Superb location, lovely old building, pleasant friendly staff and a lovely room. The choice in the Restaurant is poor and we ended up having to go out for a meal, which is not what we wanted. They will never achieve a decent reputation if they don't improve their menu options. We have a lot of friends who stay here and this is the general concensus. Love the Hotel and Ambiance but the variety of food......................

On our arrival the dining room was rather cold and draughty. However by breakfast the next day the heating was on. The afternoon tea was good value but we thought the dinner menu was a bit expensive for what was on offer

Despite being close to quite a busy road, the hotel was very quiet - fabulous grounds. Lovely food. Staff were all friendly and helpful Decor in bedrooms a bit dated and 'tired' although revamp due next year

Very pleasant and attentive staff. Good service and food in the restaurant and a nice comfortable room albeit in need of a bit of renovation, which they are doing in the New Year. Really enjoyed our experience and we will be going back soon.

Helpful staff and great location to racecourse. Rooms 4 and 6 are the best. Hotel could do with an update, I know this is happening in the New Year. After this it will be better value for money.

We used the hotel as stop over post a wedding / wedding reception. We told the hotel receptionist we would be back late but they failed to tell the night porter so we found ourselves on the doorstep in the wee hours banging on the kitchen door to be let in! Other than that the location was good for us and the room clean and comfortable. Didnt try the restaurant - looked like the hotel is set up for New Market race goers.

When booking it looked good value for money, but the room was not a comfortable place to stay. The bed was narrow and hard, there were no chairs to sit on and watch the TV. The TV was poor, very old and difficult to use. We had a bad night! The charge of £15 for our small dog was £1.50 for each hour he was in the hotel! Breakfast finished at 9.30. We arrived at 9.00 and there was very little fresh fruit. I asked if some more was coming and was told that it was so late that the Chef would not be putting out any more Toast was a special order by the slice.. Not a Special Place to return to.

Overall very good Complaints:-Power point for kettle in room u/s Very nice afternoon tea but tea/coffee arrive around 15 minutes before food! Cooked Breakfast very good but presentation awful (everthing was just piled onto the plate) Wrong information given re pre booking of taxi to racecourse we were informed that this was not an option when in fact you can book "Cambridge" rather than local taxis this wrong info cost us a 1.5 hour delay getting away from the race course!!!

Ours was a particularly lovely room. Plenty of space and lovely decor. Bed was very comfortable. Facilities in room excellent. The staff were all extremely helpful and courteous. Breakfast in conservatory was very good. Window sills inside the room needed cleaning as they were very dusty. For the £175 per night we paid, they should have been clean. Similarly when the windows were opened, the outside sills were absolutely covered in thick birds' mess. These sills looked revolting and should be cleaned regularly.

I felt like I was a special guest at a friends country house. Close enough to Cambridge, but far enough away to just relax around th eplace and enjoy the ambiance. In such a large room, I would have been grateful for a proper desk and sofa.

The size of the room was so spacious. It was the double deluxe room and the most amazing thing was the view from the window. The bathroom was massive, very clean and on the whole the place had great warmth to it. The staff were fantastic and we were made to feel very welcome. We went there with the intention of staying at the hotel the entire weekend. However there was no option to have a lazy night watching a dvd as there was only freeview tv in the bedroom. For the money you would expect a dvd library on site or sky/cable tv in the bedroom.

I loved the house how it looked from the outside ,very quaint ...then the inside ...love the period features and it had a very relaxing atmosphere about it, the piano in back round had a very relaxing touch ! The food was stunning ...i eat out alot and it was really the best i have ever tasted i would return for just this reason alone ..but i would return as it was a very pleasant experience in all .Room was decorated with the style of house in mind and extremely clean !!!! i will return with some friends during the summer hols ..and i shall recommend a stay to anyone wanting some style and escapism from London and a fab location to races also just 1 hr from London ...Thanks for a great stay ! I would just say the staff seemed a little inexperienced in a very mild since ..i think they would benefit from a manger presence ...the staff were good but needed some training to answer some very typical questions ...all n all ..friendly atmosphere !

The 'superior' room was very outdated and showing signs of wear and tear. The shower (attachment) was faulty and only produced very hot water. Breakfast was quite good although we waited quite a while to be served. When my husband went to the toilet near the restaurant he found a number of waiting staff in there smoking- not great! Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The location of the hotel is good, just a few mile outside of Newmarket with pleasant surrounding counryside but for the price paid the room was poor and rather shabby (although I understand some other rooms have been renovated).

Slightly lacking in facilities but the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Lovely eating area. Chef did his best to comply with our requests for food for our little one (two and a half) but a child menu would have helped. Very little for children in the way of food choice. Room was quite large but other than a chaise longue there was nothing to sit on and no desk. Shower was a little bit too efficient - it was a fixed head and you were drenched. So much so that shampoo was washed off before you could apply it. It would help if it could be switched to let you use a normal sliding rail or the drencher.

The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable - they were excellent for the rate we paid and the hotel made every effort to accommodate our family of 5 (eg gave us two rooms next door to each other and put a comfortable camp bed in one of them). The staff were very pleasant The bathrooms were somewhat tired and our shower didn't work (hardly any pressure; didn't warm up). The breakfast was mediocre - had been sitting around in serving dishes for what we assumed was a while as it was pretty poor quality. The exception was the eggs which were cooked to order and were fine

The appearance of the hotel was very impressive as you drove up the driveway, avoiding the rooster and his hens along the way!The grounds were well kept and the lawns manicured.Entering the hotel one couldnt fail to be impressed by the panelling and sweeping staircase but your eye was immediately drawn to a beautiful conservatory furnished as a dining room. Here we enjoyed a beautifully cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner to the lilting melodies played on the grand piano. The staff were welcoming, helpful and provided an excellent service.A Very enjoyable weekend. Although spotlessly clean the decor and bathroom were tired and old fashioned. Hate having a stained carpet in the bathroom. Water from the shower was tepid on the Sunday morning.
