Wonderful,

“The hotel and gardens were very attractive, the room very nice. The staff were very helpful and polite. The food was amazing, it was expertly cooked and presented, the menus were expertly put together, there was such a subtlety of flavours. We were impressed that we were served canapes before dinner. The wine list was also very good.”

This delightfully peaceful country house hotel is situated in the center of a conservation village in the Eden Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty between the Lake District and the Pennines. The Temple Sowerby Bypass opened in October 2007, returning the village to a true a quiet rural setting, yet less than 10 minutes from highway M6. Elegant rooms, discreet service, AA 2 Rosette-awarded cuisine and personal attention are the hallmarks of the hotel’s relaxed hospitality. The house dates from 1727 and has been sensitively restored to create just 12 comfortable and stylish bedrooms, all with contemporary bathrooms. Superior rooms include spa bathtubs or hydro-massage showers. A new restaurant, constructed from local, mellow sandstone columns and picture windows, overlooks the peaceful, walled grounds. Whether your visit is for business or vacation, one night or several, you can be assured of a relaxing stay. The hotel has been awarded 3 AA stars and 85% merit award. Hotel Rooms: 12

Lovely hotel located in the Eden Valley and with beautiful surrounding countryside. We appreciated the attention to detail in the rooms and the public areas - everything was "spot on ". We will definitely stay again if in the area - cant recommend it enough !

Temple Sowerby House Hotel is a well preserved country house of character with a beautiful garden to the rear, located in a pleasant village with good walks by the River Eden and a complex of pleasant public footpaths. The proprietor was helpful in steering us to a very nice walk to fill in the time we had before dinner. The atmosphere in the hotel is hospitable. Dinner and breakfast were elegant meals and the cooking and presentation excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The wine list is well chosen; we had an excellent bottle of claret at a very reasonable price. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Very comfortable, welcoming hotel. The cleanliness was superb and I have never had such a comfortable bed in a hotel. The food was of a high standard, A salad or two would be good and perhaps more fruit.A Vegetrian option on the menu would give more alternatives to meat and this is available but only if ordered in advance.

We wanted somewhere 'Special' to stay for our 30th Anniversary and this hotel lived up to our expectations. Excellent ratings as above. It was very quiet, I think we were the only couple staying that evening. Although the food and the service were first class we think the ambiance would have been improved if there had been more guests.

Temple Sowerby Hotel is ideally placed for those who want a location that is close to the Lakes and the Pennines. It is in a quiet setting in the village of Temple Sowerby, close to the a66 and near to Penrith. The hotel itself is comfortable, homely and well looked after, although the room we stayed in was rather small. The staff are pleasant, but were rather too formal, but if formality is what you like then this is the place to go. The food was well cooked and presented and tends towards 'fine dining', but is not for those who want a good wholesome meal after a day out. The pricing of the menu was based on either two courses at £29.95 or three courses at £37.95 (both per person). Dishes were not individually priced. This means that clients who opt for dining in face a bill of £60 before drinks and for some people this might be too much.
