Helpful and welcoming front desk staff, clean room with pleasant view, attractive conservatory dining-room The chef the night we had dinner. The very small lamb shank was served with a great globule of stringy fat (about half the size of the meat), and an extra decorative piece of just pure bone. The sea bass was smothered with a bland and apparently unseasoned sauce. As for the sauce served with the ice cream, this appeared to be nothing more than a spoonful of instant coffee dissolved in hot water. The vegetables tasted as if they had sat in warm water for some considerable time. A pleasant hotel badly let down by a chef apparently totally uninterested in food. Two lights in room ceiling were not working. The tap was hard to turn off.

its location to the wedding venue up the road. Bed was good No TV (Andy Murray was playing so didnt see start!) as remote missing - no offer to replace.. also the whole place is in dire need of a re-fit, bathroom old and tired with moldy grout (no excuse for this) carpets in main building old and the front and facade of building is awful.

Had to run gauntlet of the cigarette smoking at hotel entrance -certainly not a great advert for guests staying. Also a wedding being held meant that guests staying overnight were tramping corridors until 4.30am plus a dog barked periodically. Wouldn't recommend hotel until these problems were dealt with.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Very well maintained and very clean. Also very comfortable. Excellent food. Not cheap, but is value for money. Would definitely stay at the hotel again. The location, the decor and the all round atmosphere.

I have stayed at the Tinto several times - love the location and friendliness of staff. Such a relaxing hotel.Receptionist and girls waitressing in morning were really good. This stay there were a couple of times I couldnt find a member of staff to order afternoon coffees or evening meal. Shower in bathroom could do to be upgraded.

Beautiful location, close to where we were visiting friends. The hotel room was clean but very old fashioned. As we had an early departure before breakfast was served in the dining room, we asked for continental breakfast. The staff said this was not a problem and were happy to oblige. ONly problem... they forgot to do it. We had to go to reception to chase it and ended up being late leaving for the airport. They did apologise but still disappointing.

Close proximity to friend. The price £89 for a single person, in a dated room from the land that time forgot! Faded, jaded kick back from the 70s. £1.45 for a small bottle of water too, adding insult to injury. Use as last resort.

Nice rural location, only 5mins from Biggar. Good breakfast, very attentive and friendly staff. Slightly outdated bathroom decor / facilities, compared with say a travelodge or similar. Mould on tiled wall next to shower!
