The Balmoral Hotel1 Princes Street, New Town, EH2 2EQ Edinburgh (Show map) Wonderful, Score from 151 reviews“Stayed there before in 2007/8 for New Year with parents. We all loved it and always intended to return. We did - and were not disappointed. I like its tradition and olde worlde style. Location is second to none. Restaurants are great and service from staff was excellent. Number One gave my Mum a wonderful birthday dinner.”

Friendliness of the staff, Appearance of the main entrance was excellent.Checking in was delayed, never found out the problem but the upgrade made up for it. I give service 9 out of 10. Problems at breakfast such as missing cutlery. Exhorbitant charges for 4 cups of coffee and two scones; £31-00. Come on that is profiteering?

The attentiveness of staff to my needs was relaxing to me. I never had to wonder or wander! Balmoral had an evacuation fire alarm go off my first afternoon. Staff arranged for a comfortable sitting spot, upon evacuation, since I had clumped down four flights of stairs with my cane. The best part was a letter of apolgy, later, from the manager for this fire alam. Balmoral had a routine scheduled alarm for 11:00am the next day and that was indicated, also by letter slipped under the door. I made it a point to have my plans for the day start before that. So appreciated the constant "heads up"! Three years ago in nyc at the Times Sq Hilton my husband and I had a fire alarm evacuation, and we walked down 104 flights to the city sidewalk. Management Never gave an explanation, never an apology, and showed no concern shown for our exertion. Balmoral is truly caring and gracious. Not equipped with Tea/Coffee maker, but they will provide one upon request.

The staff were extremely friendly and happy to provide suggestions on what to see and where to dine, etc. unlike the hotels in London. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious, and the location was ideal. It couldnt have been better. We hope to come back for a visit not just to Edinburgh, but to the Balmoral. Unfortunately, there was so much to see in Edinburgh, we didnt get a chance to enjoy The Balmoral to its fullest. Nothing, everything was perfect!

Room was expensive. Outlook from room was poor, at the back of the building overlooking a courtyard. No Tea and Coffee making facilities in room. Could have requested room service for this but didn't know if there was a charge. Its nice to make a Tea or Coffee when you want it and not have to wait on room service. The room was not what I expected. Paying £153 room only was too much.

The stay in this hotel was very pleasant and the hotel was very very luxurious. The bars were both very nice and the facilities and staff of the highest standard. A few minor issues with the tv in room not working and having to pay for the internet. And finally the building work outside going on was very noisy and I would of expected to be made aware of this prior to arrival.

The staff were great and we upgraded to a beautiful room with castle view and old town view with a sitting room where we were able to have a small cocktail function for some friends who were also staying at the hotel. The facilities were beautiful and staff very accomodating.

hotel location very good, staff ok, room service ok. room with heat turned up were 20 degrees, 20 degrees were in the bathroom and hot water have also turned up 20 degrees, was an indescribable cold, the internet must be paid given that a room costs £ 400 per night doors and windows are not soundproofed is an infernal noise can not sleep at night, you hear any noise in the corridor, not recommend, I have never stayed in 5 star hotel so bad

The staff were excellent at the hotel and could not do enough for you. The room service was great too. Location of the hotel is fantastic. We Paid almost £300.00 for room and breakfast for one night and although the room was nice it was not £300.00 nice. We have stayed in far nicer/classier hotels with rooms/suites that are far grander for that sort of money all over the country and we have found this hotel to be very overpriced. Will not be staying again..

Excellent staff, friendly and very helpful and professional. Superb restaurant at No 1 never disappoints. Lovely rooms and the palm court is perfect for cocktails or just a coffee. Always feel pampered and valued whenever we stay. Will be back. Valet parking very expensive. Supplements for kippers on breakfast menu!?

Extremely comfortable; excellent service; prime location in Edinburgh. Not a budget break, but in my view simply the best hotel in Edinburgh. If you are thinking of staying here, I would not hesitate to recomment it. A five star hotel with a five star price attached.

The efficiency and professionalism of all the staff. The extra services like turn down and water in the bedroom.I Was disappointed though that I had to pay for Internet connection, also the choice of tv channels was poor. Cost of drinks was far too expensive. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, towels were fab quality.
