Lovely room. Very clean an comfortable. Lovely views from our room. Watched ferries pass at night. Quiet too. Had breakfast next door at the merchants house whose owners couldn't do enough. Lovely place too and both very friendly. I highly recommend the breakfast as well worth paying the extra. We had a meal too and this was excellent value for money. No faults whatsoever. Highly recommend.

Across from ferry port, big Spain's clean room. Stand alone bath. Offered us a complimentary packed lunch/breakfast.

The stand alone bath meant there was a shower head but you had to hold it.

We were made very welcome and when we explained we were to catch the early ferry and so couldn't stay for breakfast, we were offered a lovely take away breakfast, very sweet. Full marks. Very close to the Ferry terminal as well.

Loved the room very nice, very clean had everything we needed, was perfect , the young man who showed us to our room was very nice helpful and friendly, very good value for the money, would definately recommend, thank you.

The only thing I would mention is that we had to go out of town to get something to eat, as we were tired and just wanted something quick and there wasnt anything near us,thank you.

The greeting I received was first class, the pub next door made me want to delay my departure and the sun terrace absolutlely fantastic

Staff very friendly and happy to accommodate late arrival. Nice comfortable room with en-suite shower room. Cooked breakfast was lovely, a great start to the day.

Noise from floor above, sounded like furniture being moved about + creaky floorboards. Wouldn't put us off returning though.

Perfect for catching the ferry to Belfast, cheap but very nice

Very difficult to find, there is a small sign on the wall of the place but in the dark it's impossible to see. For future travellers, as you enter cairnryan from the north there is a row of white terraced houses on your left as you come onto the town. There is a b&b/ cafe with two lamps outside and the auld cairn is next door.

I picked The Auld Cairn because of its proximity to the Stena Line port. I was very pleasantly surprised by the location and quality of rooms and the friendliness of the staff/owners.

The people who own the auld cairn are not around but I have to say that Fiona and Alan from the Merchant Inn next door were excellent. We had a lovely dinner there and met two other couples who we got on with very well and the breakfast was exceptional. The room at Auld Cairn was beautifully decorated and would definitely stay there again if coming back to Ireland on the ferry

Friendly helpful staff. Only B&B in Britain where I have stayed that had a shower which was not over the bath. Delicious home cooking.

Closeness to stenaline for ferry the breakfast was excellent and service good. this was at the premises next door

The greeting was by a young man who did not even help us up the stairs with our luggage although he walked up in front of us to show us to our room. The method of taking payment was very curt and amateurish. The room had no key for the door. The wardrobe had a broken coathanger lying in it. The room was cold and we were cold all night. The curtains did not have linings so let in the light. There was no chair in the room. All in all we would not stay here again

I think the info on the room said a window overlooked a garden. We couldn't see one. This is a very minor issue & not worth any complaint.

brilliant in every way

Ideally placed for an overnight stay before catching the ferry to Ireland in the morning. Saved us from a long, one-day, stressful journey. Friendly, helpful service, and a really good breakfast. A question about the area was answered with authority, and in full. Excellent.

No handrail on staircase, and the bath/shower was not ideal for a portly person.

The location was excellent as we were using Stenna Line to go to Belfast. The room was large with an ensuite. The price was excellent, which included, choice of cereal, yoghurts and a fully cooked breakfast with plenty of toast. The service was friendly.

The room was missing a couple of comfy chairs as the only place to watch TV was sitting on the bed. The back yard could have cleared of rubbish.
