Score from 22 reviews Superb
Friendly welcome, beautiful English cottage property, good views, accessible walks and beach. Delicious breakfast spread.
Breakfast staff a bit slow and chatty... Toast came after the breakfast.
Quaint Tudor house with low beams and doorways. Welcoming hosts and staff. Excellent breakfast with wide choice of menu options
Bed had seen better days. WIFI signal only in lounge. Hazardous driveway off main road
We loved it - very cosy - beautifully decorated and furnished - fabulous sense of history - proprietors kind and helpful - more like a boutique hotel than a B and B.
Historical building, very comfortable bed, tastefully furnished room and sitting room, tasty breakfast.
Breakfast slightly on the small side, location: quite close to a busy road. From a hygiene point of view, I am not sure about the soap dispenser in the shower. Is the pump disiffected between guests?
Real character and the rooms where lovely and cosy and clean. The staff were amazing, very attentive and kind. Nothing a problem. Beautiful surroundings and first class food, evening meal was superb and breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend.
Nothing ... all good
floor height urges to bend your head all the time. The age of the building causes many discomforts.
everything, lovely cottage, great rooms and service.
close to road
This is a very pretty, characterful and historic property and so it is a real privilege to stay there. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxing.
On non-cooking nights one has to drive into Rye for a good choice of restaurants. The historic nature of the house brings some disadvantages in comfort issues.
Very charming old house; unusually good breakfast
Historic nature of the building; proximity to restaurants, international rail; beauty of countryside.
The Strand Hotel is in a wonderful location for easy access to Rye and Winchelsea. It's on the main road, but quiet inside so you feel like you're tucked away somewhere. There is a pathway the entire way along the road to Rye so it's walkable, but there are no street lights so it made for an interesting walk back that night. The room was pretty. The floor was VERY slanted, and the showerroom very small, but it had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. The team/coffee making facilities even have shortbread biscuits which is a nice touch. The afternoon tea was huge, there was so much to eat, so don't have lunch before you have it. The breakfast was delicious. They offer you a buffet cereal, fruit, juices etc, and then a cooked breakfast too with Tea and coffee and unlimited toast (or so it seemed). The breakfast room is clean and bright and looks loved. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The layout of the building is quirky, and the lounge area is cosy. We would definitely come back to stay here.
The welcome wasn't great - we stood for ages in the doorway waiting for someone and then although we'd arranged early checkin, the papers weren't ready. The afternoon tea took quite a while to come out, and then we weren't given the same options as the other guests at the table next to us. (They had a choice of cakes, where ours was just delivered - and the toffee cake was a bit dry, we would have preferred chocolate like the table next to us had.)
Lots of character, comfortable, looked after. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. Provision of dairy alternative was helpful and the breakfast was good.
Minor point, the toast from ordinary sliced brown bread wasn't great as opposed to all other ingredients which were very tasty
The personable and helpful owners, the Tudor house beautifully decorated with flair, the comfy bed and duvet, the quietness of the room, the lovely bathroom, and the great choice at breakfast time. The area has plenty to offer, and it was a good base for a mini-break.
Honesty bar Games Sitting rooms Toy sheep, fairies, etc. in garden
Home made baked beans with breakfast (sorry!)
All the staff were very warm & friendly & made us feel welcome from the start.
We loved the old, unspoiled house which has so much history I felt it the minute I walked in. We stayed for two nights and for one night we had the house to ourselves which was great. I would love to go at Christmas and just be waited on amongst all the period features and open fire (with maybe a ghost or two!)
Just that the shower room was very small, but a minor problem really.
The room was excellent. Great service and facilities. Definitely returning.
The wifi was poor
Staff and character rooms
Extra thick walls poor for wi fi!
The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. They were very good at giving information on places to visit and restaurants to go to.
The taxis in the area were a bit unreliable. Which is a bit of a pain when you are three miles away from your hotel.
My partner and I stayed on valentine night, on my arrival I was greeted by very friendly owner and was shown around our beautiful room. The room was so lovely and cosy, we were very impressed with the fine details of the room, from the throws to the lights, and all had been beautifully decorated. We loved the little heart sweets left everywhere, very cute. The place was lovely and warm – I could not fault the place. Tea and coffee and home made biscuits were lush(shame there wasn’t more) The view from our room was just want I thought it would be, this room and hotel is a must. We stayed for dinner and which was very well organized and the food was delicious. I would of like more choice of desserts. All the staff was very welcoming and so lovely. The service was what I would expect in this rated hotel.
The folder left in the room was missing a lovely coloured pitcure of the property at the front of the folder, this folder could be a fantastic selling point of the foods on offer and other services that the lovely place has to offer.
The room was very cosy, the bed was really comfortable (ensuring a good nights sleep!) and the 32" flat screen in the Master Room was a bonus. Really good breakfast offering lots of variety and you couldn't fault the staff, who were warm and friendly.
The house is very quaint and quirky with very low beams which is not very conducive to people over 5ft! My husband is 6ft 2in and he bashed his head a few times, as did I and I’m only 5ft 4in! Also, my husband could not use the shower as the height only just about accommodated myself and although we were offered another room for our second night, the room was so cosy that we couldn’t be bothered to change, but something to bear in mind when booking for more than 2 nights.
a charming house, good location, quaint quirky , comfortable and a good place to stay and visit the local area
We thought everything was really great - the historic house, with it's wonderful atmosphere, the lovely room with attractive furniture and beams, the wonderful breakfast (with very good fresh coffee) and the warm and helpful staff.
Absolutely wonderful thirteenth century converted work house. Incredible attention to detail and spotlessly clean. Delightful ownership and Hugh keeps bees on site. Great breakfast. Highly recommended
friendly owners homely
