The Abbey  

Lovely location. We first stayed at the Abbey about 20 years when our friends moved to Malvern from London. We have stayed a number of times since and will stay again I'm sure.

I was overcharged for the flexible room. This was my fault, I didn't have my paperwork with me, couldn't remember the correct rate and didn't challenge it. I'm sure it wasn't malicious they just charged me a standard room rate instead of the rate I'd booked at.

Convenience to town center and proximity to Malvern College

After a second complaint about the room ( No Cold water & The TV wrongly channelled and not working properly) an upgraded room was offered.

It became obvious that the room had not been pre checked in advance of occupation as there was a major issue with the water supply. There was no cold water available in the room and the hot water temperature was excessive and dangerous. There are limitations on the availability of internet access within the rooms. It is not wifi but has to cabled. The use of ipads and iphones and other devices that now-days do not have the old style lead sockets prevent their use. The food at breakfast although ample was plain and general run of the mill limited quality. The eggs were overcooked and presented on the buffet as 'stale'.

The bed was comfortable.

The dirt and coffee stains on one windowsill in the dining room (the one where the glass is well covered with ivy outside). We observed this on two separated mornings over a five night stay.

Poor, dated decoration of bedroom and public areas. Restaurant was awful, no atmosphere, looked like a canteen in a workplace. Badly in need of refurbishment.

The hotel building itself is beautiful, the exterior is covered in ivy and it's located a couple minutes walk from the high street and theatre. Breakfast was nice. Front of house staff welcoming.

Seemed more tailored to older people. Room basic, not worth money paid. Room not turned down in evening. Not enough milk in room.The waiting staff didn't seem to care too much with us, they seemed more attentive to the older people at breakfast. We were not asked if we wanted tea or coffee. Older people very noisy in room above at around midnight total lack of respect for others! There was no warning about the bells from the abbey going off every hour when we booked, however the abbey is stunning! We usually wouldn't have minded but it was our first night away from having a baby 8 months ago and we were looking forward to getting a decent nights sleep!

Comfortable room. Lovely location, picturesque hotel. Handy for walks and shops.

Room hot but if window opened we were disturbed by some road noise. Had superior room, very comfortable but decor a bit tired. Bathroom fan didn't work which was unpleasant as no window to open.

Very low standard for a four star and hard to believe the room we had was "superior". I feel the start rating should be reviewed.

The hotel was conveniently sited and the staff were all very helpful. At the time that I stayed, the hotel was very busy (fully occupied?), but the staff dealt with the high numbers of customers with great efficiency.

Double rooms in the new section are far too small and do not represent value for money. Just bearable for a single night but no longer. Restaurant food quality was average only and not up to expectations. Main course ( fish on risotto) had to be returned as it was completely dry and stodgy. Restaurant staff were however extremely polite and efficient and exchanged for a different choice without question.

Staff very friendly and helpful, rooms very comfortable, very welcoming break which we will enjoy again.

At breakfast drinking from mugs I feel is not in keeping with the Hotel image especially when after stirring ones tea or coffee there is no receptical to place ones dirty spoon on.

The staff were very helpful and courteous and the room was very comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent.

The restaurant was very plain, lacking in atmosphere and the menu was limited and somewhat pricey.

The room

We had to pay £10 extra a night for our dog, yet nothing was provided for him and he left no mess. We went in the bar only to be told we couldn't go in with the dog!!! Whats the point of a hotel with dogs if you can't go in the bar, something that you should be told when booking!! Breakfast was a sham the first morning, it was full and there wasn't enough staff to cope, tables were not cleared and food needed replenishing.
