Cosy traditional lake district pub. Owner and wife were very friendly and accomadating. Limited parking for residents as parking spaces used by pub visitors-needs allocated spaces for RESIDENTS ONLY to make residents feel more valued-especialy when you have travelled a long way to get there only to find nowhere to park.

The en-suite was amazing and the room itself had excellent storage. The staff were extremely friendly and the pub was fantastic. We stayed in the executive suite so i would have expected the bed to be abit larger and the TV was very small and the shower and bath werent always very hot.

The atmosphere/ambience. The friendly owners. Their own-brewed beer on sale in the hotel. Straightforward, no-nonsene well-cooked food. No wi-fi. Bath very slow to fill.

The food was good and the staff/owners were extremely hospitable. The room was draughty and in need of upgrading. The shower room was small, cold and unpleasant and the shower did not work properly. The linen did not fit the bed - hard to understand as it was a standard double.

the friendliness of the staff and locals and, of course, their own beers! would have liked more choice on the menu plus A choice of an 8oz gammon as well as A 16oz which was way too big for little me!

Lovely location; very friendly and helpful staff; excellent food; and wonderful beer!!! I stayed for 4 nights on a walking break with my son and would have loved to have stayed longer. Located off the beaten track in a quiet village close to the end of Wast Water - the Strands is a great base for a walking in and around unspoilt Wasdale. I would recommend the Strands to anyone looking for a quiet and comfortable base for a walking holiday in Cumbria. I will definitely be back!

The Strands is a lovely location in the wilds of Cumbria and nicely off the beaten track. The staff were friendly and helpful; the food was excellent and the breakfast really set you up for the day. There were 6 cask beers in the bar, all from the brewery on site and all good, especially the lighter ales. The free WiFi was an added bonus, as was the lack of mobile phone signal! All round, it was 4 days well spent and I would recommend The Strands to anyone wanting to walk, climb or just explore the area. Would I go back again? You bet!

Great location, a very short drive from Wast Water from where Scafel Pike can be climbed. Friendly and helpful owners and staff who were willing to give advice on what to do and where to visit. Cosy pub with good food and tasty beer brewed on site. The room (room 2) was comfortable. Would definitely recommend. Shampoo and shower gel in tiny sachets- best to bring your own. This is only a minor complaint as everything else about the stay was perfect.
