Room and ensuite excellent. Staff very helpful. Bar supper excellent. Grounds looked a bit neglected. Breakfast was very disappointing. Was down at 8.30 but fruit finished. Plates for cooked breakfast cold. No marmalade on table, had to find a spoon to get some out of a 1lb jar. For that price I like a breakfast to die for!

Having heard over many years about Thainstone House it's setting and the magnificence of the house we have wanted to visit.Unfortunately we left it too late.As happens all too often when a hotel goes from privately owned to a chain ownership, the standard has dropped considerably.Upon driving up there was this beautiful house set in it's own grounds. Entering the hotel was an altogether different experience. The carpets are stained, chairs worn, and the whole place needs a damn good clean.

The location is wonderful and ease of access to Aberdeenshire is second to none. However, the Thainstone House Hotel is now looking very tired indeed and has become really quite shabby. It needs a complete re-vamp. For a hotel so close to the oil wealth of Aberdeen it needs to up its game some-what.

I stayed there 1 night as I had an early flight next day from Dyce, and all the airport hotels were fully booked. The hotel is rather tired, and I feel it only gets the price because of its proximity to Aberdeen. I stayed in 5 other hotels in North of Scotland the previous week with my wife, 2 of them 4 star, all were much better, and all were cheaper. The breakfast was overcooked as it had been pre-prepared rather than cooked to order. The lounge bar, where I went to get an evening meal, was manned approx 45% of the time! there were periods of up to 15 minutes when there was no one there to serve. The barman also had to serve the food, and maybe he just had too many other tasks to perform, but the service was unacceptable.
