The room was comfortable and restaurant and breakfast was very good
As it was just one night we did not complain, but the cold water came out hot, and the shower was only warm.
Cutlery and teapot dirty and dusty for afternoon tea. In garden room no stops on double glazed windows which were ridiculously heavy. As I went to open the window it slammed down catching a finger which resulted in severe bruise and discomfort . It was mentioned at the hotel .
Helpfulness of staff
Occasional lack of attention to allergy requirements
On arrival the welcome was very good. The booking in was easy and seemless, we were escorted to our room, rather than just being left to find our own way there. The decor and facilities were very good and there was a good range of products in the bathroom. We were staying here because of its proximity to stoke park (open air concert) so we ate here before leaving for the concert, we were told we couldn't eat in the dining room as it was only for afternoon tea. The coffee for breakfast was delicious.
I was quite surprised to see a lot of dust on the dado rails and skirting boards in our room, also the carpet on the stairs and near our room looked as if it needed a Hoover, it was only 3 pm in the afternoon. There were also paint stains on the carpet at the top of the stairs. When arriving back from the concert we were a little peckish but were told the only room service available was a bowl of soup. At breakfast the next morning we were asked if we wanted anything off the hot menu, we both chose porridge but were a little surprised we couldn't have anything else I.e. Bacon and eggs, there were lots of other things available such as yogurts, fruit, pastries. Also in the room there was a box with tea and coffee but no biscuits and only a few milk cartons. All in all for the money charged for bed and breakfast per night I would have thought there would have been a little more of a choice.
A great hotel which made my short stay very comfortable
The staff were so helpful. We needed to leave very early in the morning and they arranged a beautiful breakfast in our room ahead of the official breakfast availability; it was delicious, hot and much appreciated. Wifi very good everywhere and free. Gardens beautiful. Everyone tried so hard to make our stay so good. Definitely returning.
Absolutely nothing to complain about.
Staff took so long to serve drinks and had to be reminded several times. Room v small. Expensive room for what you got.
Service not great- kept waiting at reception, then at bar then waiting for restaurant
Great location, room decor and space.
Staff can be more friendly, I was asked to come down to reception and return a pack of matches I had borrowed earlier. You would expect that they would come and collect it from room given its a 5 star hotel. Shower knobs were broken and it was mere lack of attention to detail that it wasn't fixed before we checked-in.
Location & Grounds
no late bar, garden view room at top of hotel a little cramped.
Location and good parking
In need of a refurb as very run down. Lots of things broken, chipped and shabby. Very noise
Relaxed environment and good food.
No communalTV facilities - i.e. tele in the bar to watch the football.
Room in attic too small No lift and several flights of stairs Smell in bathroom with light/fan on Sloping walls in bedroom - careful with your head!!
The main building is lovely. Saw one of the suites - beautiful. The breakfast was tasty and served in a great bright and airy room. The staff were very good about serving us quite late - the morning after a wedding.
Our room was like a cabin, separate to the hotel. The walls were ridiculously thin so could hear the person next door snoring. The room was booking hot the day we arrived and freezing cold the next. The bed, bathroom, etc all looked v nice but on closer inspection you could see that the fittings were all a bit shoddy. I wish I'd have spent a little less and stayed in the main house.
The Bar food was not great. The additional service charges added were not clearly advertised and not warranted!
Location to London (only 45 mins from our house) Excellent Food Larger refurbished rooms/suites are very nice (booked to go again already)
Gym very small & not in main house Standard rooms on the small side No Spa
The food was excellent Breakfast was small but with a high quality A must is having dinner there!
The bar is not that nice, no draft beer
Everything. This place is a pure gem.
The wine was nice!
The order I placed for evening meal was incomplete - the member of staff who served my meal didn't seem to fully acknowledge this despite the fact she was the one who took my original order. There was no wifi for the duration of our stay - I logged a complaint but nobody came back to me with any updates. The food was poor - far less than I would expect for a 4* establishment - having made an error on my evening meal, they made an error with my order at breakfast too. The staff in general are not very attentive give it's a 4* I would expect new guest to the bar or dining area to be acknowledged rather than me having to seek someone out a number of times to be served. Whilst in my room and getting changed, a chambermaid entered the room without knocking which was very embarrassing (more so for her I expect). The last 2 times I've stayed, there has been no standard teabags in the room, only Early Grey and others - standard error! Given I would expect a 4* to be aiming to be awarded a 5*, this hotel falls far from 4* standard in other hotels and staff need to be trained on the art of pre-empting clients needs - it all seems a bit of an effort. Poor show.
The location and grounds near perfect Hotel is a beautiful building. About £100 cheaper than nearby Stoke Park but still quite expensive.
Bedroom was very small and almost impossible to walk around the bed without either hitting your head on wall TV or knocking your ankle on bedstead. Ridiculous decoration in some halls e.g. empty picture frames displaying more empty frames - it lost me!
The bed was big and comfy, the place is very pretty and everything is well decorated. The cottage room was lovely, especially been located away from the main building.
The room was not as clean as you'd expect for the money you spend, we found someones old sock and rubbish and also leaves from outside and dust between carpet and wall. We then had no hot water to which the receptionist told us we had to run the tap in the hand basin for 5 mins to get the hot water through as its a hot building. Eventually they called for the maintenance guy who was actually off-site in Maidenhead and so we had to wait for him to travel in to sort the boiler out and also fix the 2 bedside lamps which did not work (1 of which had broken again by morning). The staff seemed quite rude and unwelcoming, when first entering the main building to check in we were met by a group of staff members which seems quite intimidating and un-personal. Breakfast in the morning was again very disappointing, we ordered treacle bacon on french toast which looked like a McDonalds breakfast when it came out. The building inside and out is amazing, and it is such a let down.
Breakfast and breakfast area Location
Garden rooms were small and the heating did not work (Rm 49) I did inform the staff twice! I became ill for 3 days after my stay due to the cold The gym was icy cold Outside walk in the cold from garden room to gym/breakfast room/reception
Staff, atmosphere, quality of room, lots of quality extras, free parking, very pleasantly suprised. Felt like an authentic country hotel.
comfortable, clean and warm. The gardens and river look great. Shame i did not get time to explore them.
The walk up to the attic room (number 24) where i stayed. Steep stairs! Also managed to crack my knee on the metal frame bed in the middle of the night. Painful!
This was my first time at Stoke Place and I was fairly disappointed. Room 17 on the 12th Nov saw no towels in my room - I had to dry myself with my dressing gown as of course I only spotted there were no towels after I had a shower. So...the shower.....having had to wash with just a small bar of soap as there was no shower gel or body wash (a basic requirement surely) was a head over a bath with no shower curtain and a ceiling so low I could not stand upright - I had to crouch and try to avoid spilling water all over the floor. The room was stiflingly hot and although I could turn the radiator down, the person who turned my bed down, would have spotted immediately that it was far, far too hot even for those who feel the cold. In the evening, we ventured out to the Red Lion, twice my collegues twisted her ankle on pot holes in the driveway. The following day, we had to go and ask for someone to take our breakfast order as there were no staff in the dining room. I am back with you as part of a corporate group on the 25th November and really hopethat my 2nd visit will be more relaxing.
