the pub, the breakfast, the staff.
Room was a bit cold, small fan heater supplied as the wall heater not working.
Enjoyed stay, lovely hotel & nice staff
The room had a cracked pain of glass sellotaped up which made the room very cold by the dressing table area!
Filled all the boxes
Wish we were staying longer
The staff were quite friendly and generally attentive. Breakfast was delicious and definitely helped to redeem some of the less satisfactory aspects of our stay. We also had an evening meal in the restaurant and, although our lamb shanks were quite tasty and tender, we felt like the portion of accompanying potatoes and vegetables was quite small considering the price we paid. I also thought £6.50 for a glass of wine was on the extortionate side. We were unable to access the wifi in our room in the barn annex or in the main building and felt particularly isolated as we had no mobile phone reception at the hotel either.
There was an electric radiator in the room and it was stiflingly hot. The switch on the wall did not work to turn the radiator off and it took us ages figure out how to turn off the heat. Some brief instructions in the information folder left in the room would have helped. There was also an electric power shower in the bathroom which we were unfamiliar with and it took us a while to figure out that the pull cord in the bathroom was for turning it on and not for the fan, as we had assumed. The hotel is in a lovely old building full of charm but it is in need of renovation and looks a bit uncared for. In the conservatory part of the dining room, for example, there is still a decoration left over from Christmas and a dying plant that is beyond being saved and should go in the bin. In the main bar area, there was an unpleasant smell that seemed to come from the public toilets that was quite off putting.
Comfortable bed excellent breakfast, good value for money
A little road noise through windows that could may be better insulated.
The atmosphere and excellent food
Our special request when booking had been totally ignored and staff were critical of my not having followed this up with a phone call. This should be stipulated when booking if required. It tainted but did not spoil our stay.
Food excellent facilities v good overall very pleasant
Family room , valentines day menu was fantastic value and mouth-wateringly tasty . Second time stopped here . Also had Sunday lunch here booking essential . Food is always of a high standard staff are very polite .
After my first stay here a few months ago I was less than impressed however everything I had mentioned had been taken on board and was given a free upgrade to a bigger room away from the main road. Room was very spacious warm and comfortable.
Dining room was a bit chilly in the morning for breakfast.
Very friendly and attentive service. Characterful bar and restaurant spaces. Warm. Both evening meal and breakfast were good in quality and quantity.
The room was small - no room for a chair, the double bed pretty well filled it. A lighter sleeper than me may have been more aware of traffic noise.
Friendly staff, pub was nice with cosy real fires.
Ice cold bedroom, no heating had been put on before we arrived. Room pretty small and tired. Cheap biscuits
I only stayed 2 nights but after having problems getting the key to work the staff were always ready to help me get the door unlocked. The problem was to be speedily resolved by having a new lock fitted the day I left. Staying in winter it would have been easy for the room temperature to be either too hot or too cold but it was perfect, Bibliophiles will love the downstairs public rooms with the book cases and old pictures. The Swan has all the interest and character of an old building but the facilities are totally up-to-date. Will not hesitate staying again if I need accommodation in that area as it was easy to find (although do not follow your satnav if it tells you turn right as The Swan is on the main road!)
The key would not work well in the lock making it difficult to get into my room however this was to be rectified the day I left
Location, excellent roof
Staff may just have been a little more welcoming
The restaurant and breakfast were very good.
The room was facing the road and because it is single glazed, it is extremely noisy and we couldn't sleep.
Very friendly staff. Warm and welcoming atmosphere in the pub - a cosy place to relax downstairs. Lovely food.
Room location at the front of the building. Fairly constant noise and vibration from lorries, unfortunately, which is a real shame. Should be cheaper.
Entertainment for New Year's Eve the welcome we got and the bar everything was great Breakfast was delicious and the welcoming was excellent Great time Highly recommend
Staff were wonderful, day and night Room as described Food was fantastic
Being picky, I would prefer a more powerful shower
Good quality food. Friendliness & helpfulness of staff. Good sized room Fast service at breakfast
Not enough choice of food for breakfast, e.g. croissants/yoghurts would be nice
Good overnight location for a cross-Britain motor traveller
Everything Internet was down but not owners fault Very apologetic
Location was first class Staff extremely friendly without being over-bearing Breakfast was served promptly and was exactly what I wanted Excellent access roads to and from M6 and also into Newport Market Town
Bathroom light above wash hand basin and the mirror did not work (Room 11) Shower controls difficult to manage successfully without proper instructions
Bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows.
Advertised as free wifi yet it does not reach the barn conversion rooms so not able to do the work I intended. Shower pressure was awful, just a dribble if you wanted a hot shower with no heater in bathroom. Electric heater on wall took ages to switch on room was freezing on arrival.
Open fires Atmosphere Food Having a nice hot bath
Food in Restaurant is exceptional. At least they provided a fan heater. bedroom adequate for price. bathroom too cold to use, cant use the fan heater in there.
There was no Wi Fi room freezing cold draughty windows, we need to use a fan heater to heat room up. Bathroom like an ice box. Room tiny, not much bigger than bed. The room above you could hear them use the toilet and the pipes screeched when theirs and our cistern filled back up. the bathroom mirror was 4 inches round, its a shaving mirror and a small one at that. There rooms are in a separate building behind the pub which is ok but the passage between the two is only lit by a security light which doesn't come on until you round a corner so its pitch black for some of the path.
Very good food
Small room rather old fashioned and very lumpy bed! Stayed here 3 years ago in same room and no improvement
