Loved that the Alma Inn were dog friendly. Absolutely stunning surroundings, plenty of parking, and the food was great. Personally, I think some of the other reviews we read were really unfair. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The pub area was clean and comfy despite reviews we read stating otherwise-it just wasn't true. The resident pooch, Ruby, was ace too.
Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to issues beyond our control, but wish we could have stayed another night. Will make up for this in the future hopefully by returning.
Location has beautiful view and was convenient to the many places I went in the area. Breakfasts were cooked to order. I ate dinner there 3 nights and never had a bad meal. Enjoyed meeting the proprietors and their friends.
American drivers might find the immediate lanes a tad narrow, but it's worth it!
The pizza, the owners, the views and the homely feel.
Only the breakfast.
The room was very dimly lit and the tiny TV didn't work properly as there was no signal. Also the address was not Sowerby Bridge as advertised on your website, it was miles out, in the sticks. It was very expensive for what it was- a rip off we thought.
location, good tv room for sport
Not made to feel welcome. food average, chicken with creamy mushroom cheese sauce came as gravy with mushrooms in it, no trimmings. Could not get any reception on Television in room, put down to weather when asking about it. advertised with 2 guest ales non available.
Views outside, pity i couldnt view them from the room as a tiny window at 5ft high.food was nice but not worth £9.95 for chips pie peas.landlady and young lady friendly.i would not return again.
Double room was tiny,im 4ft 11,had to stand on the chair to look out of tiny window.food was ok but very stodgy and gravy like water.i dont think this room was worth £60for the night.
Stopped at the alma for one night as we was in the area for a wedding. The room was poorly lit, and dirty. What had some tea before we when out, the food was over priced and of poor taste and quality not what I expected. Over all at £60 per night excluding breakfast the alma was over prices, for the standards and facilities offered. Would not stop here again or recommend to others.
Clean well appointed room with magnificent view of countryside. Very good food and good value for money with a fine selection of real ales.
Water could have been a little warmer in the shower.
The Inn was nowhere near Sowerby Bridge as the web site / address suggests, and the Italian Restaurant was closed, without any notification when we booked. The bar area was full of dogs, and the seating was nothing short of filthy dirty, with the base cushions and throws looking like a dog's basket. The TV in the room had virtually no reception, and the spa bath worked, but the water was only luke warm, hence totally useless. This place is only suitable for those who have fond memories of Royston Vasey, and who like Crufts.
Great location. Friendly welcome and great ambience. We will definitely stay there again.
An excellent base for exploring The Calder Valley area. We'd definitely stay here again.
location, owner, facilities, food in bar, helpfullness, landscape, will come again
room could have done with 2 cups for tea making, two glasses, better soap, shampoo, cleaner blinds in bathroom, a TV that worked and wasn't tiny. Breakfast nice, but clearly partly pre-cooked
Lovely views. Cozy place.
My partner couldn't sleep due to extractor fan noise from kitchen. Other then that lovely place.
wifi wasnt very good
Lovely staff, very clean and high quality facilities
£60 a night seemed a bit much when it doesn't include breakfast
Clean, tidy, friendly.
Breakfast needs to be cheaper, or in with the price, as there isn't much else around. It's not that easy to find of to get to.
We spent a Friday night there room was great very comfortable staff were great location was to die for couldn't ask for more will definitely b going back
The location was great, the hospitality was good and it was cozy.
Although the breakfast was nice, my son had egg on toast, yet we were charged $9 for each breakfast, thought this was steep on top of the room charge and a bit of a rip off - won't go back. Will look for a B&B next time.
Welcoming, cosy and warm. Beautiful setting and friendly to our dog
Totally loved the location, the staff were absolutely wonderful, warm & sincere and we doted on Ruby! Very good nights' sleep, couldn't fault it! Felt very relaxed and welcomed!
that we had to leave! I should have booked another day!
Staff were great, very welcoming, friendly & accommodating despite unforseen shortages though illness on New Year's Eve, of all nights!
Didn't seem to be enough hot water for bath, although shower was absolutely fine.
The family room was ideal for a young family. The setting was gorgeous. Good cask ale and nice friendly atmosphere in the pub. Not much choice at breakfast but good. Seemed very quiet for New Year's Eve!
TV in room needed repairing to get the arial to work.
The owner's were very friendly. The room was very clean and tidy. The food was excellent.
Huge, comfortable bed.
angled ceilings in odd places in both bedroom and bathroom (my 6'2" husband cracked his head several times). Restaurant was closing at 7.00pm so we dined at 6.00 in the bar - Sunday roast (left from lunchtime) hard potatoes, soft vegetables. Apart from really friendly young waitress, staff were apathetic.
