This elegant and relaxing hotel is close to Windsor and convenient for Heathrow Airport. It has a restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes and 6 acres of beautiful grounds. Taplow House dates back to 1598 and is minutes from Slough, Maidenhead, Windsor and Eton. The peaceful hidden venue has personal, friendly service. The bedrooms are warm and welcoming. Each has air conditioning and satellite TV, and is individually designed and beautifully restored. Berry's Restaurant overlooks the grounds and serves modern British cuisine with Buckinghamshire produce. Dine al fresco on the terrace in summer. Hotel Rooms: 32, Hotel Chain: Classic British Hotels.

The grounds of this hotel are very relaxing and have quite good historical connections - a tree that is reputed to have been planted by Queen Elizabeth I for instance. There was no elevator access to the major rooms, which was a surprise for a 4 star hotel, but the staff were very helpful with wheelchair access to the main entrance.

The period charm. We had a room on the ground floor becasue had requested not many stairs and the room had its own terrace so if felt special. Well when we checked in we had booked for 2 nights. but the hotel had us down for one night but it was sorted out.

The receptionist that checked us in went out of her way to help us as it was my husband's 40th birthday and as a special treat I booked this hotel. I booked it as the website depicted a four poster bed in the room description. The room we were allocated did not, however the receptionist managed to swap rooms and we had a wonderful stay.

I liked the old fashioned service, uniforms of the staff and the very 'Englishness' of the hotel Some of the fixtures (although of very high quality) are showing signs of wear. Would have liked a full length mirror in my room

Lovely atmosphere - friendly staff, food good and generous portions well served, but not gourmet. Nicely decorated. Spa bath didn't work.
