Town centre location with free parking. Old fashioned building with lots of period charm.
Wi-Fi a little slow, only 4.5 Mbits on my iPad.
It was a lovely building with a great atmosphere. Our bedroom was very comfortable with plenty of space and we enjoyed our breakfast
We were in room 8. The mattress on the double bed was not good-I could feel all the springs. It badly needs to be replaced. Apart from that we were delighted with everything
when i was leaving this hotel
walking up the stairs which was uneven, also strips of carpet falling off steps television came of the wall when i tried to straighten it to view, sound quality was poor on television shower curtain fell off the bath when drawn for a shower half used cappuccino packet on the cabinet room floor was unlevel
nice friendly staff,good food,clean room,
lovely historic building staff were very friendly and efficient rooms were very nice and extremely clean
It's central location, the town has easy access to other visitor attractions and large towns. Food was good both in quantity and variation.
1) Location good
1) The cold and dusty room, could not put heating on ! 2) Bathroom was newly decorated, but no toilet roll holder or shelf over sink, and mirror to high ? And so cold like bed room . 3)Un-approachable Manager, who we could not find before Leaving to report how we felt !
That I had to leave
I liked the history of it, knowing how many hundreds of years it has stood. I liked the central location among the busy shops. I liked that they responded quickly when we said our mattress was awful with springs sticking up--they brought a new mattress. Also when a sudden cold snap happened and the heating was off, and we were cd, they brought a heater which made us comfortable.
Our first night was awful, as the mattress had springs sticking up all over--but they brought a new one the nest day. They only gave is one towel for two people, so we had to ask for another. They only had one key, so we had to ask for another and wait another day for it. Breakfast was in included in our fare, but it soon became obvious that the breakfast was not in the beautiful dining room but we were shunted off to a drafty and shabby room with stale pastries, sort of hot water for tea bags, and the first morning a Luke warm English breakfast. The second, third, and fourth mornings the breakfast was hot; the pastries were still tough and stale. The man who greeted us at check in seemed unfriendly, gave us vague directions for a complicated winding way to our room. He was helpful when we asked for things, but his manner did seem cold and unfriendly. Our bathroom was clean; but there were pigeon feathers and bits of things on the bedroom floor. The window was cobwebby with dead insects caught in the web, and the view was of a broken window on the next wing of the hotel, with pigeons inside! Our curtains were torn and had shredded bottom.
We booked a 4 night stay at The Talbot because it is very conveniently situated for all the museums and sights we wanted to see in the West Midlands: Ironbridge, Black Country Living Museum, Birmingham Cathedral and Art Gallery and RAF Cosford. We paid that little for a Superior Room and we were given Room 7 - a huge room full of period furniture. The shower worked fine but the carpet needed a clean. There was a very extensive choice for breakfast - we cannot comment on dinner as we eat out every night. We thoroughly enjoyed the charm of this 17th coaching inn and we will return.
Size of room Free Wi-Fi Plenty of choice at breakfast
Not very comfy bed Main restaurant not open on evening Poor quality sausage at breakfast
Some of the breakfast good has expired...
poor at topping up complimentary tea/coffee/milk etc, eg 2 milk
Great location helpful staff. Good breakfast choice.
Very tired generally, curtains falling down dirty windows small room. Dark atmosphere. Could make more of courtyard
The food very good price nice selection on menu and the breakfast was good .
Our rooms was two flights up a very dangerous staircase where the carpet was coming away from the steps and was threadbare . Our room was dated but not in a nice way there was electric cables running everywhere. The hair dryer was so old I was scared to use it. The room just felt very neglected and shabby but not chic. The TV was connected through a free view box . We wasn't even asked if we enjoyed our stay which is a pity as we had a lovely evening with our friends enjoying the good food from the bar.
central location with parking, also liked the quirkiness of whole building.
It is a very old building full of caricature. Wonderful value. Always my first choice if we are in the area.
It is an old building so be prepared for a bit of noise, a bendy floor and similar.
Had to book this hotel after a fire in our house, the staff were very helpful, the rooms were lovely, very old 15th century hotel, lovely breakfast. Would have continued our stay there if insurance company would have allowed it.Thank you all at the Talbot
Food was good (but dining room only opens on Friday and Saturday so we ate in the bar)
It was "tired" and not quite "as" photo's on web site. Cold water tap in bath did not work and shower worked OK but we couldn't then turn it off. Whilst there was a trouser press mounted on the wall, the front presser was missing. There were no handles on the wardrobe door. Not sure this warrants 3 stars.
The staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. They are the best thing about the hotel.
The hotel needs a lot of work. It is old which is fine but needs refurbishment. The showers weren't great and the general facilities need much improvement. It could be a fantastic hotel if it was painted, re furnished and well maintained.
The shower didn't work in our room
Parts of the hotel are 14 century It's not a premier inn , but if you like character this as got a lot
The staff were very friendly
The bathroom was dirty
the fact that it was centrally located
the decoration of the room also that the shower didn't work properly the reception staff were told but nothing was done until I managed to speak to the cleaning staff the following day who had to use some force to turn off, the fact, that there were no reception only on the phone this is not very secure in the fact that keys could be removed from the desk.
Run down room, broken fixtures, dirty bathroom, moody staff, noisy smelly room.
