really helpful and friendly staff. We loved having the extensive balcony, although the weather wasn,t good The beds were really cumfy and warm and the hot water was brilliant.. I woke in the night hearing a strange noise, it was like a musical instrument, was it a horn? In my sleepy state I imagined the Admiral striding around the inn blowing his horn in the deep dark night. However I realized my husband was deep asleep snoring at his best!

We had one of the deluxe Queen size rooms for a night and found it very spacious. The evening meal was excellant and the breakfast the next day was just as good. All members of staff were very friendly. Unfortunately it took us a short while to locate the carpark as there were no directions, the water for the bath was luke warm and we didn't succeed in connecting to the free wifi.

The beds were reasonably comfy and it's right in the middle of town. Overall the breakfast was good apart from tasteless sausages and luke warm coffee. The room was hotter than the sun but we couldn't open the windows due to road noise. The service wasn't great. We went for breakfast at 0930 and couldn't find a table for two because none of them had been cleared. We went to the same hotel 2 years ago and unfortunately it is looking very tired now with a notable drop in quality of service.

Evening meal was good and breakfast was satisfactory. Shower was probably the best we've experienced in a hotel. The original double room which we booked was not available due to the heating not working and the only room available was a twin. Room was at the front of the hotel and Saturday night is very rowdy with nightclubs in both directions from the hotel. Also, parked out the front and had the wing mirror kicked off the car. Parking is available around the back but we were told it was safe out the front.

It is basic pub accommodation, but the food was very acceptable (but don't deep fry your mushrooms so oily) and the staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the girl who served breakfast. It is an attractive building and we enjoyed a nice evening in the bar, and it is in a great centre of the town location. The first twin room my daughter and I were taken too was literally like a sauna and they could not control the heat, and opening a window made no difference, there was no light bulb for the bedside light and the bathroom mirror light did not work, but it was a nice cosy room. We then were moved to the main pub building to an attractive but 'tired' room. Unfortunately for them they are not allowed double glazing and it was very noisy with traffic going down the street most of the night (they are trying to address this). The carpet had come away from the walls and the room needed a bit of painting, again the bathroom mirror light appeared not to work. But these things were not too worrying. The worst thing was there was no mattress cover just a sheet draped over a disgustingly stained mattress - very unpleasant. A member of staff was mopping the stone floor as we came down for breakfast which should have been done before as it was a rather unpleasant smell, and we had to walk round her and her bucket. Again not an issue but just something the management should be aware of. With a bit of attention to detail and upgrading they could make this into a fabulous pub.

The staff were very friendly and helpful the room was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The design of the bar area was too open and too bright which was a bit of a disappointment considering the history of the building. Although the disco did finish promptly at midnight.the noise in our room was quite considerable.

Location-proximity to Stamford and Rutland Water. Good accomodation, friendly, helpful staff and first class meals. Would prefer separate shower rather than hand-held shower-head( involved kneeling/sitting in bath)

We stayed in Room1, the Queen Room, the roll-top, claw-foot bath was lovely. Room was extremely spacious and had everything required for a short stay. We ate in the Restaurant, the food was excellent, freshly prepared and served hot, breakfast was also of a very good quality. Perfect location for Oakham and Rutland water. Staff very friendly and helpful. Car Park - needs better signage.

Fabulous location, lovely staff, nice big room and large comfy bed. It would be great if they had a shower curtain around the bath and the ability to have a proper stand-up shower.
