here before leaving for the concert, we were told we couldn't eat in the dining room as it was only for afternoon tea. The coffee for breakfast was delicious.
I was quite surprised to see a lot of dust on the dado rails and skirting boards in our room, also the carpet on the stairs and near our room looked as if it needed a Hoover, it was only 3 pm in the afternoon. There were also paint stains on the carpet at the top of the stairs. When arriving back from the concert we were a little peckish but were told the only room service available was a bowl of soup. At breakfast the next morning we were asked if we wanted anything off the hot menu, we both chose porridge but were a little surprised we couldn't have anything else I.e. Bacon and eggs, there were lots of other things available such as yogurts, fruit, pastries. Also in the room there was a box with tea and coffee but no biscuits and only a few milk cartons. All in all for the money charged for bed and breakfast per night I would have thought there would have been a little more of a choice.
A great hotel which made my short stay very comfortable
The staff were so helpful. We needed to leave very early in the morning and they arranged a beautiful breakfast in our room ahead of the official breakfast availability; it was delicious, hot and much appreciated. Wifi very good everywhere and free. Gardens beautiful. Everyone tried so hard to make our stay so good. Definitely returning.
Absolutely nothing to complain about.
Staff took so long to serve drinks and had to be reminded several times. Room v small. Expensive room for what you got.
Service not great- kept waiting at reception, then at bar then waiting for restaurant
Great location, room decor and space.
Staff can be more friendly, I was asked to come down to reception and return a pack of matches I had borrowed earlier. You would expect that they would come and collect it from room given its a 5 star hotel. Shower knobs were broken and it was mere lack of attention to detail that it wasn't fixed before we checked-in.
Location & Grounds
no late bar, garden view room at top of hotel a little cramped.
Location and good parking
In need of a refurb as very run down. Lots of things broken, chipped and shabby. Very noise
Relaxed environment and good food.
No communalTV facilities - i.e. tele in the bar to watch the football.
Room in attic too small No lift and several flights of stairs Smell in bathroom with light/fan on Sloping walls in bedroom - careful with your head!!
The main building is lovely. Saw one of the suites - beautiful. The breakfast was tasty and served in a great bright and airy room. The staff were very good about serving us quite late - the morning after a wedding.
Our room was like a cabin, separate to the hotel. The walls were ridiculously thin so could hear the person next door snoring. The room was booking hot the day we arrived and freezing cold the next. The bed, bathroom, etc all looked v nice but on closer inspection you could see that the fittings were all a bit shoddy. I wish I'd have spent a little less and stayed in the main house.
The Bar food was not great. The additional service charges added were not clearly advertised and not warranted!
Location to London (only 45 mins from our house) Excellent Food Larger refurbished rooms/suites are very nice (booked to go again already)
Gym very small & not in main house Standard rooms on the small side No Spa
The food was excellent Breakfast was small but with a high quality A must is having dinner there!
The bar is not that nice, no draft beer
