This hotel is my idea of what a good hotel should be.
Wifi reception was very poor in my room, but worked well in the drawing room and lounge.
Loved the location and surroundings.
Unfortunately our room had a connecting door to room next door, We could hear every word the couple next door were saying, We did ask for a change of room but nothing was available. On the Saturday we decided to go to our room for a but of a rest before dinner, However there was some renovations going on and we could not hear ourselves think let alone have a nap so we ended going for a coffee instead which was nice but we eld hve liked to enjoy in the comfort of our room.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, food and service were excellent. Our two small terriers stayed with us and there were lots of lovely walks around the hotel and plenty of opportunities to take photos of the lovely views. Also liked the old traditional style of hotel.
Could do with some redecoration particularly in corridors and bathrooms there were some cracked tiles and chipped/flaky paint. It didn't spoil my stay but some people might be put off.
I thought the staff were very good and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
the driveway up to the hotel needs repairing( pot holes) and the rooms could do with a spruce up.
Food was excellent, rooms lovely and clean. Great walks on the doorstep, and quiet
The bed, matress was sunk in the middle, there was woodchip on the walls and the TV was needing updated
Lots of space to sit and relax in the library, bar and by the fire in the reception. Food was very good as was the service.
The welcome and friendliness of the staff. The surroundings of the hotel.
No front exterior lighting in hours of darkness, especially from September onwards.
Enjoyed 3 night stay, excellent food and very comfortable. Happy to have our dog. Staff helpful, would stay again
Computer not working when we checked out, paid cash and did not receive a receipt they said they would email it to me, still waiting 5days later
Lovely setting and great building.
Finishes were tired and worn. Sealant around bath was dirty and large gaps. Food was expensive for what you got. Wifi was terrible.
Nice view from breakfast area
The breakfast was cold. Staff were fairly rude when I told them and just grilled it meaning it was dry. The place smelled of damp and needs renovating. There were few facilities for a four star hotel and the shower scalded me as it changes temperature. This is very dangerous. This was reported to receptionist.
Very big room Location Terrific views
Shame the menu was the same for both days
The location of the hotel is great. Food and staff very good even the local dog was good fun. Dining room has superb views over the grounds and gardens. Had a minor problem with some pipes which were noisy but this was immediately inspected and the problem was solve in quick time.
Our room in the extended part of the hotel was a little tired. The bathroom could also do with a freshen up as in some area the wall paper was coming away from the walls.
The staff, five star cuisine and friendly atmosphere in this unique hotel combined with its tranquil gardens and wonderful views all added to the enjoyment of our visit. Our bedroom was clean and comfortable. The panoramic view in the dining room was awesome while the bar, library and snooker room ensured that guests could relax in a warm, friendly atmosphere. An added bonus is that dogs are welcome. A special mention of Ann, the manageress who does a sterling job with her warm friendly manner and attentiveness to the needs of her guests.
Lovely location with woodland garden to walk around down to the loch - quite a romantic place Lots of old character in the place - lovely dining room overlooking the loch - quiet reading rooms Could not fault the food and the dining room staff were very good
The place just needs a lick of paint here and there - it would smarten the place up and then I would have given it excellent.
The hotel accepts dogs
The room needed some TLC on paintwork and grouting. Lighting in the public areas was just too dark. Bar meals were very overpriced for what it was....particularly the creme brûlée!
Staff great food great and able to take the dog, weather perfect .
Shower poor temp control and too powerful. invest in mira shower thermostatic valves to stop temp fluctuation.
Wonderful friendly staff Great setting Great social spaces Atmospheric building Nice food especially the Langoustines Lovely spacious room Peaceful
Wine a bit pricey A jacuzzi or hot tub would have made it perfect!
Loved the decor, the bedrooms were large and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very nice.
There was nothing to dislike
Beautiful location, plenty of well furnished common area, best dinner of our 18day trip in tne dining room.
Although the rooms were a little worn, I think it added to the experience. I didn't expect up to date conditions in this type of place. But the beds were comfortable, bathrooms clean and well furnished.
food ,staff,location.views,well stocked bar
large bedroom but could do with a little tlc
Views & location were lovely. Staff was friendly & efficient. Food was good too. Would stay again
Decor a bit tired but refurbishment is scheduled. However, it would not put us off staying again. Lack of Wifi signal
very romantic, lovely garden and surroundings, very comfy and cosy castle with crackling fireplaces, and amazing food.
Our room was just above the breakfast room which underwent some refurbishment of the roof, so we had workers in front of our windows on our first days, but other than that splendid stay.
The view and the service was exceptional.
The Wi-Fi was very slow.
Great views and location excellent for exploring Kintyre and Islands (We loved Arran). Great selection at breakfast, staff very accommodating. Lounge and bar gave the right Scottish ambience and tradition; check out the chandelier in bar.
Lift archaic and tempermental (if doors were not closed on other floors). Bar small but very comfortable. Tarbert is a small pleasant fishing village, but eateries there very limited. Not much to do apart from walking
