Cosy country pub feel, warm and welcoming staff, clean and comfortable rooms, gorgeous food. Had lovely relaxing stay.
The bed was very hard making it an uncomfortable nights sleep.
Cosy ambience and atmopshere Friendly and welcoming staff Relaxing Nicely decorated rooms and comfortable bed/pillows.
Residents lounge a little chilly Fish batter could do with more bubbles and crispiness but chips and peas were good.
Sunday lunch is excellent and very good value
The staff were exceptional. Really friendly, welcoming and accommodating. They even let me have food in my room as I was really busy work wise that night. The location was really quiet (they had warned me there might be noise from the dual carriageway, but I heard nothing in my room!) and the bed was wonderful. I slept so well I missed breakfast in the morning :) (I'm sure breakfast would have been lovely as my evening meal was superb too!) And I was really pleased with the cost too. I will be back again :D
My only teeny tiny niggle is that he Wifi was a little flaky. Not sure if it was my room or what. It kept dropping out on me. Not a major hassle but a little niggle. It was free though and easy to access. :D
the decoration and dinner
The staff were exceptionally professional, our room was lovely, clean and seemed to have been recently refurbished. We had an issue with our shower and went down for dinner and told the staff about it. By the time we finished dinner, the staff had moved all of our luggage to a new room and placed everything how it was in the old room - so kind! We had drinks at the bar downstairs before dinner, and ate at the restaurant both nights. Highly recommend it - super easy having your bed right above your dinner! Especially when it's freezing cold outside - and there was also no restaurant noise heard in our room which was very pleasing.
It was so disappointing that on the first morning, there was only packet cereal and some fruit as the "continental breakfast" and on the second morning there was no fruit! There was a group of about 10 waiting for their food when we arrived, but no other guests. And it took them 30 mins to poach four eggs. Disappointing when there was no "continental options."
location as next to A19 rooms food
not much really!
The hotel is excellent and food superb. We went as a couple whilst there was a Christmas party being facilitated yet the service and friendliness of staff was second to non. We will be returning.
The staff were all excellent - warm, friendly, efficient and professional. Bed was extremely comfortable. Restaurant is very good - lovely atmosphere, excellent service, and good food. Breakfast was cooked freshly to order - much nicer than the usual buffet.
Nothing we didn't like
No light on dressing table. Room ceiling light too dim. Cable on kettle too short to reach socket so had to put on floor to boil. Thin walls - could hear snoring in next room. Bath gel 6ft up on the wall over the bath - couldn't reach it without climbing in bath before filling it. No slip-resistant mat for use in bath and no grab rail - very dangerous.
We chose to stay in the "Halo Suite" which was of a very high standard, top quality furnishings, excellent comfort, and a lovely treat for two days over the festive season. Very tasteful Christmas decorations. Lovely choice of menu and a welcoming and very accommodating team of staff,
The staff were really friendly and there were plenty of then albeit it was New Years Eve never had to wait to be served
Only the starter of the meal but only a minor issue
We had taken the opportunity to have a short break away during the Christmas holidays and were delighted with our choice of hotel. Excellent comfortable bedrooms and clean attractive bathrooms while boasting and excellent restaurant with delicious home cooked food at both breakfast and dinner. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful without being intrusive. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for it's accommodation, restaurant and locality for shopping in York/Harrogate and also for walks in the surrounding countryside.
Food was excellent. Both for breakfast and dinner. Very reasonably priced. Hotel was decorated for Christmas in a discrete and understated way. Complimented the overall impression of the hotel very well.
Booked this as a relaxing break between Christmas and the new year and it was exactly that. Really good accommodation, great bar and restaurant. Room was comfortable and bed was great. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Bathroom, although modern and well appointed was a bit on the small side and always felt cold despite the heated towel rail being constantly on.
Everything was great from friendly staff to excellent rooms
There was not much NOT to like! The room was lovely and clean and the beds comfortable. Plenty of hot drink making....lots of hotels are very stingy with tea, coffee, milk. The bottled water was replenished daily. The dining and bar areas were squeaky clean and comfortable. The staff could multi-task and they were polite and friendly. The food was excellent - we had Christmas Lunch which was of top quality. The hotel was tastefully decorated and not too much fuss made of Christmas itself!! We are looking forward to visiting again...soon I hope!
No bath mat !!
Excellent for our needs, good parking, comfortable clean en-suite room, friendly helpful staff, good food both at dinner and breakfast and good value for money.
Nothing not to like.
all of it
Lovely large modern room with great power shower and friendly local staff. Breakfast looked good and other guests also enjoyed their stay.
Comfortable room and bed. Decor clean and simple. Attentive staff. generally good breakfast (but see dislikes). Overall this is a great place to stay but they just need to improve some basic details.
The shower head drooped so it sprayed the wall and shower pressure was feeble. Each time I have been there has been a breakfast fail: cold reheated sausage or an inability of the chef to poach an egg.
People were very welcoming and attentive and the meal I had was really, really good! - A good range of local (cask) ales and great value for money. I will be back!
Wi-Fi / Internet was a little bit slower than I am used to, however it is a rural location so I respect that they are limited by what they can have. This didn't affect my stay and dealing with the really lovely people at the Angel more than compensated.
everything...especially the breakfast!
