Best Western Tavistock Roker Hotel  

Staff were friendly, food was good.

Bathroom, toilet did not flush properly, shower screen let water get onto floor, door would not shut. Hotel looks shabby.

Location

Hotel was very tatty and cheap looking outside, no name outside on front or board by roadside - only nameplate was small by entrance door. Executive room was minimally furnished - kettle in the wardrobe?? Some inside areas also tatty. Breakfast Saturday was ok but then buffet on Sunday with no menu choices, was planning to eat something else on Sunday. The buffet was appalling. Cold plates and tepid food. I'm sure there are minimum legal temperatures for hot buffets, this didn't reach them. Lots of noise from people leaving function room. A "Polite Notice" asking revelers to consider sleeping guests at 1.45am on the bridge passageway would help, and more pro-active staff approaching the offenders promptly. Overall a very disappointing experience as a Sunderland exile who remembered this as a top hotel.

Rooms were not very spacious and very dark and unpleasant.

Friendly efficient. Staff,newly refurbished tastefully and to good quality,excellent breakfast,good quality food in bar with wide choice ,prompt service and reasonable price.bus stop outside on South Shields to Sunderland coastal route.good value for money.will use it again.

The hotel has a great location on the sea front.

I stayed here 2 weeks previous as a single person and the room was adequate, this time I was given a small single room near a noisy staircase with little or no internet signal. The Hotel has theme nights and the front car park was taken up by a lot of non-residents.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms were noisey ( we tried two) The rooms were hot and the only provision was a very thick duvet. Sleep almost impossible

The fact I paid £120 for 2 rooms, the next day another £140 was taken out of my account and still hasnt been refunded

Mix up with rooms. Broken window. Dirty coffee cups. Dirty laundry still in bedroom after previous occupants. Only one towel in bathroom.

Location is excellent

Noise room on 1st floor directly above the bar far too loud, also room doors with gaps allowing noise from corridors through...

Nice location

Good location - sea view is nice.

Smell was awful: it smelled of damp, mold and some ineffable muck everywhere but in corridors especially. Breakfast could be more reach.

Just seaview when you outside the hotel

Radiator did not work at all, it was horribly cold in the room. Despite of my room was on 1st floor, every time to reach my room I had to go through 4 flight of downstairs, actually my room was one storey lower than underground floor If you have any luggage - you will face an issue to get the room

gone down hill, i stayed there 2 years ago and it was fine, this time no hot water for shower or heating, boiler had packed up, i had to repair tv in room myself because staff could'nt, noisy water pipes sounds like steam train coming through bilding when water running, not a good experience.

Bar and ThaiChina restaurant were very good, nice (and unusual) to have such lively and used facilities within a hotel.

My bathroom was dirty, in particular the toilet. I would hope this is an isolated and unusual experience, I would stay again assuming so. If it wasn't late (dinner time) when I arrived I would have complained upon arrival.

Right on the beach, although our view from our window was a rooftop.

Noisy both nights we stayed. There was a wedding one night & an engagement party the next. Noise from people screaming & shouting in the hallway was unacceptable. The room was too hot & the tv didnt work properly.

Location - On the sea front, near to where I needed to be.

Very small room. Very cheap furniture in the very small room. Insufficient space to work on lap top on the desk. Does not represent good value. Much better value can be had in Jesmond in Newcastle where the cost of stay is cheaper and the hotels are much better quality. Disappointing.

The location was lovely overlooking the sea and close to were we wanted to be.

Our room was so unbearebly hot it was impossible to sleep even with the radiator turned off and we were directly above the bar and loud music was booming out until 1:45am.we paid extra for what we thought was a superior room and all we ended up with was no sleep and headache.

Friendly and efficient staff.

I have marked 'Comfort' as poor as the temperature in bedroom and bathroom of room 144 was unbearably hot. Turned off the rads and opened the window but the heat seemed to coming from boxed in pipes in both rooms. Felt quiet unwell when checked out and mentioned the room heat to the member of staff on reception.

Our room was in the depths of the hotel and was really small. Would have thought for the price paid that the room would have been a regular, if not large, size.

Room far to hot. Could not turn heating down

Breakfasts were good Nice room/bed with great view over North Sea. Easy bus route/bus stop at door. easy parking.

1. The fridge in our room 146 did not work (it was a hot weekend!). 2. The shower drain smelled. 3. The bathroom was clean, but when my wife used the Jakuzi black bits of smelly gunk came out of the nozzles immediately. My wife screamed and leaped out! It was horrible since she had to shower to clean it off. That was a disgusting experience which shows it hadn't been used/cleaned for a long time.When we removed the plug to drain the now filthy bath, the drain in the shower overflowed and filled the shower basin in more disgusting water and drain bits/gunk. 4. On saturday night a party went on til midnight directly below our room (in the Thai restaurant area. The volume of the music extremely intrusive, we had no sleep until it stopped, and then people were outside laughing and shouting for ages too. We had no warning from staff that this was going to take place, or we would have made arrangements to be elswhere til 2.am. 5. When I mentioned these on departure, there was no mention of a refund, only gratitude for bringing the issues to the attention of the Hotel staff. This was supposed to be a superior room and it wasn't!

Good size room

Cleanliness , state of repair and breakfast was pretty poor. Expected more for our money. Will not be staying again. Paid for sea view room and had scaffolding in front of window.
