Hotel was 'tired' and in need of update - staff were pleasant, room was comfortable and overall this one night stay met our needs.

The architecture (exterior) is classic Georgian and the gardens are well tended. The hotel sits back from the road, so noise is reduced. I travel extensively and have to say that the only positive apart from the external appearance was the cuisine. The chef is superb, the food a delight, but the restaurant and general cleanliness and decor at the hotel reduce the experience to a non-event. The hotel has obviously not been upgraded for many years. The decor is shabby and tired, the furnishings scratched and worn, there are no pictures or decoration (fresh flowers etc.) to speak of and there is little to make your stay more enjoyable. The staff must also feel the effects of working in such an atmosphere, which was more like a cheap bar in Blackpool rather than a good quality hotel in Kent, close to London and certainly with potential to be a 4 star hotel. The hotel has massive potential, but ha been left to deteriorate. I would only consider staying again if steps are taken to improve the overall cleanliness and decor. this woud also allow the hotel to raise their rates, as I would prefer to pay a bit more to have a more enjoyable stay. The only oasis in a desert of dinginess was the food.

The room was spacious and well equipped The decor of the bar area was poor. The breakfast options were extremely poor. The room was very noisey during the night due to the clanking of radiator pipes and the hotel water system - not at all restful or relaxing

I enjoyed the food and the ambience of the hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful taking time to see if we were O.K. lighting the fire in the bar and putting the T.V. on I have a low car and the speed humps in the car park are not very well sign posted or visible with arrows or painted lines.

The winning point was the free public wifi accessible in the bar/lounge area and most of the first floor rooms. To my surprise,I found out that in this part of London and Kent, most hotels charge for their wifi/broadband use. In Asia almost all hotels provide free wifi. The bar/lounge is cozy with ample sofas. Breakfast was alright for me with the usual continental choice. You pay slightly more for a freshly cook one. The breakfast area is warm an cozy too located in an extended gazebo. Great to eat and watch the blu skiessun, birds and people going around to do their thing. The kitchen staff are friendly and helpful. The nearest train station is West Malling.Taxi price to here about 5 Pnds. Buying groceries is easy with Morrison 200 m to the left and a Tesco mini 100m to the right. The parking lot is clean with a nice well kept greens and flowers. There are no lifts partly because it is an old historical house. It's not a problem if you travel light. For heavier suitcase, you can always ask for an assistant to help carry the heavy luggage. There are no saunas, spas, gym or swimming pool which was also not a problem for me.

A great hotel for the price. Wifi doesn't appear to extend to many rooms. In fairness I can't remember if their welcome pack stated that Wifi is free in just public places or throughout the hotel but last time I stayed I was able to access it in my room. Also note that continental breakfast is free, while full english is extra.

Friendly staff, pleasant decor, presentation of food very nice. There was only one disconcerting problem - the bed on wheels - helps move the bed to clean underneath but when you try and sit up in bed leaning against the wall the bed rolls away making it very difficult to actually stay sitting up in bed

Very friendly and helpful staff, good atmosphere, quiet and comforable. Ample free parking, Hotel is close to local amenties and Maidstone for shopping.. The all inclusive continental breakfast had plenty of variety and was more than adequate. Very satisfied an d would go there again On one of the two visits to the restuartant for evening meals, it seemed bar snacks meals were allowed to be consumed at the tables by people without a sense of dress code or appropriate language/behaviour. This seemed unfair to other diners.

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Everything needed in room. Nice and warm and easy to control heat. Lovely food in bar and at breakfast. Only a minor issue but a power shower would be easier as the water took quite a while to heat up.
