Kindness of the staff

Bath ventilation, loose floor.

Beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was good.

In the Stansted flightpath, one person serving in the restraunt and having to tend the bar, so you had to go and find them when requiring bar service.

The hotel was warm and welcoming and tastefully decorated. The staff were most helpful and friendly. Many thanks for a comfortable stay

Water pressure and hot water were a little disappointing - but this is a grade b listed building so allowances have to be made

The price was ok

The hotel is on the main Stansted flight path - my bedroom (which was on special offer, I now know why) was right under that flight path. I may as well have been lying on the runway. Flight every 20 minutes right through the night. Also the building is so old that it is very creaky. Every time anyone in the hotel moved, it is heard by everyone else. I heard the man in the room 4 rooms away peeing in his toilet! The room was nice but the bathroom needed a real good clean, the taps were caked in limescale, the tiles and grouting were filthy, the shower and bath surround had not seen a cleaning product for a long time. The bes was exceptionally flexible - when you got into it your bum was nearly on the ground! I stay in hotels twice a week as I travel extensively for my job, I am not a fussy traveller but this was not good and the noise was the major problem - this should be explicitly explained - especially if staying at the rear of the hotel where the "specially priced" rooms are.

Very professional and efficient staff. Very clean and tidy throughout hotel. Very comfortable room, location brilliant for airport. Hotel and gardens full of character. An excellent balance between posh and approachable.

Decor was a bit tatty and out of date.

The staff were excellent - very helpful. Especially the night porter on duty on Saturday 30 July - nothing was too much trouble for him and he was very pleasant. Bed was very comfortable, room was very large.

Wasn't very happy that our room wasn't ready a 4 pm. We were going to the Tom Jones concert and had to leave without being able to have a shower.We were told told that there had been a wedding the night before - I'm afraid that didn't interest me - I just wanted a shower! The bathrooms definitely need modernising - the shower was dreadful.

Olde-worldie and full of character. Quaint country hotel.

Need a car. Taxi to and from airport pricey..

Charming hotel, typically English building and in-room decoration. Just a bit disappointed that it is remote to a pub. Free wifi in common space, not in bedroom. I stayed there one night upon arrival from a late flight and before heading to London in the morning. This hotel is probably best suited when going to it with your own car.

Very friendly staff, excellent evening meal, the location & history of the hotel was very interesting. The rooms were comfortable & warm and the price was value for money. We would certainly stay with you again in the future.

The only thing was that work was being carried out on the hotel quite early on Sunday morning (around 8:15 am) which woke us up earlier than we had planned.

Good location for what we wanted to do. Comfy spacious room. Quiet surroundings - aircraft noise is present but not intrusive. Good value dinner, though not a gourmet experience. Courteous and friendly staff.

Though fine for us, hotel did not tick many boxes for its purpose. Is it romance, business, or luxury? - not really - seems to exist only for wedding parties. Not quite enough staff on hand to cope with 2 weddings and the other residents - they tried magnificently, but management should not be so stingy on the cost cuts and should provide more staff when wedding is on. Definitely a problem with the heating - hotel staff couldn't turn it off !! Room cleaning was not thorough - tide marks on bidet/toilet, bulbs not replaced, dust present.
