Built in 1898 and briefly owned by Stanley Mills, the hotel has provided a haven for many weary travelers and hopeful fishermen.

A lounge and public bar offer a wide choice of food and beverages. For quiet contemplation there is the lounge/library, which is the ideal place for an afternoon pot of tea or an after-dinner drink.

The function room can hold up to 140 people and is used for a variety of purposes, from birthday parties to village celebrations.

Room information

All 12 rooms have private bathrooms with either a shower or bathtub. All are decorated to a high standard and offer the facilities listed in "room descriptions". Rooms are either twin, double or king-size.

The 2 family rooms can sleep up to 4 people. If booking one of these, please specify what configuration you would like the room to be set to (double and 2 twin or king and 2 twin or 4 twin beds).

Area information

The village of Stanley lies just 6 miles north of Perth in central Scotland. Stanley exists because of the mill on the bank of the Tay River, the first water-powered ones in Scotland during the industrial revolution. The village is home to some 2,000 people and has all the essential stores including a newsstand, post office and pharmacy.

Perth "The Fair City" is regarded as being the center of Scotland and is home to a regular arts festival as well as regular race meetings. Scone Palace, the traditional crowning place of Scottish monarchs, is within easy driving distance.

St. Andrews and Edinburgh are within a one hour drive, with Pitlochry and Dunkeld to the north within 30 minute drive, offering fantastic views of the Tay and Tummel Rivers.

They are all there to please you. Nothing is too much trouble. We stayed at the Tayside last year when we visited the Scottish Game Fair, we found it to be extremely easy to travel to the Game Fair from Stanley without getting caught up in the traffic jams. So consequently that was another reason to come back to the Tayside this year. We will certainly be going back next year. If we can make it we will be back sooner. She really made us feel "at home", nothing was too much trouble - even organised an early cooked breakfast on our first morning. Food was excellent on both nights of our stay. Breakfasts were excellent, with a wide choice, served by friendly,efficient staff. Although we have had dinner in the hotel on a previous visit in February 2008, we chose this visit, as the days were longer and as we were travelling about visiting various local places of interest, to eat out .On our last evening however we did enjoy a bar meal from the all day menu which was served to us in the lounge. This was very enjoyable and again the service was excellent. ”
