Connaught Lodge

The use of the hotel restaurant and leisure facilities and the provision of a superb and efficiently friendly breakfast service made up the very basic rooms. I like the informal lodge are as it allows people on a budget to stay which must also help the hotel business survive in a recession. I would sincerely hope that the prices remain accessable and the refurbishment planned for the lodge wing of the hotel does not lead to the whole hotel becoming too upmarket and elite.

The staff at the front desk on checking in did little to greet and welcome and seemed to assume we would automatically know how to find our way to the lodge entrance and only gave minimal instruction on how to enter through use of the card. There was no offer to assist or show in and our entry card was very temperamental. I got the feeling then of a two tier welcome - one for the hotel guests and quite another for the lodge. This would not encourage revisits by some guests although I feel happy to return provided the hotel continues to offer realistically prices accomodation.

It was ok but not a patch on the connaught hotel.

It would have been nice to have been informed, that the lodge was having badly needed work carried out on it. It is a very basic place. We felt like the poor relations staying in that place. We would not have stayed there if we had known the situation.

The night porter was welcoming and accomodating and got us drinks after the bar had closed. The chap who checked me out was pleasant. The breakfast staff were very welcoming.

The lodge building was very dated including the room - being partly refurbished and not up to assumed standard. The shower was very poor. I couldn't get any shower lotion so had to ask for a bar of soap. The reception to the TV was poor and only two channels were clear. There was an unwelcoming edge to the lady who checked me in.

Can't think of anything that I liked about the hotel, best thing about my stay was leaving early the next day.

The TV didnt work, the bathroom was too small, they were re-building the hotel, bed was uncomfortable and calls couldnt be put through to my room!!! Only thing they got right was booking my cab when I left! None of the faults were mentioned prior to booking, if they were then nobody would stay there

The Lodge rooms were very poor but the hotel did upgrade us to a better room in the main hotel for a premium. The restaurant staff were very helpfull

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The breakfast in particular was good.

We were only able to use the jacuzzi once for half an hour when staying there .

Most of the management were totally ignorant, reception staff only repeated senior management orders. The Connaught Lodge was having major refurbishment making it unusable for 4 nights of our stay. Last night of stay was spent in what was supposed to be our original room. Room good, bathroom facilities absolutely disgusting. I can supply photographs to back all of this up.

I only stayed at Connaught Lodge one night but found it comfortable and near to the city centre and the Pavillion Theatre. Staff were very helpful and polite and let me check in early.

I was with a female friend and allocated room 217. The bathroom has an opaque glass door which I can see was fitted to allow more light but is not very suitable, particularly when staying with a friend.

Good value for money. Separate room for children
