We liked the age of the Hotel, as we are from Australia we have nothing near the age of The Abby Hotel. We also loved the view of the Abby from our window. We enjoyed the walk through the little town. The food was really lovely, so was the beverages. I guess if there was anything to complain about it would be the squeeky floors, but really not a great worry. It just reminded us of how old the place is.

The position is good. Looks nice from the outside. The room was clean but I expected more for £80 - the beds didn't have night frills on and you could see the matresses which wasn't particularly attractive. The tv wasn't working and we had to go and get the guy from reception to swap the sky box with another room. This should have been checked beforehand. The bar where we ate was very shabby and the bench on which I sat was torn and dirty. Isn't it time it was revamped? The lambchops ordered by my son were as tough as old boots - could have been goat. On the whole a completely mediocre experience. I would never stay there again and I certainly will warn off any of my friends.

The hotel is in a very picturesque setting directly opposite the famous tintern abbey, which provides a beautiful view once lit up at night time. The staff were very friendly and happy to help. The room was a bit of a distance to walk and we went up 2 small flights of stairs. But this wasnt a major problem for a young couple. The room itself was more than adequate for the reasonable price to pay, also the sky box was a hit with my daughter.

The Wye Valley is beautiful in autumn and the view of Tintern Abbey from the room was a special delight. All-in-all a comfortable place to stay overnight on our walk to Monmouth.

Although a little tired in its decor it was very clean, the rooms were comfortable, its an old hotel and had character. The staff were exellent. And the food was fantastic. Room one was really nice but over the bar so very noisy as the bar door kept slamming and everyone outside smoking could be clearly heard.

We only stayed for a quick one night stopover and chose this hotel as it as convenient and nearby to a weekend event my daughter and I were attending. The hotel is excellent value for money and the view of the abbey from our room was breath taking. We did not have time to sample the cuisine, but from what we saw it looked delicious!! Negative points were that the bathroom although very clean was tired and could have done with redecorating. Also, we went to bed early and were disturbed by noise from the room above us. I would have no hesitation in staying here again. It is a beautiful location and offers excellent value for money. Bathroom needed redecorating. Could hear guests in the room above ours.

The location was excellent, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was good. Whilst I have put some adverse comments below the hotel is generally OK and I would stay again if in the area. The hotel was too quiet, similar to a doctors surgery both in the bar and the dining room. It needs some background music to break the silence. The pillows in our room were much too thin. Our bedroom was just above the beer cellar cooling equipment and as a result there was an annoying noise throughout the night which meant we had to keep the bedroom windows closed.

My fiancee and I had a most relaxing weekend. We found that the Abbey hotel was good value for money and was comfortable for our needs. The location is absolutely excellent for touring the Wye valley. The food was good as was the range of drinks available. Recommended, and we would return if we are in that area again. (Fiancee speaking now: The duty staff were brilliant in looking after us, and making sure that maintenance in the bedroom was taken care of - several light bulbs were not working. Suggestions were made, upon our request for upmarket restaurants in the area, and reservations were made on our behalf. The willingness to provide helpful service was noticeable, and appreciated. Many thanks!)

Position was excellent to allow walking on Offas Dyke and many other country walks direct from hotel. Several pubs and hotels local to eat and drink at.Breakfast was good 2 out our 3 nights the hotel had a wedding function on which was noisy ++++ especially as we were directly above the function room. They said they were unable to move us as they were full and seemed to think that as they regularly had functions the guests should accept it!! Have they never heard of forward planning and putting the wedding guests over the function room????

We Booked Hotel well in advance of our trip, booking 3 twin rooms, only to be told on our arrival there was a mistake with the booking and we had to have 3 double rooms with a camp bed as the other bed, this did not go down to well, but we had to except as there was no other accomodation available in the area. the staff apoligised for this and offered a £10 pound discount on each room we did not agree with this as 2 beds broke in the night, we got £20 discount per room in end.

Stunning, peaceful location opposite Tintern Abbey. Slow service in the restaurant; rooms tired and dated and bathroom not cleaned to a high standard; creaking floors.
