The staff was excellent - very friendly and helpful. The setting was tranquil and breathtaking beautiful. The food was fantastic.

The rooms was very warm during the night, a fan or AC unit would have been great. No small bar fridge to keep medicines or water cool.

Setting. View from restaurant and patio. Restaurant menu. Public rooms.

We personally prefer blankets to duvet so that we can adjust the temperature to our liking.

Amazing food and waiting staff. Good bar and reception rooms.

Lack of hotel staff at Reception to greet us, we waited a while, not hugely warm welcome. Our key wouldn't open the room.

A lovely castle in fantastic surroundings. The restaurant offered a exiting menu and the dinng room is situated with a lovely view over the loch. Excellent base for exploring Islay from a whisky perspective. The range in the bar included several interesting varities.

Unequable service in the restaurant. The front desk could be more creative in supporting arrangements.Castle garden is an untrimmed diamant with huge potential of developmenst.

The hotel is located in a wonderful park on the shores of Loch Fyne just off the A83 (Tarbert). From the restaurant you have a wonderful view. The food was very good, and the public rooms are stunning. Finally, staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in the more recently (1978) added part of the hotel which would benefit from a refurb. Wifi, perhaps due to the thick walls, wasn't stable in the room.

Location and public rooms. Very helpful and attentive restaurant staff. Plenty of hot water and effective over bath shower. Free wi-fi and telephone.

Bedrooms dark and in need of refurbishment - or at least brighter lighting. Very hard, sagging and uncomfortable beds.

The service & dinner were very good, as were the views.

The "superior room" was very dated in its furnishings and facilities. The bed was not comfortable either. "Has character" & "bespoke" are not an excuse for not updating rooms.

Fabulous setting overlooking the loch, and convenient for Tarbert and Kennacraig ferries. Breakfast was excellent, and staff were attentive.

Needs a renovation, and an elevator. Room was gloomy and had a tiny TV

Undergoing some needed renovation which will make it that much better Restaurant staff willing but lacks training and skils

Wonderful location. Excellent value. Excellent staff especially young man at reception.

Beginning to look rather tired. Rather heavy and dark furnishings and soft furnishings. Vases of fresh flowers would have helped. The front door-- far from fitting for a castle and it did not fit !!!

Loved the ambience and the grandeur especially the public areas. The rooms in the old section are recommended when booking to get a feel of bygone days. Don't expect the rooms to be modern, if you do you have missed the point. Dinner in the resturant was a highlight and should not be missed.

The waiting staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble Lovely view from the dinning room

Wifi access /reception poor Room was too warm (was warm outside) fan would have helped Could have had a warmer reception from the manageress, and she could have been more helpful

Exquisite location; friendly staff; grand old building with library, drawing room, large patio, comfortable bar, and a dining room with a view as magnificent as one deserves.

The bed rather firm for my liking, the wi-fi was patchy, and when the folk upstairs used the bathroom at night it woke me up, but the only significant disappointment was the absence of any real vegetarian meal options at dinner - though at breakfast there was an unusual vegetarian sausage on offer. However, the kitchen made an effort and we did not go to bed hungry.

    Scenery beautiful lovely location.

Not quite 4 star rooms are dated and in need of modernising/decorating. Staff in dining room slow to replenish fruits etc and needed to be prompted to refill. Scrambled eggs rubbery and cold on arrival at the table. (they were on a very hot plate though!)

The location and grounds are wonderful. The restaurant, bar and lounges are spacious and comfortable and have fantastic views.

Dinner in restaurant was overpriced and pretentious. Poor value.

Nothing it was raining. Could not see anything.

The building needs major renovations in the sleeping quarters. Except for the manager, the staff was below par. I personally would not recommend to anybody I know. Sorry
