The location was lovely and the hotel was very nice. The room was well decorated and very comfortable and clean We met for a family reunion - 4 couples all middle aged. We had a nice evening meal but the courses were luke warm only and the service was on the one hand over fussy (we do not need to have our napkins placed on our knees) and on the other hand poor (my sister had tea splashed over her and although we asked for more bread at breakfast the person who asked was given one slice and then the basket was taken away!). On the Saturday evening the 8 of us were sitting in the bar having a quiet drink and chat and the bar was shut at 10.30 p.m.! This is disgraceful for a Saturday night when there are residents in the bar who are drinking in (very expensive) rounds.

Location good. The room was disappointing, rather tired looking and with only 1 bedside table. The bathroom was dated as was the decor of the room. Limited television channels.

totally messed up with one of our bookings, gave us a tiny room while others in the same trip had much bigger rooms. But the staff was quick to relocate us to a room with the same standards as others.

The best thing about our stay at the Swan Hotel was the attentiveness of the staff. Without exception we felt that all of the staff treated us so well. Perhaps the bathroom was in need of an update?

The location is, of course, stunning. The room was very comfortable, clean, and with a lovely view of Helm Crag and the hotel gardens. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking convenient and free. We did not dine in the hotel, but breakfast was plentiful and varied. I didn't like the pillows - would have liked a choice of feather. En- suite very small, though it did have a bath - good point.

We liked the locality. We have a set of 6 table placemats of "old english pubs"and decided to make our trip to the U.K. a little different and visit all 6 of them. We enjoyed the hotel but were a little dissapointed with our meal, having chosen lamb we found it to be very dry and it should be moist.

The staff were professional and friendly, breakfasts were excellent. Good location, close to some great walks where you can leave your car in the hotel car park. We were at the back of the hotel so we did not hear any noise from the main road. Dining room pleasant to eat in. Plenty of parking and just a short walk to Grasmere centre. The only issues were the condition of the corridors and for the price of the Excecutive room it was not of the standard I would expect. The bathroom was small and the tiling needed re doing and the sink was stained. Perhaps a cheaper price for this room would be better.

Very freindly staff at every level, reception, bar, breakfast service and night porter. They took the trouble to chat as if this was our local and not just weekend guests. We felt very welcome and at home because of this. Many many thanks to the staff. The bed was very very comfortable. The rooms seemed to be past their best, could do with a refurbishment. We thought we paid a lot of money for two nights stay and were expecting a little more luxury for that price. Booking into a "pub" we expected a more informal atmosphere in the bar but it really did feel like a hotel and restaurant, but the staff made up for the atmosphere.

We enjoyed the peace & quiet. We were on our wedding anniversary,(35yrs).& on the same day as the royal couple. We didn't receive any preferential treatments, but we did enjoy are stay. All the staff were friendly, helpful & very cheerful, nothing was to much trouble for them.however we did think £8.50 for 2 bottles of still water was very, very expensive. This did shock us.

“As soon as we entered Heidi's Lodge, we knew we would enjoy our stay there. It was welcoming and cosy and the staff were very friendly but not intrusive. We were in Room 4 which was very pretty and quaint. We did have to remember to bend down, so as not to bang our heads on the beams as we are both quite tall. There was a little balcony with a lovely view of the hills. The bathroom was spacious and had under floor heating and a splash screen television which was a novelty. We will stay there again and I recommend it.” Kay, Pennington, Ulverston |
