Ambience and helpfulness of staff; Good breakfast.
Nice garden area. Discount on bar food. Hiking maps.
Long way to room with steps to lug our bags up and down
We love the drying room facility and the rear car park for easy access to the rooms at the back of the hotel.
1. The TV was not functioning when we stayed there. 2. I misunderstood the website booking and booked 'room only' rather than 'bed and breakfast' - website was not very clear on this.
Goog food and drink choices. Good location, very competitive room price.
The walkers bar the open fire and a superb breakfast. Dining room a joy to be in. Reception staff very helpful. An excellent place to relax.
We had no dislikes.
Location. Very comfortable.
Small expensive meals. Insufficient seating at the bar presumably to encourage taking meals at the even more overpriced restaurant. A maze of corridors and stairs to get to the room.
Position, clean room and food adequate!
Waiters that do not speak English, and restaurant provided same menu as bar and no firmer pillows!
We like everything about this hotel. It is the third time we have stayed here. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being in your face. Great location for seeing the sights in and around Grasmere. Looking forward to our next visit in December
Nothing - having to leave
Room good size and bed comfortable ~ bathroom nice and clean. Garden good if weather was dry and breakfast very good choice. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Price of drinks too high and also price of dinner. No television aerial down but other rooms had television working. Over 80 and had to walk up three staircases with luggage and along long corridor.
The location was the reason for booking and the hotel was value for money with friendly staff.
A great location, with potential to be an excellent hotel
Shower not working and bath had the wrong size plug. On asking - the manager declined to allow me to move rooms but assured me a plumber would be called the following day. No other shower facility was offered. Following day - shower was not fixed. I asked to move rooms and was told by the manager that there were no other rooms available. I checked on-line - rooms were advertised and on challenging the manager, he made a feeble excuse about the room not being equivalent etc etc.... I was moved, but too late to be appeased. Shocking customer care. 250 m up the road is an excellent pub with accommodation - next time, we stay there.
very good breakast
bathroom very small,to enter and leave shower was quite dagerous
There was a mix up at the Hotel with the booking which potentially could have been ruined our holiday but thanks to the head receptionist Jemma we were upgraded to a feature room. My sister and I enjoyed the facilities and our room was very clean and comfortable. The Location was excellent and parking was easy.
The hotel was out of marmalade for three days. Know this sounds very picky but a simple thing to rectify surely? Many of the guests were heard to complain.
Nice big comfy bed.
Staff could have been friendlier and more helpful. In the brochure in the room there is a menu for 24hour service and another dinner menu to be served until 10pm. We had arrived late and had not had time for dinner, but even though it was still 9:55pm I was told the chefs were leaving and no food could be made. I then asked for a soup from the 24hr menu and was told they couldn't do that either as they can't do hot food anymore, but if I wait 1 hour until 11pm, someone else would be coming in who could make us a sandwich. Bearing in mind there is nowhere open in Grasmere at that time, I would have expected more from a hotel which markets itself as luxury
The bedroom was comfortable with plenty of hot water for showers. We has a tasty bowl od soup in the evening but prices were a little high.
Lack of breakfast in booking price. It was £15.50 per person to book breakfast when we got there so we went into Grasmere in the morning instead. Thought that a major drawback. Also hotel was rather a warren of corridors.
Kindness and helpfulness of the staff
The shower in the room was poor
Food ok otherwise nothing special just another hotel.
Restaurant staff incapable of making decision without consulting restaurant manager. Response to simple requests poor. Really irksome! E.g. Can my 12 year old have a large children's portion at extra cost - I will need to consult restaurant manager: got child's portion with lots of extra veg.
The room booked on line was a saving on cost.
Asked for a second night quoted 199 in same room. Booked a second night on line in same hotel for 135. Seems that they should have left us in the same room at a saving to the hotel on laundering sheets towels and cleaning.
Not allowed to eat in restaurant as was wearing shorts!!!!
Barman very good, friendly and professional. Nice Gardens
Receptionist not very good, didn't seem to know what she was doing. Not many staff and the staff that were there were working flat out! Decor is tired, needs a revamp. Restaurant very dark. No lift. Not many light bubls worked in room.
The location was perfect, lovely clean, comfortable room, friendly staff. Would stay again but eat else where.
Food in restaurant was nice but very over priced, and not value for money.
Gardens are nice and they serve good coffee from the bar, location was good for access to fells
Room was pretty dated and the bathroom window was cracked, shower took 10 mins to heat up, the twin room had the beds pushed together which is fine if you are good friends. Bar food was a bit hit and miss, a toasted sandwich came out stone cold and had to be redone. The worst thing was the £17.50 per person charge for breakfast. I've never paid more than a tenner in any other hotel in my life...I only wanted cereal, toast and coffee so it was ridiculously priced. We walked down to Grasmere village and had a nice breakfast for about £6 in a cafe
the location the rooms and the comfort
the staff were very unprofessional.the manager was rude and arrived in the restaurant in a track suit. the service was terrible and the bar staff left before closing time......from a service point of view a disaster...they were furniture moving during breakfast...next time I will stay at the red lion!!
Very friendly staff Good car park
Day 2 breakfast service was poor... ...wrong order brought to table twice....had to find waiter to clear table so we could continue. Bathroom was cramped.
good location good food comfortable room very good deal lovely gardens
noisy radiator in room hot towel rail perm on could not turn off very very hot water in bathroom very creaky floorboards some breakfast staff looked and felt unhappy rooms a bit dated but pleasant enough
