The AbbeyAbbey Road, WR14 3ET Great Malvern (Show map) Very good, Score from 219 reviews“I have stayed at the Abbey a number of times both on business and for pleasure and would always stay there again when visiting Malvern or the area. The Abbey is situated at the foot of the Malvern Hills in the Worcester countryside and is convenient for many attractions. Its history dates back to the 1600s and the building retains some outstanding original Victorian architecture. Located in the heart of Malvern, The Abbey offers outstanding Victorian architecture beneath its Virginia Creeper clad facade. Commissioned during the growth of the spa town in the mid 19th century, the hotel has a long history of welcoming guests and provides the highest levels of comfort demanded by today's traveler. The location offers easy access to highways M5, M6, M42 and M40 and convenience for Birmingham's NEC convention center and airport. A very warm welcome from attentive staff. We booked a double room and was given a twin but this was rectified as soon as we pointed this out. The room had everything we wanted and was a good size, in fact the bed was slightly too big! Breakfast was every good with an excellent range. The only thing we did not like was that the tea served at breakfat was served in flasks which gave a poor after taste. Please can we not individual pots per table!!

From the first phone call to checking out the staff were warm and friendly, with an excellent service oriantated attitude. The room was a good size with lots of storage space. The bed was rather uncomfortable. Not very supportive and I could feel the matress springs when I layed down.

The Abbey, is steeped in history and its location at the foot of the Malvern hills is fantastic. The food and comfort of the hotel is 100%.. You couldn't want for more.. I will definately be returning to the Abbey in the very near future.. Couldn't fault it.

Good location, nice rooms, large bathroom, nicely decorated, helpful staff, nice lounges/bar area.Staff very friendly.A good selection of food for breakfasts.Tea/coffee facilities in the room, plus iron & ironing board. No spa/swimming pool.Could not get internet access in the room or in any of the communal areas, had to go elsewhere(Wetherspoons)to use the internet to pick up emails etc, hence your hotel lost out on drinks/snacks.Also,confusion over the menu, which the reception staff couldnt answer immediately, meant eating elsewhere.Menu in room was very limited and we didnt find out til our 2nd evening that it was only a bar menu & not the main restaurant menu.No ramp up to main reception area meant carrying luggage up a flight of steps.

The Abbey itself is a grandiose landmark, very conveniently located at the entrance of Malvern village and it offers stunning views of the Priory and valley. The Abbey does not live up to one's expectations simply because it does not fulfill the promises it holds when looking at it from the outside. Behind the beautiful façade one finds: multi-patterned fitted carpets, orange (!) light fittings in a huge dining room that offers the 'romantic atmosphere' of an office restaurant (I.E. none), gloomy wallpapers, tasteless 'modern' furniture rather than antiques, a predominantly faded green/mustard 70ies/80es colour scheme. Due to previous, obviously ill-inspired renovations, the Abbey has lost its 'authenticity' and in my humble opinion, this grand old Lady deserves much better!

Very comfortable with friendly staff. The bar and bar meals were reasonably priced and tasty. The room was very comfortable with big bed and television. Lovely location and from the carpark you could watch the neighbourhood Pergrine Falcons plucking their kill. Like many hotels it could get too hot. Staff in the restaurant cleared plates off our table a bit too quickly without asking if we had finished. We had but it seemed a bit previous.

The reception area and and public rooms were nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The staff were polite and helpful and our bedroom was above average in size and comfort for the price paid. It was a perfect location for walking the Malvern hills or visiting the theatre. The tea/coffee served at breakfast was served from flasks and therefore not very good quality although a fresh pot of tea was provided when asked for.. Toast had to be prepared by yourself using toaster provided otherwise the breakfast was good.

The staff were very friendly and helpful The bedroom was very shabby for the price, very tired and needed updating. The cooked breakfast was well below par, the items had obviously been cooked well in advance and kept warm. My husband's scrambled egg was like a spongy mat!

Comfortable Hotel which was very clean and reasonably well appointed. Staff were friendly and efficient and the Hotel was well located for our requirements The breakfast was let down by using apparently cheap ingredients which were tasteless particularly the mushrooms and eggs. We do not eat meat so couldn't comment on the quality of this. There were also instances of penny pinching in the room e.g. only one bedside light for a double bed and no clock in the room

Our room was fabulous, spacious and comfortable with views overlooking the Malvern hills. The service was efficient and although we didn't have much contact with the staff during our short stay, where we did they were polite and attentive. The location of the hotel is excellent for our purposes, both for visiting the town and walking the hills. It is a large hotel and obviously a good venue for events - there was a wedding taking place while we were there - and as such it becomes impersonal. I wouldn't be able to recommend The Abbey as a cosy, friendly and welcoming hotel although it suited us very well. We had a light meal from the bar menu and thought it was expensive and rather poor quality.

All the staff were attentive and helpfull.Dinner on the Friday night in the hotel was excellent and the restaurant manager was particularly pleasant as was the waitress Zuzanne. The location of the hotel for the hills and the town is perfect and allthough there was a wedding and new years eve party we were not disturbed in the slightest. We previously visited the hotel about 20 years ago and it is as good now as it was then!!! Congratulations to all that are involved in the managment and continued high standards which it is rare to see these days and will ensure that you continue to be around I am sure for many years to come.Thankyou. The bed in our room could have been less firm, but I have to accept that you can not hope to suit all the people all the time so as that is my only negative comment please do not feel bad about it!!!!

Comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The key card for the bedroom failed four times and each time we had to trudge down to reception for them to re-set the card.

Very comfortable. Good location. Standard room very good. Very convenient for the theatre where we had seats for the opera "The Magic Flute" As we are an elderly couple we found unloading luggage difficult complicated by the flower pots at the base of the entrance steps. The breakfast was very good but spoilt by hard fried eggs.

“We had an excellent stay from the moment we arrived the staff were efficient and very friendly . We were given a free upgrade to a beautiful room in the pinnacles with breathtaking views and every thing you could possibly want including lots of little extras including an emergency kit and free bottled water . The restuarant lived up to its reputation with great food , wonderful service but not in a stuffy way- the duo of Brulees was to die for . The only thing that was missing was the possibility of having a bar meal rather than a full service dinner but having said that it is a wonderful place for a break and we will be visiting again in the spring. ” Lisa, Little Canfield |
