Excellent location – rated 9.8/10! (score from 343 reviews)
Rated by guests after their stay at The Balmoral Hotel.
The Balmoral first opened its doors in 1902 as the North British Station Hotel. Taking its place on the Edinburgh skyline in the heart of the city, the hotel linked the Scottish architecture of the Old Town with the classical architecture of the New Town. The Balmoral – meaning ‘majestic dwelling’ in Gaelic, was purchased by Sir Rocco Forte in 1997 as the first in his new collection of luxury five star hotels.

Made great by friendly staff, nothing was too much and they were so helpful and friendly. We ate at number one downstairs, it was the perfect restaurant for a perfect hotel. Location is excellent, facilities are brilliant.
Very well kept, spacious room, beautiful view, impressive public spaces, great food
Perfect location, staff is very attentive, rooms are comfortable, food is fresh and tasty, luxurious treatment of guests combined with unpretentious child-friendly environment-ideal hotel worthy of Edinburgh city
The staff were all very attentive and obliging with our queries.
Breakfast via room service was not as good as the other meals we had delivered.
Size of room was excellent for Europe. Convenient to train station with beautiful views and soundproofed windows. Service was premium. On-site restuarant is stellar.
Really needs tea and coffee in rooms
Lovely friendly staff on arrival and beautiful meal
The number one restaurant very professional staff and very good at the job. Bar staff very friendly especially the managers behind both bars.
Breakfast not included in the price and far too expensive at £25 per person for a cooked breakfast.
Great location and amazing luxury hotel. Staff second to none.
The receptionist was very good. bartenders in the Scotch Bar knowledgable and helpful overall stay at hotel perfect including afternoon tea
Beautiful rooms and views. Wonderful staff. They arranged an entire trip for us up the Highlands with excellent accommodations and food. Arranged the rental car. You can walk to all the sights from this hotel.
Car parking taxis in bay outside hotel
Whisky bar Staff friendliness General ambience Breakfast fantastic
Nothing really except that it is very expensive.
The service is exceptional and the restaurant is first class.
I wish UK hotels would provide family rooms for families travelling with older children ie two king beds in a room
Tasteful, neutral decor
location and number one restaurant
The helpfulness of the staff and their afternoon tea which is better than the Ritz at a fraction of the cost.
everything !! upgraded to balmoral suite due to birthday,so overall great experience
No ironing board had to phone for one, no tea and coffee facilities had to phone for them. £300 a night superior room SHOCKING. Maybe they are hoping for laundry services to be employed or room service for coffee. Stay in hotels all the time never in such a upper end hotel have I experienced this. It annoyed me a lot
The staff were amazing the ambience perfection, location location location.........couldn't beat that one
The room didn't have facilities to make a drink, no kettle etc. Also no iron or ironing board. There was a well stocked mini bar and room service available but I class a kettle with tea/coffee making facilities a very basic necessity.
Location was totally central, everything on it's doorstep. Room was large and airy, bathroom luxurious.
I did not feel comfortable with the room maid addressing me as lady ...,, polite as she was .... madam is what's called for . The bath in my room was deep and luxurious , however difficult to climb into unless you're fit and agile I should imagine .
Edinburgh is a fabulous destination . To get off the train and be in a 5 star hotel within 5 minutes ..... Delightful . Staff very welcoming and nothing too much trouble all needs met in the most charming manner . Breakfast first - class .
The doorman was very nice, he walked me to the train station n even waited for the train to arrive. Thank you very much.
Come on guys, at these prices and in todays day and age, free wi-fi, rather than the crummy (massively overpriced and tiresome) wired ethernet in your room, would really be the icing ont he cake.
Pretty much everything Service Location Comfort Cosiness Tradition Luxury Breakfast
Fantastic Breakfast, Great WIFI connection, views over the old town from room were incredible, swimming pool and spa facilities were world class, food served from the kitchen and restaurant was incredible, great service from all the staff we met, the most delightful selection of whisky in the bar and very knowledgeable barmen to ensure you get what you want. Right in the middle of the city so you can walk to everything!
No haggis for breakfast even though it was listed on the menu. Would have liked tea and coffee in rooms though room service offered us complimentary tea and coffee which was lovely
Breakfast was delicious as was dinner in Hadrians the night before
