Its location - and the booking.com price! The breakfast was good, too. I know the price (£39) was good value but it irked me to have to pay £2.50 for using a credit card. That really is bad practice by the hotel. The carpeting in the hallways is in need of cleaning, and the shower in my room (165) needs a thorough cleaning.

The room was nicely decorated and the bed and pillows were very comfortable and clean. The shower was big, strong and hot. It served a purpose of somewhere to sleep comfortably. The reception area was very unwelcoming and disorganised and made me feel like I was staying at a very generic uncaring hotel. This put me off at the start. People weren't rude but they were definitely distracted and unfocused. The signs for some kind of government organisation at the door confused me and made me feel very out of place. Arrival at a hotel is what makes you feel good about staying away and this was not good! I am very glad I didn't pay full price as I felt the room wouldn't be worth more than the £60 I paid. At that price I felt I could overlook the scuffs on the wall, car park view and poor choice of tv channels.

The breakfast was really good value, and very well executed. They have the capacity to produce a really good hot buffet and plenty of choice on the continental side. The walls here are paper thin - I can only imagine that this is their reasoning behind not allowing children to stay in the week.

The De Vere was a very nice and quiet hotel. The morning after we explored the huge gardens and woodlands, it was fantastic. The only thing that prevented us giving the De Version excellent marks was the really unsociable checkout time of 09:00am!!!! What was that all about? Really, that tainted the stayNormal checkout is between 11:00 & 13:0

Spacious room, clean and tidy. But no frills really. Definitely more of a Business type hotel than anything else. But perfectly acceptable and the room rate was superb. So no complaints. Bit of an odd feel to the place, as it's a bit like a number of apartment blocks. You check in at reception and then wander round a huge estate looking for the right building and then wandering along corridors to find your room.

The staff were friendly, pleasant and efficient, and even though the room was very basic there were more helpful extras [like the iron and ironing board in the wardrobe] than we expected Housekeeping had forgotten to supply loo-paper - but it was promptly brought when requested.

The staff was helpful and courteous. It was obviously converted into a hotel from a school (it still had the school's signage out front so I wasn't sure at first if I was at the right place), and the rooms used to be offices which were in separate buildings from the reception. The wifi was spotty at best and kept dropping my Skype calls.

Good value for money. Rooms nice, bathroom good size. Good location. Why pay extra (2,50) for a credit card? And breakfast is not cheap (9,50) although good quality. With bad weather the outside sleeping facilities are not convenient (walk through rain for breakfast).

Friendly staff and room was fine Whilst the hotel itself and the staff were all good, friendly, etc etc. The food poisoning from the bar food was an unwelcome free gift, and i cannot remember the last time a hotel room TV only had 5 channels, not since the year started with a 2?

Large site, very nice room. Brilliant price for a Brilliant room. The prices of the food (other than pizza) were very expensive. It would have been nice to have more options for room service. The corridors and stair wells also let the place down.

Staff were excellent and efficient given how big the hotel was. They put other smaller venues to shame! Better signage for reception would've helped - I had to drive around a lot and walk for a long time. Also a better online description would have helped because when I arrived and it was like a university campus I felt a bit mis-sold...

Misleading pictures on the Booking .com site give the impression of a medium to top end hotel. The reality appears to be converted military accomodation. Bland rooms and very tired decor. De Verre is located literally in the middle of nowhere and very difficult to find so for the business traveller it is not ideal. Overall very poor value for money.

Good location, friendly staff, very cheap. Great if you just want a bed for the night. The shower was really bad, I had to spend ages trying to get my hair washed which wasn't convenient as I was in a rush. Very low pressure, it just dribbled on you.

Decent sized and comfortable double rooms, although single rooms in the 'Bridges' block are small and grubby. Noise from corridors and adjoining rooms can be heard if you have noisy neighbours! De Vere cleaning staff seem to be reluctant to use a duster ;-)
